I'M SERIOUS!!!! If you eat cupcakes you will die at the Big "A"
by Gojira_101 ini was just doing dishes not really thinking about anything in particular, and all of a sudden this experience came flooding back and i started crying.. a few years ago i went back to one of the states i lived in to see/visit my friends (before i learned ttatt, i was still a happy borg at this time).. the friends i were staying with had two young girls, one was 3rd grade and the other was preschool.
so one day the father comes home after picking up the older girl (i think she was 7, 8...i'm not sure exactly this was several years ago) and she was all red and looked like she had been crying.
i noticed she had some blue at the corner of her mouth.

JW kids' teachers need to be taught not to leave evidence at the corner of a child's mouth on birthdays and holidays. School counselors need to be notified when kids' parents are JW's, but I don't know what they can do to mitigate a situation like this one.

are we crazier than we used to be?
by Xanthippe inthere seem to be so many tv programmes about horders whose houses are filled with rubbish that they can't throw out, peope with claustrophobia or other phobias, people with depression or anxiety illness.
i am not being accusatory because i've had depression but i'm just wondering what on earth is society doing to us?.
has there always been this level of mental health problems and they are just being given a label now and help is finally being offered?

Simon is right about having more money enabling us to do things we couldn't have in the past. My grandmother had very little, her parents and grandparents even less. They had to make their own clothing, furniture, and to repair what broke instead of going out and buying another one. In the Western world, most people have enough money to buy unnecessary stuff, so they do.
Another difference is that people in the past had to work very hard just to survive. There wasn't the luxury of time to go look for useless stuff. At the end of the day, they were too tired to think of anything but getting some sleep. Work is a great mental health medication. More people should try it.

July 2013 Watchtower "Should You Trust Religion?"
by ilikecheese ini read this article while i was looking at the other magazine you guys were talking about.
they were being really stupid and generalizing about the other religions they were talking about again.
my favorite bit was where someone was saying that they went to a church that passed the offering plate around three times and that they were expected to put money in it each time.

Both of my grandfathers were country preachers. I can assure you from their "lifestyle," they were not getting rich. My paternal grandfather did better financially than my maternal grandfather. My dad's side of the family is more "slick" than my mom's side.
I have been to churches where the collection plate was passed three times. I have also been to churches where it is passed only once, and, in both cases, nobody pays any attention to whether someone else contributes.
I was impressed by the lack of money grubbing when I started attending the KH in the '60's, but as time went on, much to my chagrin, that changed, and they started asking for money for specific things fairly regularly.

CO says GB can't and won't be blood guilty that's why new light is shining
by oppostate inour new co, who's name sounds something like brother prosboscis, said that the governing body cannot and will not be held bloodguilty because they are advancing new light and that their effort to bring forth "truth" proves they love the "truth".. i couldn't help but think of the false "truth" of blood transfusions and how holding on to this teaching truly makes them gulty and accountable, drenched in the blood sacrifice of innocent victims that believed their false "truth", shame on them for calling falsehood a "truth" and for calling good what is bad.. the governing body of jehovah's witnesses is responsible for the loss of lives due to their teaching their followers to refrain from blood transfusions.
thousands have probably died from following this teaching.. ===============.
those governing body zombies don't want or care about your souls what they really want is your flesh and your blood.. can we have someone with good photoshop skills do an artistic representation of the new 2013 gb photo exposing their bloodguilt?.

The JW life is good!
by Julia Orwell infor some people.
i think of the old man who has no family and lives in a nursing home, and the only time he gets out is when he's picked up for the meetings.
he lives solely for that.. or people who love routine and busy-ness, people who need to be led.. george orwell wrote that the party is best able to impose its worldview on those least likely to understand what it is that's being asked of them: orthodoxy is unconsciousness.. i believe a lot of jws swallow the party line and it passes through them unharmed, like a seed pooped out by a bird.

What I liked:
At the beginning, I enjoyed the company of the family who conducted our Bible study. They were genuine, good folks. They gave me a place to go to get some respite from my crazy, wacko, weird family. I thought they seemed sophisticated and well-educated, and they were in comparison to my family. I enjoyed going to assemblies because I had not been able to travel and had never stayed in a hotel or motel before becoming a JW. At first, being a JW actually opened my world and broadened my perspective.
What I did not like:
I am an introvert, so field service was hard on me. I didn't like the witnesses' attitude about the Kennedy assassination, which happened shortly after I started "publishing." I loved President Kennedy and was heartbroken, but a sister at the KH said to me something like, "and look at the way they're taking on over Kennedy. What are they going to do when Armageddon comes?"
I missed my friends, but I still hung out with my best high school friend. Her grandmother was a JW, so there was a connection of sorts. I certainly regret marrying a JW, except for the fact that I have my beautiful daughter as a result.
My daughter has no relationship with her father now. She was never baptized, but he wants nothing to do with her. That's the main thing I hate - the WT's unbelievable ability to destroy natural family affection.

You're handling things very well. I love what Billy the Ex-Bethelite said, too.
Keep us posted.

INTIMIDATION by threat
by Terry inwhat would happen if somebody pointed a gun at you and told you what to do?.
an implied threat would motivate almost every person to do as they were told.. what about in a religious context?
what if a "gun" were pointed at members of a religion?.

brinjen: I read Clan of the Cave Bear some years ago, and it also reminded me of the way the witnesses deal with anyone who is somewhat different or has an intellect, talent or skill that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Baptism of a chid and an elder's response to my objection
by never a jw ini just learned that an 11 year old kid is taking the questions for baptism.
as soon as his father finished tellig me this, i told him that he should make his son wait, but he responded that he couldn't go against jehovah' spirit.
i gave the guy a break because he is the uneducated and naive immigrant who puts his heart, not his mind, into the religion.

never a jw: You, thank God (or whatever you believe in), are there for your children if they ever decide they want to be who-they-really-are and live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives. Your children are the lucky ones. Think of all the kids whose parents are both JW's. I'm very sorry your children have been brainwashed.
