Superman's quote 'bout JW's
by orphanannie inhttp://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=579&e=1&cid=638&u=/nm/20020917/en_nm/health_superman_dc
"there are religious groups -- the jehovah's witness, i believe -- who think it's a sin to have a blood transfusion.
well, what if the president for some reason decided to listen to them, instead of to the catholics, which is the group he really listens to in making his decisions about embryonic stem cell research?

It's that Billy Joel song, "My life" perhaps(?). It contains these lyrics: "I don't want you to worry for me, 'cause I'm all right; I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home. (something, something I forget) this is MY LIFE. Go ahead with your own life; leave me alone."

First Elder to Testify in Abuse Case
by Kenneson insheldon longsworth maintains that he doesn't recall telling vicki boer to confront her abusive father.
yet he told her to tell her father to go to the local elders.
wonder how she was to do that without confronting him?.

What if someone were guilty of a lesser assault on you and you knew this person would beat the crap out of you the next time he/she saw you, but would leave no visible marks? Would you be told to go to that person (the perpetrator), knowing he/she would be likely to beat you, and explain to him that he/she needed to go to the elders? Oh, pleazzzzze!
The WT organization, like all bullies and cowards, sticks up for the person with the most power. Children (and women, to a lesser degree) have no clout, being the "obedient" class, not to mention being physically unable to defend themselves. People in positions of authority are supposed to be there to help those who cannot help themselves. Get a clue, Watchtower bullies! Stop bullying children!

Believe in yourself. Most people who have made it big in life, if asked for their advice, will say, "You have to believe in yourself." I can tell from your posts that you have a lot to offer your fellow beings. Find your gifts and use them.
Best regards,

I recommend pursuing your education and career. If you have time, why not do some volunteer work, a way to find that others need your help, too. I also recommend therapy and self help books. A good start (worked for me anyway!) is Dr. Wayne Dyer's Your Erroneous Zones.
Best wishes. Keep coming back!

Thanks for bringing those discrepancies to our attention.
It is so bizarre to me that sex between consenting adults will precipitate a thorough investigation and untold harassment from the elders to elicit a confession, but adult sex with (i.e., rape of) a CHILD is handled as if the child is the perpetrator!
Some "sins" are also crimes! If sex with an adult is a sin, sex with a child is doubly a sin! Get a clue, GB dip(Farkel's term)s! Sex with a child is also a crime. So, "render Ceasar's things to Caesar" by turning child molestors over to the authorities. It isn't just a good idea; it's the law.
Who is going to "handle" the sin of protecting child molesters, a sin regularly PRACTICED by JW elders? Silentlambs, that's who. Go, Bill & Co.

Word Power - Predudice & Discrimination
by Celtic inthe issue of language with regard to disability is an important one.
look at the following words and ask yourself whether they imply a positive or negative image.
the disabled ..... positive/negative/neither .

Celtic: I am not offended by any of the words you posted with the possible exception of "mental patient" because of the way people use the term. I was a crippled child in the 1950's when "crippled" was a descriptive, not an offensive, term. I spent almost a year of my life in the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. So my hospital mates were crippled as well and didn't seem to mind.
The only difference between me and anyone else is that my deformity is visible. It has hindered me socially and economically. Before that, it was a source of embarrassment and shame to my family. But I wouldn't exchange myself for anyone who is beautiful, physically perfect, or whatever. Maybe the terms "beautiful," "gorgeous" and the like can be offensive as well.

In order to simplify their lives, reduce stress, make more time for field service, and avoid being counseled by the elders because of inappropriate clothing or jewelry, JW's should wear nothing at all.

When I went back to college (in 1977), an elder (who was brought up a JW but joined the US Army and married a "worldly" woman and had six children) said to me, sarcastically: "You can teach English in the New Order." I kept taking classes.

Transitions after leaving the borg..experiences?
by LyinEyes ini am just going to put this out here to see how you all feel about this.......... here goes............... do you think that being a jw , especially raised in it, has taken away your chance of ever trusting yourself ever again in regards to what you believe in?
i mean , you can read books, many by very educated men/women, you can read every bible printed, you can read every self help book, but do you find yourself at times just not caring anymore?
i mean once your trust has been broken, what is the point in reading another man's version of what truth/reality is?

I have been out since 1979. It took at least two years in those pre-internet days for me to acknowledge that it might not be "the truth." I had difficulty with jobs, readjustment, a vicious ex-spouse (an elder) who punished my daughter to get back at me (that mean, hateful *@!~^&), and no reliable support system. But it was worth it all!
I have learned to accept things at face value and have left off "hope" aka fantasy about the unknowable. I attained a college degree at age 37, and my daughter will graduate from college in December with a degree in chemistry. We have wonderful holidays and great conversations. I have friends who love me without my having to tow the line for any dogma.
It gets better. Give it time. I recommend Dr. Wayne Dyer's book, Your Erroneous Zones. I credit this book with getting me on the path to sanity and enjoying life.
Best wishes; hang in there!
