FIRST AID at the DCs
by tresdecu inthe thread about the old woman who died at the assembly got me thinking about how first aid is run at the conventions.
for many years i worked as an attendant, we were always instructed that, if there is a medical emergency to contact first aid and not to call an ambulance directly from the location.
in the age of cell phones it made much more sense to me to call 911 right away (for serious emergencies) , if it's a stroke or heart attack time is critical.

My experience with convention First Aid is very, very positive. The elder in charge was a fireman, EMT, etc. He was great, and had all his equipment there. Lots of RN's here too, and they were volunteers.
I was having a gall bladder attack, and wasn't sure if it was my heart or what. They rushed me to first aid in a wheel chair (I was about 37) that appeared miraculously. Rick diagnosed me pretty close to the true situation, and called an ambulance. I missed that day, but went the rest of the time. The hospital did a lot of tests, told me it had to come out, and recommended I go home to my own doctor, but of course I couldn't miss the convention. Duh!
Still have my gall bladder...............had been going to Nutri System, and was one of the gall bladder casualties from their old program. As soon as I stopped the food, I recovered.
Anyway, the first aid department in this area is top notch.

"Dickerson ordered them to testify after finding the Jehovah's Witnesses' judicial committee system is not designed to keep information confidential. "
I wonder what they mean by that?...............possibly that information leaks out, like to wives and friends, so they might as well tell the court?
What does "designed to keep information confidential" mean?

So, someone clue me in.
by Blasty inalright, so i'm reading on this site, and i'm not 100% sure what it's about.
it appears to be a bunch of former jw people bashing everything they can get their hands on in relation to jw's.. .
i was brought up as a jw, but when i got older and started to think for myself, i began to realize that i didn't agree with their teachings.

You are so welcome here!
Most of us are like you, still believers, just not in JW's.
Some have gone on to Christian churches, Catholic, etc., some have become Buddhists and some are atheists.
A mixed bag as LockedChaos said.

Do black Americans claim Obama as one of their own?
by digderidoo ini was watching an interview with a black american recently about barrack obama.
interestlingly he said that black americans find it hard to claim him as one of their own.
he said that black people would much prefer to have someone who is from the stereotypical upbringing of a black american to be the presidential candidate.

Whoopi Goldberg said yesterday, on The View, that she objects to the term "African-American", because to her, it implies that they aren't 100% American. She prefers the terms "black" or "colored".
I liked that.
Since Barack's father was African and his mother, American, doesn't that make him a TRUE African-American?

How did you "expand" your Field Service time
by donny ini remember when a brother named donis and i used to go out in field service on the weekends we took advantage of our congregations large territory.
we each had about nine return visits and we would pick one on the southern end of the territory and afterwards drive to one in the northern part and then back again.
along the way we would throw in laundry mat to dump a lot of the magazines that were given to us by other brothers/sisters who needed room in their garage.
-
Mulan
Yeah, return visits on opposite ends of the territory was always the best.
did that, also rounded off the time even if it was way short of an hour...........
when I was pioneering, several of us would meet at 8AM to do business territory. We would drop mags off at a lube shop waiting room, go for coffee for 20 minutes, do another lube shop or two, hit a laundromat, and head to the KH for the meeting for service at 9. Back in the territory about 9:30, but we counted our time straight through. 10:30 was another coffee break, for at least 30 minutes, then return visits all over the territory.
Afternoons were usually Bible studies, and a few evenings too. I had lots of those, and unfortunately converted several. Many of them are out now though.

My heart goes out to you and your child. You are a wonderful mother, and he is lucky to have you.
I would do the same thing you are, and to hell with anyone who doesn't agree.

To Quit or Control it....Drinking that is....Who has succeeded and how?
by oompa inthinking about just giving it up....i always revert back to a nightly habit.....and the occasasinal big escape into the bottle.
but of course you can't live there, and it fixes nothing.. because i think i do have a problem, i went to some aa meetings and found them to be too much like wt.
if alcholism is a true disease, then why is it the only one that needs god (or a higher power to cure (or cope with).
-

I think there is a prescription you can take, that makes you violently ill if you drink. That might be worth a try.
I tend to agree with you about those meetings being like the KH. I don't have a drinking problem, but have been to an Overeater's Anonymous meeting about 30 years ago, and I think they are all similar in format. Once was enough for me.
Having known people who went to AA, I suggest you give it another try. I've heard they do wonderful things. Maybe find a different location.
