I challenged a Dub out in service
by LisaRose ini was sitting in my car, finishing an egg mcmuffin before going to the grocery store when i noticed a dubbie going around talking to people in the parking lot.
i thought the chances were good she would approach me, and i decided i was going to do more than decline to take the pamphlet.. after i verified she was a jw, i said that i was a former member.
i said "do you know what the awake said in 1969?

She argued that it was never official.
Oh puh-leeze! If it's not "official" why can a JW be disfellowshipped for disagreeing with their "unofficial" pronouncements?
Great job bytheway, in maintaining your calm. You may have made a convert to the truth, the REAL TRUTH!

by El_Guapo inhi guys,.
i was going through some old threads (love this site) and i came across someone mentioning in a post that this site started as gathering place for jw's and somehow became an "apostate" site.

Have you ever shunned someone and then later regretted it?
If you can relate, participate!

Lately, I've been reading a number of thread lately that deal with this topic. One particularly poignant experience came from Simon. In Simon's story he shares:
Over the years, my dad never quit trying to keep in touch with us and would often come over and try and keep some contact but of course it was made difficult for him. My mother remarried a local brother and my dad had been Df'd and more and more pressure was put on us not to have any contact with him. ...
Over time, I lost regular contact with my dad and missed many years with him that I'll never get back. Something I bitterly regret and that they WTS will answer for.
Unfortunately, similar experiences are all too common among us here on JWN.
So my questions are this:
- Have you ever shunned someone and then later regretted it?
- What, if anything, did the person you shunned do to reach you?
- If they didn't reach you, but you woke up by other means, was there anything that they could have done to reach you?
- Were you ever reconciled? How did that go? Was their hostility and resentment on their part, or love and forgiveness?
Please share. May of us could benefit greatly and possibly heal broken relationships and avoid unnecessary pain.

Related to NPD is a deep-seated insecurity within the individual that has this disorder.
This explains why they are unable to handle anyone questioning or doubting anything they say. Many of the traits inherent in NPD are their go-to coping skills (albeit destructive) in an attempt to over-compensate for their own insecurity.

Hi Julia and welcome!
You've already gotten some great advice. I'd add that YOU should read Hassan's Releasing the Bonds. But since it does mention JWs you probably won't get your hubby to read it right away.
The biggest tool is to point out the hypocrisy in other religions and let him draw his own conclusions as he sees the hopefully obvious parallels.
In the meantime, check out these threads for more ideas:
- Scientologists break up families! Does this sound familiar?
- Agents of Reality came knocking on my door today ...
- Reaching Loved Ones Stuck in a Cult: An Idea for Discussion
- JW Beliefs: The Map IS the Territory
That's plenty of homework for now.
Please keep us posted on your progress!

Is it not hypocritical of the WTB&TS to acknowledge women can be a part of the 144000 annointed ones to rule with Christ ,yet deny them a place on the Governing Body ?
by smiddy inif jehovah and jesus see fit to allow women to be a part of the ruling elite in heaven for a thousand years , who are the g.b.to deny them that privelidge on earth ?
the basis of family life since adam & eve is the complimentary balance of male and female input ,so shouldnt that rule also apply to the governing of a christian congregation ?.
smiddy.

You're trying to make sense out of nonsense. In this case, the nonsense was promulgated by a bunch of misogynistic control-freaks.
Hypocrisy abounds in this (as in many) organization(s). Once you see it, you see it everywhere!

The WTBTS's policy on Higher Education will only continue to handicap their dedictated followers even more ... but then again: that's what they want: Keep 'em dependent!

It Takes a B.A. to Find a Job as a File Clerk
By CATHERINE RAMPELL | New York Times – Wed, Feb 20, 2013 10:52 AM EST
ATLANTA —The college degree is becoming the new high school diploma: the new minimum requirement, albeit an expensive one, for getting even the lowest-level job.
Consider the 45-person law firm of Busch, Slipakoff & Schuh here in Atlanta, a place that has seen tremendous growth in the college-educated population. Like other employers across the country, the firm hires only people with a bachelor’s degree, even for jobs that do not require college-level skills.
This prerequisite applies to everyone, including the receptionist, paralegals, administrative assistants and file clerks. Even the office “runner” — the in-house courier who, for $10 an hour, ferries documents back and forth between the courthouse and the office — went to a four-year school.
