That 21-second video of Hilary Clinton was made when she was sticking up for her husband while the Monica Lewinski scandal was all over the media. I am a great admirer of Hilary in general, but she made a fool of herself, particularly after having asserted that she was not one of those "stand-by-your-man" women "like Tammy Wynette."

In general, I agree that the "right wing" is constantly plotting to discredit and derail any member of the Democratic party, especially one who is elected President. I understand (but have not verified) that Mitch McConnell rallied the troops, so to speak, to do everything possible to ensure that the economy does not improve while Obama is in office.

Not to talk to strangers. She was so right on that one. She did not like me, and I know that my being in the world because of her gave her a lot to feel miserable about. I also have a physical disability, and she was all about looks, very vain. My imperfection was a great embarrassment to her. I was the lucky one. She adored my sister and brother, and they are both train wrecks, whereas I have had a mostly good life since I escaped her grasp.

She thought that I could never be married, so she emphasized education, going to college, to me but not to my sister (who was gorgeous). Nevertheless, I've been married twice, and to men who were much better than my sperm donor. She was not a JW, but I was beginning at age 15. I did get a degree, thanks to my second husband, but it took 20 years.

Sickening Dilemma

i would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.

i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.

the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.

I agree that you should go to the police, with evidence in hand if possible. His fiancee should also know, but there's a good chance she won't believe it, as women are very protective of their men, especially before they know them well.

The neighborhood where he lives and where he will live after marriage should also know. You could mail copies of his photo and a warning to those who live or will live close by so they can be on the lookout for any signs the children might have been abused. The children's teachers and school officials should also be notified.

I would also notify Child Protective Services and try to get a social worker assigned to monitor the situation.

This is a serious matter. Those children will be scarred for life if that psychiatrist is wrong, and he probably is.

about a month ago, i wrote a post about a sister that keeps coming to my apartment giving me watchtowers.

i called her an older sister.

she is in her late 50's.

I have read that 60 is the new 40. I am past 60, and I feel better than I did in my 20's. As Satchel Paige so wisely said, "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you was?"

Once a co-worker asked me, "Are you happy to be here?" My response was, "At my age, I'm happy to be anywhere!"

Necessary family business

that seems almost redundant to me.

isn't all family business important and necessary?

having a meal with your grown, disfellowshipped child seems to me necessary part of having raised a decent, family-values sort of child.

In Corinthians 5:11, it says not to associate with one who calls himself a brother who is sexually immoral, a drunkard, an idolator, an extortionist, etc. Notice that the admonition is stated in terms of behavior and says nothing about not associating with someone who gets on the wrong side of some contemptible bullies masquerading as ministers.

Almost anyone would avoid a person engaging in the behaviors described in that scripture. What it says is sufficient, and there's no need to add to it in order to create family dysfunction and tension.

The first mention I remember about 1975 was in the book entitled "Everlasting Life in Freedom of the Sons of God." I think it was released in 1967. I may have a copy somewhere, but I just moved and don't know where anything is.

A JW got checked in my congo

the announcement was something like "[name] got checked".well if he ain't got df'ed then what does this mean?is it based on the bible?where does this policy come from?how is the rest of the congregation supposed to behave to that person in a situation like this?what happened in the background anyway?is he checked for a period of time or what?any restrictions?.

Little do they realize what an honor it is to be disgraced by those bullies.

If you've read "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," you might remember that the title character got reprimanded for exceeding the unofficial limits on how high a seagull should fly, and daring to go beyond the limiting parameters of what constituted seagull life. It would be great if you could encourage this person to read this book.

it's more accurate, i think.. one of the comments on one of the threads (sorry, i'd give due credit, but can't find it again) mentions someone finally being able to size up jw's as one would any other religion.

indeed, he that is under fear has not been made perfect in love.

It is, indeed, unfortunate that people embrace fear of someone allegedly more powerful instead of taking charge of their own lives. Others have power over us only if we give it to them. Take it back, folks. You should be the captain of your own soul!

It is not necessary to have someone to follow. Forge your own path.

Did we ever fulfill Mathew 24:14?

i know ... many mistakes and a nasty leadership ,but did jehovah's witnesses fulfill even partially matthew 24:14 :"the good news will be preached in all the inhabited earth and then the end will come "are we to expect a final or a completely different fulfilment of this verse ?

I've been out since 1979. I started "publishing" when I was 15 years old after going to a Baptist church and listening to Jack Van Impe give incorrect information against JW's. In my adolescent brain, I thought the JW's must be right if this wealthy, charismatic evangelist had to stretch the truth to put them down.

I waited for t he end to come, as predicted, in 1975. I heard that '75 could be a year or two off. I hung in until 1979, at which time I could not tolerate my life as it was, realized that I had been a better person before becoming a JW, and had a desire to further my education.

I left a note on the kitchen table for my husband, had a friend drive me to the airport, and went to the other end of the country where I had a disfellowshipped cousin. At that time, my cousin and I were the only members of our family who went whole hog JW. Others were hangers-on, but would not commit.

At that time, there was no internet or support network. Life was difficult, but no more difficult than when I was a JW.
