Children love it when they get positive feedback from adults. This makes them vulnerable to JW propaganda. It is pure evil not to wait until a child is educated and sufficiently mature to make their own choices.

The Hubris of the Governing Body
by cofty init's difficult to comprehend how arrogant the members of the governing body must be to sanction much of the content that appears in their literature.
they identify themselves as the 'faithful and discreet slave' - that alone requires an astonishing degree of pride.
but what is even more amazing - arguably to the level of insanity - is the way they then use that phrase to elevate themselves above the rest of the organisation.

I can't cite the particular chapter and verse, but the Bible (which they profess to believe) says that one who is exalting himself will be humbled, and the one humbling himself will be exalted.
It is the epitome of arrogance to claim that you, one of 9 white males and one black male, are the only people on earth who can understand scripture sufficiently to explain it, especially when not having studied ancient history, languages and culture!

What happened to Catholic church bashing.
by Hellothere ini remember back in the 80s almost every awake and watchtower magazine, think all, hade an article about how bad and evil catholic church was.
what happened to all the bashing?
was it because people in catholic countries got offended?
-
Mum
Almost all new cults start out by bashing the Catholic church. Tony Alamo comes immediately to my mind. I'm not sure if he's still alive, but in the '80's, he was causing quite a stir in some quarters. In the old days, a lot of JW converts were formerly Catholic. All religions are look down upon by JW's, but they seemed to have a special hatred for Catholicism.
slimboyfat: I didn't know Franz was Lutheran and went to Catholic school. Thanks
Vidiot: You're probably right.

Poor metabolic health increases your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
by was a new boy init’s all a big fat lie.
more precisely a big low-fat, high-carbohydrate lie.. 'it took dr. paul marik 12 weeks to prove that conventional wisdom about dieting is a lie, and that was just to himself.
he lost 35 pounds, and cured himself of type 2 diabetes.

Have you heard of Dr. Greger's daily dozen? He arrived at this plan by studying diets all over the world, and determining what people who live the longest eat:
1. 3 half-cup servings of beans
2.One serving of berries
3. 2-3 other fruits
4.1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
5. One quarter cup of nuts or 2 tablespoons peanut or other nut butter
6. Herbs and spices, especially turmeric, cinnamon, parsley, etc.
7. One serving cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, etc.)
8. Two servings of other vegetables
9. 2 cups of leafy greens
10. 3 servings of whole grains (bread or cereal, whole grain only)
11. Beverages (teas, 5 cups water)
12. 40-90 minutes of exercise
He says he should have put mushrooms on the list, too.

Have you ever been on a congregation picnic?
by LostintheFog1999 inwere you ever on a congregation picnic?
i was on several occasions.. the arrangements were often announced from the platform after the closing song and prayer by the last elder up on the platform.. sometimes it was included in the service meeting announcements as "on saturday we're meeting at 10.00am at the kingdom hall for field service, and after field service for anyone who wishes, especially for the younger ones, we will be having a congregation picnic meeting at the beach carpark on seaview road.".
well, according to the new elders manual you won't be hearing those words again.

I remember a couple of picnics. I remember one sister complaining about another: "She brings a quart of Kool-Aid, and then she and her brood eat half of the food." I remember complaints that there was not enough food. A "good time" was had by all! LOL!

I can relate to this article so much! I was the only one in my family who became a JW as a teenager. I am very grateful that the rest of my family didn't go for it. I, too, married an elder and strove to be a dutiful wife to a man I didn't really have anything in common with except religion. I left him and returned to college in my 30's. I didn't have the additional struggle of being of a dark race, but, after all, I still was "only" a woman.
Her writing is excellent. It shows that she is educated. I sometimes ache for ex-witnesses because they weren't able to be educated, and make many mistakes in their spelling and grammar particularly. I know this weakness in grammar and spelling is not important to a lot of people, but it screams that the writer is uneducated.

My favorite Cooking Pot
by Wonderment inalthough cooking pots are not directly "religious" subject, perhaps not many will deny that a happy belly can lead to wholesome religious thoughts and peaceful spiritual discussions.. that said, through the years i have tried most major brands of cooking pots - all the way from all-clad to cast-iron skilets - including some with the most extraordinary claims in between.. however, the one we have used the most in our kitchen is one brand from denmark, specifically, the 5 quart pot called "scanpan.
" it is now approaching 40 years of daily use, and it has held-up surprisingly well.
the handles are as tight as day one when we bought it.

I still favor the old-fashioned iron skillet. A well-seasoned iron skillet is naturally nonstick. It also cooks evenly and imparts some needed iron into the food.
Of course, it was the default cooking implement of my grandmother, and anything she did is OK with me.

Doing away with Zoom will not hurt elderly and infirm or anyone else. It will give people options to do something else.
