So for the first time that I am aware of it, in my twenty-six months in this house, a JW came to my door. I ran to my office to grab the script I'd prepared to recite should a JW ever come by. It turns out she was engaged in the tract campaign. She merely said this was some reading material for me. But I caught her by pleasantly saying, "Oh, this is the new tract?"
"Yes, are you familiar with us?"
I didn't end up using any of my script. Simply stated that, yes, I was familiar with them, that I had about thirty family members who were JWs, that I had served an an elder for some time, and that after much research had come to see that the WTB&TS was not what it purported to be. Her reply?
"So have you thought about coming back to the Kingdom Hall?"
"Now why would I do that since I no longer believe what they teach there to be true?"
We actually spoke for a couple of minutes, and she listened to me without a lot of attitude. I ended by suggesting she keep her wits about her and really try to test whatever evidence exists that they represent God's "sole channel of communication," and consider whether it really was right for them to cut people off from members of their family for merely disagreeing with this.
She left respectfully.
