"Jehovah's organization provides the best education..."
by Gothicus indoesn't it just irritate you to the highest degree when someone makes a remark as stupid as this?
since when did "jehovah's education" ever taught you anything significant other than to be a tool and a slave for the wtb$?.

To think we all wasted time reading all those articles.
The articles about animals or the enviroment were the worst, they always seemed to say something like 'there are only 17 rhinos left, but even if they should become extinct, due to mans' inability to watch even his own step, Jehovah knows what is going on. In his own due time, he will bring about a new earth, soon.'

I think we are being shunned
by hoser init seems like lately we have been missing out on a lot of invites to congregation gatherings and our field service group has gatherings but we never seem to get invited.
btw this is not a bad thing.

Sounds like that could be the case. Unless there is a lot of nepotism in your congregation. We always ended up at congregations where one half of the congregation was related somehow to the other half. We were always the odd man out family, no one was related to us at all.
You are right, it's not a bad thing, it is to be expected in a successful fade.

3rdgen-Funny! You did do well. But, what a nosy, rude old bat. Did she think you suddenly grew horns and a tail and started carrying a pitchfork or something?

FOURTEEN DEAD IN DENVER SHOOTING !
by Phizzy inmore than one gunman seems to be involved in this terrible act.
families were attending mid-night showings of the dark knight movie.. the media should not give publicity tothe names of the perpetrators, they often crave the fame.
give them that fame and others will crave it too.. my thoughts are with the families of all that are affected, a horrific and pointless act that will bring so much pain and sorrow.. edited to say, seems as though it was a lone gunman..

I do not like handguns or any type of assault rifle...that being said, Americans have historically been in love with their weapons, religion and freedom of thought. When legislation was passed to outlaw the sale and drinking of alcohol in the USA in the early part of the 20th century, it drove the problem underground and created a perfect foothold for the mob or mafia.
The laws against illegal drugs in the USA has created a perfect storm in Mexico, upsetting their their whole country and resulting in the murders of thousands and mayhem to the local populace. Has it done anything to combat illegal drug usage in the US? No, not really. Meth labs are being set up in peoples cars, homes and the like. All the legislation in the world won't stop the problem.
If gun ownership were outlawed in the US, it would result in outright gang wars over the importation of illegal weapons, we cannot police our own borders now, keeping out illegal immigrants and illegal drugs.
However, if one could hold the gun manufacturers liable financially for the carnage their product reeks, and virtually everyone who was a victim of gun violence or their family members, sued them, then the manufacturers would do something about their products. What if a gun only fired if the person who bought the gun used it? If they had some type of fingerprint ID built into the gun itself to prevent it being used by someone else?...
It would also might be a good idea to make all teenagers work at an emergency room trauma center, to see first hand, what blood and guts look like, and to see pain first hand. It would be sobering.

by jwfacts ini have a new article at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/birthdays.php outlining why the watchtower stance against birthdays is wrong.
there have been a number of threads on jwn discussing this, and the article collates and summarises the points raised in these threads.

I have been wanting to figure out a way to celebrate my kids birthdays without causing catastrophy to my home life. YOU have given me the idea of how to do just that, thanks jwfacts! Your comment about the anniversaries being celebrated hit the mark!
I will celebrate my child's upcoming birthday the day before, by calling it an anniversary of the last day of being 4. My hubby cannot get angry over this, as we have often been invited to the equivalent of the American holiday 'Thansgiving' at an elder's home, complete with turkey and stuffing. This turkey is justified as being 'on sale' at a really cheap price. This gathering has often had other elders and MS's their for this 'non'-celebration. (This family is not the only one that does this, there are many who do this practice, but make sure you know they 'aren't' celebrating Thanksgiving). So, it will be just a matter of semantics when my kids tell my spouse about the celebration.
Am I a chicken by not calling this a birthday celebration? Of course I am, but then I have to live here, with this spouse...and I do want my child to feel special, because to me, my kids are.

k99-Welcome! You are not alonein your struggle. There are some fine people in the organization, who have probably been good, lifelong friends. It has been a complete lifestyle for you, and you have no idea how to live any other way. Many of us here have been in very similiar positions as yours. It is not easy...yet the peace of mind I get, knowing that I'm not constantly having to prove myself over and over and over and over again to Jehovah is very much a relief.
This year, I am going to celebrate my child's birthday. I cannot tell my hubby that, as he has become a diehard JW since I have faded. Instead, I shall celebrate what I am going to call 'the anniversary of the last day you are 4'. Basically the same thing as a birthday, yet he cannot say anything, as we have often been invited over for the American holiday of 'Thanksgiving', without it being called that, by an elder's family. Semantics. There are ways around things.
Best wishes with your newly found mental freedom.

How about the one were two sister went on a cruise. One got sexually involved with a man that was on the cruise also. At the end of the trip, he handed her a box, gift wrapped. When she opened it, there was a small coffin charm in it, along with a note that read: You are dead, I have AIDS.
My mom told me that one, which was told to her by a sister who claimed to be anointed. Mom was all big eyed and gaga, it was as if she were telling scary stories on at a childhood sleepover. I said to her "You do realize that is an urban legend, don't you?"

It is extraordinarely disturbing to see the blatent disregard for the safety of the congregation that was exhibited by these elders, congregations, and the WTBTS. So much for protection from danger and the evil one(s) by Jehovah and his strong tower.
Thank you Barbara for your tireless work in this matter, you are an angel!

Are you TRAPPED by your believing mate into a hellish life of "pretend"?
by Terry inthe scene is familiar.. a jehovah's witness family with one member who has awakened from the lie.. the split comes down to an interesting wrong terminology:.
unbelieving mate vs believing mate.. .
the context of the entire family is as a jehovah's witness family.. damage has already been done.

Good for you Terry! My hubby agrees with me on virtually every topic brought up regarding WT teachings, or he doesn't know the anwer, but, he keeps clinging to it. He is very much an approval hound and desperately wants people to like him, and they do, for the most part. He wants to believe whatever they say. He is a 3rd generation born-in and never learned to think for himself, he has always needed someone to tell him what to do.
I once told my kids, when we were on a plane, waiting for take-off, to look around for the exits and really pay attention to how the flight attendants were explaining how to operate the doors in an emergency and NOT wait for their father to help them, jump over him to get out, as he would just sit there waiting for someone to tell him it was time to exit. I told him everyone who was in charge could be dead, and they needed to think for themselves. My hubby just glared at me, but he knew it was the truth.
