Hi! Life story of young, 23-year-old (gay), disassociated, non-baptized publisher
by HillCountry inhello, this is my first post and the first time i have told my entire story, albeit abridged, to anyone.
it will be a long story, sorry.. my grandparents were brought up with different religious backgrounds but converted to bible students around the depression era.
later, my grandfather met my grandmother through the congregation and got married until his death, having a marriage that lasted over four decades.

Sbj-Wow, and welcome. What an interesting person you are. How I wish that would've had your bravery and courage as a young woman. I too, think I was born as an apostate...so much never made sense to me. Your husband sound amazing and it is wonderful that you are so happy!

good old apocalyptic science fiction
by Hortensia inhave you ever read "no blade of grass," "on the beach" or "the satan-bug?
" i have a feeling it wouldn't hurt to reread those old novels.. folks around here argue about gmo foods, for instance, without realizing that one of the main problems with gmo is lack of diversity, dangerous if a disease comes along that kills the main crops of the world.. and people seem to have forgotten that humans could indeed destroy themselves completely, if someone starts a nuclear war.
they always seem to think there could be survivors of an all-out nuclear war.

As a small child, I watched 'Omega Man', it was very scary for a little kid. An epidemic changes all human into diseased beings who can only go out at night, only the main character, played by Charleton Heston, isn't infected. The beings all try to find and kill him at night. During the day, he scavenges for things to live. The movie was remade in 2007 and starred Will Smith, it was titled 'I Am Legend'. It was creepy too.

How did you fare in High School as a JW?
by PaintedToeNail infor me it was rather painful.
it was like pressing your nose against the candy store window, knowing that you can look, but you cannot partake.

So, most of us had an unhappy experience and wouldn't want to go through High School again as a JW. Lisarose had a very happy ending, even if it took a while!

I do believe the Haitians rioted after being devasted by their horrible earthquake. The food relief arrived and the men were assaulting the women and children and stealing all the food. The aid workers had to ration the food to women only. The disgusting men didn't care about anyone but themselves. They have also sexual assaulted many of the poor women living in shelters, raping them and impregnating them. These sad women are now forced to have a constant reminder of rape and additional mouths to feed.

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves
by PaintedToeNail inbeing an adult, i choose not to attend the meetings.
i would prefer my children not attend meetings, however being married to a diehard jw, this is difficult to accomplish.
the kids do not want to attend, as the meetings are boring, as they have often said.

My children are well aware of how things are here. They have been told why I will no longer go to the meetings. Their father wanted to gloss it over that I was somehow depressed and would eventually return to the KH. I refused and told them exactly what the real reasons were. We discuss openly the crazy teachings and how things do not make sense. I take their side every time. I have stepped up to the plate and run interference regularly. The fact remains that he is their father. He has the legal right to drag them to the meetings. To seperate from their father and disrupt their home would be worse for them, as they are well loved and cared for by both their parents. Their father has never know how to relate to them, which makes things easier for me.
There have been people who have tried to pull the 'God is Watching You' crap and I have emphatically told them that is a crock of crap, god doesn't care if they chew their fingernails or suck their thumb (these were real threat about god given to them), especially since those saying this crap are known to be blatantly rude to people, sue people or so forth. The question is posed to my kids, 'which is worse, being nasty to someone who wishes you Merry Xmas, or sucking your thumb?' The kids get it.

00Dad-He did not spank "M". "M" chose to go to the meeting instead of being spanked. "M" got to see that coerceion is the only method Dad can use to make the go to the meetings. He came out in a bad light.
In the country and state I live in, it is NOT illegal to spank your kids. There would be no legal leg to stand on. The elders would applaud his behavior as the society encourages little children to be disciplined, with corporal punishment, if needed, in their very KH's.
My kids and I do a lot of critical and logical thinking skills work. I have bought supplimental books on this subject and we use them regularly, and they are blossoming in this regard.

