Fort Mac sounds like it must be in the energy business. Williston, ND is headed in the same expensive direction. I would like to lunch Sizemik, Outlaw, Blondie and Cadellin. Or just about anyone else here.

the last few years "warren buffet.
" has donated his time to the highest bidder for charity.
the ebay auction usually goes for $100,000 to spend lunch-time and pick his brain on his view.

had to meet my parents not too long ago for some family business and while working out the time for that sunday, they said they had the meeting and then following the meeting they had "hospitality" for an hour or so.. now i've been out for going on 20 years and somewhat out of the loop.
needless to say i've never heard of that.
i've been to other churches where they have the sanctuary and then the fellowship hall where the members go and eat after the service.
As a child, we were the recipients of the visiting speaker arrangement, and made the dearest friends one can imagine with one family (the parents have died, some of the kids left the org). As an adult, we have been the givers of hospitality, as it is now called. We never had an obnoxious family or speaker, nor ever had anyone take unfair advantage of the situation. It has always been one of my favorite aspects of being a JW.

i believe today's witnesses lack zeal, resolve, "love" of the "truth"......just to name a few things.. years ago, witnesses were excited to knock on doors and tell people they were gonna die if they didn't accept paradise.. now, when you see jws in service, they all look zombied out.. it's a slowly dying religion that will last probably forever like an ancient rotted out tree..
I remember in the early 1970's, 3 brothers played Satan and 2 of his demons at the Thursday night meeting. It was really funny. This was in Buena Park California. The rank and file do not seem to be nearly as close to each other now as they were several decades ago. We used to rent cabins in the mountains and have casual Watchtower Study in the biggest cabin. The newest person to the group was placed in a chair behind the door. At the very last paragraph, a sister or brother would walk in with a shaving cream pie and stuff it in the face of the person sitting behind the door. All pandemonium would break out with an all out shaving cream fight.
The true closeness and love in one felt in the congregations is gone. It was a wonderful feeling as a little kid, knowing all these brothers and sisters really liked you and invited you over to do fun things. We had many parties on the beach and lots of kiddie parties complete with clown and pinatas, games and things.
It was a fun time.

from the latest awake.
handwritten letter or card.
advantage: warm and personal.. disadvantage: takes time to write and days.
The tactile satisfaction of holding, feeling, and unique odor of paper is missing in an email. It is more fun to get a letter or card that you can hold, pin on your wall, or place on your nightstand. It is also great to go thru them years later, finding them kept safely in a box, saying that same things tactilely and be the written word.

without going into details, i'm doing some work on the recent feb 15th watchtower article, namely the experience that appears to excuse a husband beating his wife who is not sufficiently showing christian qualities, etc.. i am putting together a statement on the subject, and it occurred to me that the scenario of a violent husband beating his wife, then studying and becoming a witness is not entirely new in itself to the publications.
this alone is troubling, because there is repeated suggestion that staying with a violent husband is necessary in order to "win him over".
(1 peter 3:1).
Oh yes, on here it looks like the end, justified the means NOT!

i am looking for confirmation on the following:.
jws are now being individually assigned to smaller territories, and they are told to consistently work that same territory over & over again.
the reason is that the watchtower wants the jws to build relationships with the people in that area.
Slightly off topic, but not to far-I did a convicted pedophile check for my local area. Lo and behold, one small village had a load of them. Why? The rents their are extremely cheap and the rest of the village looks like the locals inbreed. I told the MS handling the territories, he was going to bring it up to the elders, as beautiful, young sisters were working that village. So many homes converted into apt.s that the girls would be invisible from the front of the houses as they called on the apt. out back. There weren't too many young boys in the cong., but that was a worry still. That Territory still isn't marked as being pedophile haven. A well meaning sister at the hall recently invited me and mine to work that territory with her, but I kindly declined. I don't do that stuff anymore

(2 peter 3:1-13) ... niv....."in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.they will say, where is this coming he promised?
ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.
waaaaay back when these words were written an embarassing awareness of delay was in the air among christians.. shortly after jesus was executed the story was circulated that he arose from the dead and was witnessed by a great many people.. but, jesus (it was said) went up to his father in heaven and would soon return.. time passed.. more time passed.. ....and still more time passed without jesus coming back.. the idea that deliverance was "near" began to make believers squirm with discomfort.. instead of standing around waiting, enduring persecution and praying constantly for reward....a new task emerged for christians to take.
@leavingwt-when and from where, did you get info about Jesus being a false prophet. I would love to see the research too! Sorry is anything is coming out oddly, I took an ambien and strating to fade.

Strange that you mention praying for everyone. When the devastating earthquake, tsunami, and radiation hit Japan earlier this year, I told my kids it was appropriate to pray for all those in that country suffering from the devastation. They were surprised, yet happy, to know that it was okay to pray for people not JW's, and they proceeded to do so.

so my wife and i survived leaving the jw faith together over the course of the last 4 years.
it was a wild ride for our relationship, but thankfully we are stronger than ever.
so looking back, here is my observation about the "threefold cord", at least the jw version of it.. i believe the idea of the threefold cord actually weakens a marriage, keeping it less mature.
I think the thought of a three fold cord being a strengthener in marriage was probably to prevent people from linking up with someone from a totally different religion. Think of the stress to be endured at the time the bible was written, if one worshipped Zeus and the other worshipped Jehovah. They weren't terribly compatible and could cause a lot of problems.
The same is true now, the closer a couple is in their fundamental backgrounds and goals, the more compatible they tend to be.
An excellent example is those of us who are no longer buying into the WTBTS dogma, and who have spouses who are still active. It causes tremendous stress.
That people feel trapped in a miserable marriage while active in the Org. is very true. I was married to a total toad years ago, and felt I couldn't get rid of him, because Jehovah wouldn't approve, plus I wouldn't be able to remarry. He finally ended up getting VD and I didn't. I was so happy! Finally I could get rid of the toad and keep my family and friends and not have to worry about getting DF'd for divorcing him.
The thought of being married to an elder is horrifying to me. The wives are often told 'don't be jealous of Jehovah', which I don't think they are, they are just sick of everyone in the cong. coming before them.

i had this neighbor growing up, his name was butch.
he and his wife lived down the dirt street i grew up on even before i was born.
they were wordly, but they were also my neighbors so i was allowed to have limited association with them.
You should try to find him, he sounds like he was really nice and was a good friend to you. He'd probably love to have you contact him.
