Congratulations! Welcome to freedom! It's hard at first, but as you let go and start to feel the relief from all of those WT burdens and requirements, you will be happier and happier.
I am very lucky that I came from a non-JW family, and I was effective in converting only one cousin, who was promptly DF'd for homosexuality. I'm sorry about your sister, but most of your family seems to be on your team, so you are lucky, too!

i found out a couple weeks ago i'll be losing my job by the end of the year.
despite having a bs, and almost a masters in a professional field, an outstanding education record, and having project management experience, i've had zero luck in getting a new job.
unfortunately, i don't live in a large metro area, and so opportunities for my line of work (governmental) are limited here.
Don't lose hope, d-p.
I am retired and have a small pension which pays my mortgage and a couple of other bills. However, I have debt because of helping my family out, and am very stressed. I work temp jobs, but there has been little work lately. I am considering selling my home and moving in with my cousin who recently lost her husband.
I hope all of you out there have savings and/or a good support system of friends and family to help you through this.

so for the first time that i am aware of it, in my twenty-six months in this house, a jw came to my door.
i ran to my office to grab the script i'd prepared to recite should a jw ever come by.
it turns out she was engaged in the tract campaign.
Someone knocked on my door and handed me the tract also. She told me there were questions on the front. I told her that some questions could not be answered. She told me that the ones on the tract would be. Then she rushed on, trying to get them all out in one day, I suppose.

witnesses are trained to believe they are right when speaking about the bible and their beliefs, even when reminded that their beliefs have been "adjusted" for "new light".. .
do jw's you know admit to being wrong on any point, whether or not bible related, or are the "always right" even when shown to be wrong?
My ex-elder ex-husband once told me that a Methodist minister "beat him" in an argument about doctrine. I think it was the Calvinist doctrine of "persistence of the saints" (usually referred to by others as "once saved, always saved"). I wish I could remember the way he related the story to me.
However, even though the Methodist minister won the argument using scripture, it never occurred to my ex that, in terms of Christian theology, the non-JW could have been right. It was apparently seen as an interesting discussion, but the guy who out proof-texted the would-be champion proof-texters didn't even get an acknowledgement that his point was well made and that there could be another way to look at it.

i will then collate the names and addresses and assign everyone a person to buy a gift for.
I'm in. This will be my second year. It was fun last year to get to know a little more about a couple of fellow posters.

i've listened to a number of jws speak about the "new world" and it strikes me that many of them plan to carry a lot of materialistic and worldly expectations with them.
for example, i heard one lady complain about the williams' (venus and serena) success as tennis players, that they should be out there preaching and waiting to play tennis in the new world.
another one came from a visiting elder speaking at the local hall.
Your post is right on point to show that JW's do not have a spiritual life. They attend sales meetings in order to qualify to live in a society of shallow, robotic fruit consumers. Reaching for my higher self and exploring spirituality are some of the great benefits of being a "worldly" person.

the reason i did that was because my ex husband is being, abused by his present wife.
she beats him and puts him down at every oppourtunity, she steals his monthly goverment cheques and takes a trip and leaves him to fend for himself and he is suffering from ischemic mini strokes, she leaves him she doesn't feed him and he is so thin and sick.
i know i was married to him for 28 years and its was n't a good marriage but hell he doesn't deserve to be treated like he is a nothing.
Thank you for choosing to do the right thing, and not allowing yourself to be intimidated or given false information by the elders or anyone else.

i was reading another thread about the witnesses so-called "pioneer school," and there occured to me the question as to why these people are called pioneers.
i may be wrong on this [and may someone please correct me if this is indeed the case], but to my knowledge, the word pioneer does not appear in any manuscript of the bible.
in any case, because my curiosity was piqued, i looked up the etymology, the "true root" meaning of the word.
A few years ago, Robert DeNiro (I think that's the right actor) starred in a movie called The Apostle. After seeing that film, I began to wonder about the definition of the title word. I looked up "apostle" in my Funk and Wagnalls (or Webster's, perhaps), and the definition began with, "a pioneer." So I was thinking that "pioneer" might be a presumptuous designation, as the JW's who studied with me said there could be any number of disciples but only the original 12 apostles.
