First, remain calm: breathe in, breathe out.
Did you agree to a meeting? If not, then go out to dinner, shopping, anything, just not be there.
If you did agree, ditching is probably not the best thing to do.
If you have to meet with them, you and your hubby need to have your stories straight and put on your game face.
Hubby has NOT had any more drinking issues. "We're much better now! It's so nice of you to come by, too bad you have to go. Would you please pray for us before you leave?"
If you think you need to talk more, then perhaps you could hint at some personal issue/problems (but it is NOT between you and your hubby) that you'd "rather not discuss, because it's too personal." ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO GIVE DETAILS. Remember, just "hint." No details.
Be vague, but not evasive. Be non-committal, but don't be to obvious about it.
You've been depressed and confused ... confused by some of the Nu-Lite: Overlapping Generation, The GB is now the FDS, etc.
"Can you please help explain it to us Elder Busybody?"
Let them explain. Nod hopefully while still looking confused, "Thank you for explaining that Elder O'Sosmart. You've given me so much to think about." No matter what you do: Do NOT argue the point.
Let them think they have helped you. Elders have two "shepherd" modes: Protector (wannabe cop) and Helper. Keep them in Helper mode. Then thank them for coming by, profusely (but don't overdo it). Again, "We're much better now! It's so nice of you to come by, too bad you have to go so soon. Would you please pray for us before you leave?"
so after i stepped down and began to be the cynical young angry ex-elder in the hall a few brothers decided to have a surprise shepherding call.. they asked me what had me down, i said nothing.
i am actually very happy right now.
then one brother says, "i think you are forgetting what makes us so special in the first place... we obey god as ruler... rather then men.
elder says, " The way we handle disfellowshipping for younger ones is far more loving ... "
So when a DF'd minor turns 18--on that day, at that very hour--everything changes?
Pretty good reasoning for someone that's sosoconfused!
Let's review: It's a cult!
zed's thread on powerful albums got me listening to darren hayes after ages and i decided i would like to dedicate this song to the borg.

step into the light.
OWTO, thanks for putting up the Cee Lo Green tune. I wasn't familiar with it. It's a keeper!
my wife and i stopped going to meetings in 1988 and da'd in 1989. for a few years we both actively participated in the xjw world, she quit doing that a long time ago, and has pretty much completely moved on.
the other night i told her about my planned blog (which will probably launch this weekend) it will mostly be about my writing, a lot of which is mostly about jw related issues.
she asked why i am still so drawn to this subject.
Cofty gave a good answer to a similar question a while ago, something to the affect of helping others leave the organization.
probably not the first time this has happened, but the w13 5/15 at least twice made the same mistake that got moses killed by god.. p.8 par.
2: "with heartfelt zeal, we invite "anyone that wishes [to] take life's water free.
" (rev 22:17).
Nice twist SBF, but by that logic, the Big "A" shoulda come in 1954 = 1914 + 40 ...

Good, that means that, just like Moses, the GB members won't get to enter into the Promised Land. They'll get to peek at it from some vantage point and then die.
A fitting end.
Thanks for pointing this out, LQ. You just made my day!
last thursday i was propmpted by a recent thread to read the daily text (feb 28, 2013).
i then had the audacity to send a text message to all four jw's nephews/nieces (in their mid 20's).
i offered my opinion by summarizing it "put and shut up".
never a jw: am coming to the conclusion that religion brings more harm than good.
By George, I think he's got it!
A friend of mine recently said, "The problem with religion is the people." I thought that was ironic considering religion is a man-made thing!
