aguest thanks. which translation is that? i'm wondering if the NWT is a bit different. that verse seems to be explicitly saying that god does not tempt in the sense that he would not mislead people in a calamitous way....i'm thinking it must be another verse, or maybe NWT states it differently. the verse i'm thinking of (at least from my memory) i seem to recall states more directly, in terms of god and his inability to do evil in any way shape or form.

what's the scripture again that says something about...
by cptkirk ingod cannot be tried with evil?
something like that.
seems like that is a good starting point for some pretty intense logic inconsistencies no?.

you're supposing they even care to even at least ostensibly comport themselves with a level of decorum anymore. they really don't. their new thing is to sweep it under the carpet by saying, "each congregation has it's own personality". it's like that old 80s song 'they call you mr. personality because you're so ugly'.... saying each congregation has it's own personality is just saying the same thing. in this case, you could just say it's the sister's personality, instead of saying she's an uneducated loathsome creature.

why can't we get shows like star trek anymore?
by cptkirk inseems like the original star trek was almost universally enjoyed.
from the kooky music theme 'space.....ahhhhh ahhhh ahhh ahhhhhhhh ahhh', the upbeat message, the deep subject matter...the chemistry of the characters.
you remember being much younger almost felt like not a care in the world?

here's a real deep question for you: do you think society will ever get to a really strong point again, without having trust in each other anymore?
is there a different societal profile which can reach the heights of the past? without even really needing to trust each other anyway? (using some other means of checks and balances...but does that detract from the possibilities intrinsically?)

saw a watchtower in public area today...
by cptkirk inwas weird.
used to look at it as something positive.
this time i actually covered it with other reading material, with the thought that i'd be helping people to stay away from it.

yeah. i have a bit different take on this. i think what you guys do is good and it is important...but for the same reason i never wrote a da letter, i can't really see myself writing anything on their material. maybe i'm wrong. the reason i didn't write a da letter is because when i thought about it, it just seemed ridiculous. like a grown man writing a letter to disassociate himself from the three stooges fan club. i can't even take them seriously enough to do this, and frankly....
when i think back about my days in wt, if someone came at me angrily, it usually strengthened my faith. it's when people laughed at me, is what really made me question things. i'm talking about sincere laughter, not laughter couched in hate. i've posted on this subject before...the more serious you act directly towards them, the more serious they take themselves.
bill maher really i think has the best approach when it comes to this bar none. he basically points out the ludicrous (he gets pissed once in a while, but mostly), and at the same time he remains *somehwhat* humble, in that he listens and says ok let me think about that....he doesn't even necessarily need to obliterate their argument, just via some glib questioning, makes them look absurd.

was weird. used to look at it as something positive. this time i actually covered it with other reading material, with the thought that i'd be helping people to stay away from it. pretty crazy, i wondered to myself why did that feel so good? really hit me...thinking to myself...calling these people a high control group doesn't really even do them justice..just plain scary group of people.
just thinking about some of their doctrine that they got "new light" on. thinking about the people who try to shun and gossip others in the congregation out of existence....on things the damn GB was going to CHANGE the next year anyway. just disgusting.
i'll never forget being in a room with like 5 jw's and them trying to run a brainwash deal on me, telling me the WT says i can't pray for one of my family members because they had "apostate" ideas....they were so zealous telling me that i absolutely could not pray for someone in my family.
if i were to see these same people right now years later, they would probably go into the same routine as if they hadn't missed a beat. karma...

origin of worship?
by cptkirk inwhen you take an honest look at life, it's pretty pathetic.
the fact that it exists at all.
the law of nature is kill or be killed....if you're a fish, you've got predator sharks looking to eat you.

when you take an honest look at life, it's pretty pathetic. the fact that it exists at all. the law of nature is kill or be killed....if you're a fish, you've got predator sharks looking to eat you. if you're a zebra, you got tigers ready to eat you. human beings are only starting to really gain any strength via technology, and even that (in the grand scheme) is still a bit futile.
if you roll back human advancement, and try to put yourself in the shoes of the first intelligent humans...can you imagine what they were thinking once they became conscious? hey look a blood-thirsty t-rex just ate my family and my entire village. oh i fell, i broke my leg and then i starved to death, darn. isn't it only logical to expect that these people's first thoughts probably veered towards worship? they realized everything was dumb (in terms of life, ie. they, the humans, were the smartest show in town, and that wasn't saying much). the stars are blowing up in supernovas, hell a meteor may of just wiped out half a continent...and they say it's a miracle, how can i possibly live among all of this? there must be something greater than i that oversaw my being conceived. so they started to worship....worship started off absolutely ridiculous, then gradually evolved into mostly ridiculous. in terms of what was being worshipped and how it was being worshipped.
maybe god does exist, and he's just an extreme right wing libertarian ...knowing this life is just some sort of bizarre transition.
it's funny i left my television on, i can't even see the screen, but i'm hearing it as a i type, and it's talking about prophecies of disaster. with everything afore mentioned, isn't prophecy about disaster tantamount to prophecy about the sun rising in the east?

Is it just me?
by truthseeker1969 inthey stopped letting people do the bible reading and give a commentary of the reading incase the wrong thing is said.. elders must stick to the scriptures in the watchtower and not go outwith it.. nothing can be kept in writing by the congregation.
bible studies due for baptism are checked for a past history.
the society routinely destroys information on nearly everything.

it's the beginning of the end for them. this sort of critical thinking that they are initiating on eachother will eventually lead them to the truth about the truth. they are forcing themselves to reason, advanced reasoning leads to one conclusion...the bible is a fraud. but guess what? karma is not a fraud. the great karma of these men desperately looking to be seen as important, coming to the final conclusion that they are in fact a group of men following santa claus. willing to die for santa claus...willing to see their families destroyed...for santa claus. very important and educated men indeed. time for them to go back to their janitorial duties. TEN HUT JANITORS OF DOOM!
