we know that the jw belief is as follows: "he who has died has been acquitted of his sin".
this is often used to imply that almost all who die prior to the great tribulation or armageddon will receive a resurrection of life or judgement (ok we know sodom dudes, judas and the flood victims wont get one according to jw theology).

We know that the JW belief is as follows: "He who has died has been acquitted of his sin". This is often used to imply that almost all who die PRIOR to the Great Tribulation or Armageddon will receive a resurrection of life or judgement (OK we know Sodom dudes, Judas and the flood victims wont get one according to JW theology). Hopefully I have this correct.
We also know that when Armageddon comes supposedly only Jehovah's Witnesses will make it through - per their own teaching; otherwise why become a Jehovah's Witness?
So let's say the JWs are correct in their teaching. And let's say that Armageddon was due to happen today (the day after the NY terrorist attack). Then logically, according to the JW teaching those who were killed in the NY attack "have been acquitted from their sin" and are elligible for resurrection now. If some managed to survive and were not Jehovah's Witnesses they would have been killed at Armageddon today.
Surely, the Witnesses should be honest and go on field service and tell everyone how GOOD it was that those who died will not be destroyed by our loving creator at Armageddon because they died yesterday. They should also say how the survivors need to become JWs or our loving creator will destroy them too.
Am I off track in my understanding of their teaching?

Thanks guys. It is true the only things we can be sure of are Death and Taxes (dunno which is worse)... But it must be the pessimistic side of me which enables me to say: "we are all dying....every day that passes brings me closer to the date of my death". I hate that thought.
Something happened earlier this morning which triggered me to think about "coping mechanisms". As humans it appears as if we all need "coping mechanisms" (CMs). For instance drugs or religion (ahh see I did learn that drugs and spiritism are related when we studied the links due to them using the Greek word Pharmacia) are common CMs for people, as are alcohol and sex...and so on and so on. Why do we as humans need CMs? What is it about life that we need to have to "cope" with it?
Some have stated that religion is the strongest CM available to humans (eg. Religion is the opium of the people). Is it true that we as humans need to hold out some "unknown" or that by having a CM shrouded in mystery we are able to cope better than if it wasn't mysterious? Does everybody need "magic in their life" so as to cope? Why do some people need to read a "thought for the day" or need some external stimuli to get them through or to set the direction for them? As a JW I struggled to do the Daily Text. Even when I did it, it left me as soon as I was through. Others seemed to dwell on it most of the day - I must have had a spiritual deficiency. You know what they say "Happy is he who is conscious of his spiritual need (Mat 5:3)" - no wonder I never felt happy!!
Just some more of my pointless ramblings and musings....I can keep them to myself or I can put them out there for the board as I think of them.

It seems as if it is very easy just to throw your hands up in the place where I am now and say "I am clueless and I have no way to turn so why even try anything?". I have sat here wondering for a while about this and I appreciate the insights each of you gave.

I obviously have ambitions and some goals but at this point I feel fatalistic about most things. For example: I want to make lots of cash (don't we all), but there are many dependencies to doing so. So I might and I might not. I will work my ass off to get it but either way I do not have any specific hope. It will be there or it won't.
As far as afterlife - I have no clue. I do not profess any special interpretation of some book and I do not have the privilege of having personal conversations with the Lord.

I have a question concerning the different "paths" which are followed on the way "out" of the dubs. How many paths are there? What are the stages along the way for each? Is it totally different for everyone?
I ask since I am still at a "I have no clue" stage. I have no idea what to believe, where we came from, does God exist or how to even begin reconciling these things in my own mind. As I have posted previously I find myself as an agnostic right now but I do not even know what questions to ask? Knowing which questions to means I have accepted a DIRECTION. How can I accept a direction if I do not know where I am trying to get to? So I guess I am stuck!! How does one find the questions to ask - without getting stuck in a direction?
The only thing I can resolve at this point is that I will try and do what is good for myself and for others. I find myself hyper-crtical of people with a religious-bent or spiritual-inclination. then I think to myself - does that mean I picked a DIRECTION by means of elimination?
It seems as if people either reject religious leanings on their way out or they cling to hybrid notions of God/Jesus and either join religious groups or form a personal form of devotion.
What makes some take one path versus another? Are there other paths?For me right now "I just exist". I have no hope for the future and I have no idea about anything else.

Double Standards - Where is the line drawn?
by msil ini was happy when the yadrif was given the boot - we never needed the spread of hatred and name calling.
it seemed as though everyone felt the same way.. i find it hypocritical that as long as you are "influential in the xjw community" or if you run a big anti-jw website you can call anyone names and you can post any obscene drivel as long as it is a song which you dedicate other posters.. i find it ironic that a "well-respected" poster (and i could give a damn what his past actions or brave deeds are, or what fancy essays he wrote) would call me a biggot in chat for asking simple questions but then he would defend the stuff kent wrote in reference to aguest.
i don't give a damn if it was written by frank zappa or some other crack-smokin' loser - the fact that they are song lyrics is irrelevant.
