the funny thing is, to some people it may sound out there, but it is inevitable. if you look at trends of the last 30 years, they almost always run their full cycle. rarely do you see hot button issues (that have stirred up local random blue collar people) that just dissipate, they almost always continue to build until finally climax. the election of a black president underscores just such anger that started small and then exploded. look at all the stuff that went on with plane hijackings in the 1980's too (plenty of movies on it)...you think the anger that drove those men would just disappear? no it elevated to mass murder. so really, when you see these guys setting up in front of kingdom halls with their little podium and iphone recording them, talking to nothing as members file into the building....you can pretty much bet that the next step will come and eventually climax. then what? armed guards all over bethel? will be hard to "tell the brothers to have faith" when you all are walking around with armed escorts, there's your faith.

Mum feeling depressed but they're the happiest people on earth
by not bitter insaw my mum a couple of hours ago and she was saying how low she was feeling.
basically miserable and doesn't like anyone.

i know that as soon as i use that phrase many people just get the blank deer in the headlights expression on their face, but of all the various psychological phenomena contained within this context, this is without a doubt the largest.
obviously cognitive dissonance and others are mentioned.. it dawned on me earlier, the movie which is cited in the topic, basically the entire premise of this movie is religion using passive aggression to really skull#$%$ people, while holding the line that they are just doing god's will (in a very personal setting here).

It dawned on me earlier, the movie which is cited in the topic, basically the entire premise of this movie is religion using passive aggression to really skull#$%$ people, while holding the line that they are just doing god's will (in a very personal setting here). I saw so much of this in the JW religion that it leads me to believe that there is no way to avoid the inevitable reckoning that is coming. I have no idea what that reckoning will look like, and frankly i don't even want to be a part of it. i just want to live my life and then die like everyone else with a bible in my hand with the assured expectation that i am now going to heaven, or hell, really what does it even matter? in my time studying human chemistry, the most powerful of all human qualities is the engrained power of self sustainment. with that in mind, really wherever you go is a victory, as long as you are going somewhere. the great enemy is blackness more than hell.
maybe the whole point of this movie was just that, to show how religion using god to carry out their own passive aggressive wars (or obviously in some cases purely aggressive wars) will inevitably lead to a war where everyone goes insane and then dies.

I think that you just need to set the premise for your joke a little before delivery. for example, instead of just going right into a sex joke, explain how your interpretations of what was right vs wrong in terms of sexuality impelled you to talk to an elder, and then once you premise the joke as the elder explaining things to you, it should go well. because yea, if you just go right into the joke, most people wont get it because they have no idea what goes on with jws and their ideas on sex (other than disliking gays obviously). someone posted on here recently about a visiting co telling all the elders that oral sex was tantamount to licking the toilet lid lmao....that is just pure comedy, that is a gift in terms of handing you material.

sex is the great untapped comedy resource. i'm not a comedian but if i was, i would do an entire show just on the jws and sex, and about all the stories, and all the various things different elders have told me. the art of comedy is obviously to make someone or some thing look foolish, you can't get more foolish than listening to jw ideas on how sex is supposed to happen, or what is right and wrong etc. one thing that i love is the fact that missionary style sex is about the most wild and obnoxious sexual position anyone could EVER think up...and yet that is the one that they are ok with. i will spare details because i'm sure my posts on this bother some, but comeon just think about it a little bit, think about a spoon style sex position, this is basically a chaste sexual position....missionary is like the opposite of spoon position, yet that is what they think is the acceptable position why? there is just too much material.

well, that speaks to a dynamic that i know that i've commented on before, and i'm sure many other have too. that dynamic being a situation where you have super ambitious people in the org that get promoted to elder (not by god i think we figured that out pretty clearly by now)...and then what happens is, they do stop believing ("in the truth")basically (whether because of the generation thing or being up close and personal with the sausage making).....BUT, unlike the average jw for example, they just have way too much invested into the religion to cut and run, they are basically so invested that they have no choice but to keep going through the motions (if nothing else the embarrassment that would ensue in front of the myriads of people preached to)....(really more like people they beat over the head with their passive aggression and other aberrant sociopathies)...who now would chew them apart for being such enormous hypocrites....i mean the list just goes on and on as to why they would stay invested rather than bail out.
