  Some confusion about a JW friend's take on holidays.

  my friend is a self-proclaimed jw, actively involved in fs, all the mmetings, assemblies, etc...., but as of yet, not baptized.. she told me a few of years ago that she no longer was going to participate in anything that had to do with christmas, birthdays, etc...... we have had some pretty deep (yet, peaceful) conversations about the blood topic, holidays, and 607bc.

  along with other conversations on other subjects.. this year, sor the first time in a long time, she called to wish me a happy birthday on my birthday.

  she celebrated thanksgiving with her family.

  Blondie nailed it. There are countless "Jehovah's bystanders." Many of them are members of my family. They can't take on the burdens of being a fully committed JW. So they remain unbaptized so they can go either way without consequences. If your friend were baptized, she would lose the freedom to do what she wishes without serious consequences - being shunned, for example.

  Just the other day, my sister told me of an obituary she read which stated that the deceased "was of the Jehovah's Witness faith. She enjoyed playing Bingo." A witness would shudder at reading that. Most of us here would laugh!

  Somewhere past numb~

  as a loyal jw, i was ready for my whole world to come to an earth-shattering halt and for life as i knew it to be gone...at the hand of my loving god.

  i would sit in school in my mental bubble and numb myself to the world around me.

  i grew older and entered the adult world and was aloof in my thoughts that i could not attach myself to any workmates or neighbors and put out my hand in friendship as they could be dead tomorrow and i would have to be ok with that.

  "A MAN WITHOUT A COUNTRY"

  since coming to the realization that the jw religion does not hold all the answers, let alone most, the above statement describes me to a "t".

  i'm separated from my wife, an almost certain divorce is on the horizon, and because of now being "inactive", with the exception of my family, i have seemingly lost what friends i had.. i can't bring myself to fully embrace "worldly" thinking about many things, yet, as long as i am not an "active" member of the collective, i have no chance of making friends.

  in an earlier post, someone asked me the pointed question, "what do you want?

  Bourne, I feel your pain. You are in a transitional stage right now and have some sorting out to do. I remember that same thought about never having been asked what I wanted. Give yourself time; be patient with yourself. It generally takes at least two years to fully adjust. It took me about that much time, and I was not born into a JW family. If the elders' treatment of me had not been so shabby, I might not have woken up even then.

  As for relationships, this is not the time for serious entanglements. You should get to know a variety of people and learn to be comfortable in a variety of situations with different people.

  Joining a club or doing volunteer work are ways of making friends. Do you have any co-workers or neighbors you like enough to become friends with?

  -Turns out I was ALWAYS an "apostate".

  a recent post by jcanon (of all people, lol) jogged my memory and brought back (repressed?

  ) memories from when i was just a kid.

  i remembered that i was constantly thinking - thinking of all that i learned as a jw (and at school/elsewhere), but i was always able to look at it from "outside the box" even as a kid.

  Think of all the time and grief we could have saved ourselves if the holy spirit had moved the elders to perceive our hidden apostasy.

  Oh, well, if experience is the best teacher, we are 'way out front.

  Holiday driving

  why do people drive so crazy around the christmas holiday?

  i think just about all of my family members have been "cut-off" or had a fender bender in the last week or so.

  what happened to being respectful to others?

  Probably a lot of people drink and drive during the holiday season. Lots of parties are going on.

  okay, i have a question.

  it's a really big one, right up there with the huge questions of life such as "why does it rain on a wintery sunday" or "why does chocolate make me sick to my stomach" .... .

  Need a Little Help With This!!!

  i have a older sister that i have shared my feelings with about my doubt that jws are truly god's organization.

  the reason she can promise is because she doesn't go to meetings herself.

  Most JW's cannot really tolerate all of the burdens put upon them. People have different ways of coping. Your sister has found hers. I agree that it makes no sense to me either. But, again, at one time leaving the borg didn't make sense to me. She has to grow and learn at her own pace in her own way. Just be there for her when she needs you and as long as she doesn't harm herself or others, don't worry about how weird she behaves. How can anyone be a JW and not be weird in some way?

  FM has the right idea. The LDS folks won't suspect him of posting on a JW board. Maybe we should post on SDA or LDS boards if we have reasons to remain anonymous.

  Possibly I was outed by info I gave here. But I don't care and have nothing to lose because (1) I've been out for 28 years and (2) none of my immediate family are dubs.

  What makes me think I was outed? I pm'd or e-mailed someone who claimed to have attended a congregation I once attended. I gave this person info that would make my identity obvious. Later, it got back to me that my JW ex-spouse told a friend of my daughter that I was an apostate now.

  I'd rather be an honest, straightforward "apostate" than the crying, depressed, overburdened wreck-living-a-lie that I had become. And I don't care who knows it.