Being an adult, I choose not to attend the meetings. I would prefer my children not attend meetings, however being married to a diehard JW, this is difficult to accomplish. The kids do NOT want to attend, as the meetings are boring, as they have often said. I of course agree with them, the meetings are indeed boring. Last night, their father made them listen to him read them the Watchtower study for today, I had gone to bed really early and didn't realise this was happening. Getting up after having some nightmares, I walked down the hall to my middle child's room, this child shall be refered to as "M". "M" told me about the Watchtower reading and that it was unintelligable to him/her. He/she told me that he/she didn't want to go to the meeting either, and that he/she would rather have a spanking than go. I expressed my unhappiness that he/she would be forced to attend by the father.
Whilst up in the middle of the night, I read blondies overview of today's Watchtower Study, and how we are 37 years into the 1000 year reign, according to WT publications. This info was filed away in the old brain.
This am, my youngest child, "Y", came to me to tell me he/she was feeling sick. This child had just come out of the shower and was dripping wet, it is cold outside here too, so I decided to tell hubby that "Y" is sick and not going to the meeting. "Y" does have head congestion right now too, so this wasn't a lie on my part. Hubby proceeded to order "Y" into bed and demand that he/she stay there, as he/she is sick. "Y" started crying and howling.
"M" decided to try and hide from his/her father so he/she wouldn't have to go to the meeting either. Father hunted all over for "M", and finally directly asked me where "M" was. Not wanting to lie outright, I did tell him, but offered what he/she told me the night before, that "M" would rather have a spanking than go to the meeting. Father removed "M" from the hiding place and went to spank "M" in lieu of meeting attendance. "M" changed his/her mind and decided to go to the meeting instead of the spanking.
Father disappeared for a few minutes, my oldest child, "O" here, was sitting in the livingroom with "M" and myself. "M" commented again that he/she didn't want to go the meeting and be forced to sit through yet another Watchtower study. I commented that the thousand year reign was already 37 years into it's time period, and therefore, only 963 years of it were left, according to Watchtower literature. "M" said, 'why doesn't the end come?', they have been saying it for thousands of years that it was going to come.' Father came into the room, so nothing more could be said.
He rounded up "O" and "M" and went to leave. "O" commented to me that Dad had ordered "Y" to stay in bed. I told "O" that the next time Dad is sick, I shall tell him he has to stay in bed all day.
"Y" continued to cry. They left. As soon as I saw the car drive down the road, I told "Y" he/she could get out of bed and do whatever they wanted.
The good thing out of all this nastiness is: Dad is being forced to play the bad cop and reinforces that meetings are a drudge. The kids won't forget they were really forced to go.
I wait now for them to come home. "M" will tell me how awful the meeting was, and I will truthfully agree. "M" feels free to tell me how he/she feels about things and won't say these things to dad.

70 JWs in horrific crash on way to a Convention
by Nambo inentire family, 20 others die in fatal accidenttragedy struck weekend in akwa ibom state as a man, his wife and all their children, as well as more than 20 others, all members of the jehovahs witness church, perished in a fatal road accident which occurred, friday, along the utu etim ekpo road in etim ekpo local government area of the state.. forty other members of the church sustained varying degrees of injuries following in the crash which occurred on their way to the jehovahs witness annual convention ground in ikot ekpene local government area of the state.. thisdays gathered that more than 70 members of the church had hired a lorry to convey them from ukanafun local government area to ikot ekpene for the annual district convention which began on friday and billed to end today (sunday) but the journey ended half way with many members of the church dying on the road in the accident.. eyewitnesses alleged that the driver of the lorry conveying the church members to the venue of the convention lost control of the vehicle when he got to utu etim ekpo, the junction opposite the local government secretariat, and hit the stone used to construct the roundabout, thus resulting in the lorry somersaulting, leaving many of its passengers and others wounded.. the corpses and those injured in the accident were said to have been taken to neighbouring hospitals and mortuaries.. one of the eyewitnesses, mr. friday john, said the people who died may have been more than what was seen because a whole family including parents and their children were all trapped in the accident.. we were all here discussing when suddenly the lorry appeared and was looking like the driver had lost control of it.
then the lorry drove straight and hit the stone and somersaulted into the gutter.. many people died, more than 18. in fact, we couldnt count the number because there were many corpses, including husband, wife and children and they were all taken to the mortuary in various hospitals near etim ekpo here, john explained.. in another narration, a secondary school teacher in eka uruk eshiet etim ekpo, mr. ndipmo nkanta, said the lorry boarded by the deceased and the injured passengers was not meant for passengers but goods only.. he blamed the accident on poverty , arguing that if there was a better alternative, such casualties wouldnt have been recorded, especially as they were going to worship god.. the public relations officer of the federal road safety corps, frsc, in the state, mr. godsgift uwen, blamed the incident on over-speeding and overloading by the driver of the lorry.. he said the lorry was not supposed to carry any passenger as it was a meant for goods only but the driver stubbornly used it as a passengers vehicle, which led to the sad incident.. he advised against rush and drunken driving, especially in the yuletide, noting that these are some of the major causes of accidents on the roads..

Very tragic. Why didn't the WTBTS advise people to not overcrowd vehicles and use only transportation that was approved for passenger use? They will most likely use this story for their own ends. How often did we see pictures in publications of African brothers and sisters loading down rickety canoes and travel crocodile infested waters to get to a convention? The victims will be exploited by the WTBTS as an example for all the r & f to emulate.
So sad.
