when i moved my family after leaving the jehoagies schmitnesses, i changed my phone number, and made sure it was unlisted.
little did i know that i would soon be receiving a call out of the blue from a jw.. now, this was a woman that i had worked with at one time and we were pretty good friends, so a few years later, when she called, i was kind of glad to hear from her.
the problem was, how did she get my phone number.
Outnfree:
Yes there is a uniform. It has been remarked that Dubs ALWAYS wear the western business suit, complete w/ tie. I grew up doing this & still have a closet full of them. I've seen slacks, white shirt, tie w/o a suit coat/jacket in warm weather. But it's generally the whole enchilada, unless it's stiffling.
Several have noted that 'national costume' is not accepted in the backs of magazines and probably in real life. This includes such places as Africa where the three-piece suit is NOT INDIGENOUS.
So, yes, I posit that they have a uniform, much as an RC priest does.
TR:
recording phone calls normally requires the 'warning beep': a tone repeated every 12 seconds. There is a mix of state & Federal codes on this one. Something that is much better is to have a 'supervised' call. Have someone listen on a third phone set & take dictation. Remove the mouthpiece, so that no extraneous noises occur. I've never seen this one attacked. That's probably because it's not a common technique.

larc is right on his thoughts. A CAREFULLY worded INQUIRY would start an investigation that would soon take a life of it's own.
Get it "weasel-worded" to protect yourself, though.
This is all getting into the heavy subject of Church Law. Much as previous incarnation's of Rutherford era Dubs hated and threw stones at the good old Romans of the Catholic persausion, they just keep getting more and more like them: recent re-org w/ an "order", adopting "vows of poverty" to bring the bookkeeping and taxes in line w/ government requirements and the adaptation of an international uniform.

as of january 1, 2001, canada has new privacy legislation (bill c-6).. similar legislation has been adopted in the u.s., although i am not.
familiar with it.

I saw a clipping on the new H2O about a week or 2 after it started on something similar in Steubenville, Ohio??? These crop up occasionally, but this one seemed to be win for the ordinance, at the moment. They frequently get smashed. Any news on this one???
Oh, BTW, does anyone subscribe to the old-fashioned "news-clipping" services?? JW's in the news could get some mileage there.

greetings to the readership:.
there have been reports over time that each kingdom hall keeps a "do not call" list of addresses.
these are addresses in the congregation's territory where, for one reason or another, the jws in the field service are advised not to make calls.
Skimmer,
Looks like it's taking shape. Here are further thoughts:
Usual language seems to be "right of quiet enjoyment". That is a recognized "legal doctrine". It is usually used to thrash a snoopy landlord or neighbor w/ a loud stereo, but I'm toying w/ using it in Lawyer's Letter to my overbearing JW father.
You are doing essentially the same thing, but I would include verbage to the effect of "...revoking...the right of easement...". That's the one they use to get to your door, anyway. I remember this from older publications. (BTW, I was 'picked up' by the local police several times in Field Service, once w/ a CO. That one looked like an ordinance test case in the making.)
You mentioned agents: better put that in the "glossary". You might want to expand that to include the currently popular name of the various ranks: publisher, Elder, MS, CO, DO & go further to include those not specifically mentioned, including some sort of special representatives. Make sure you get the least or tiniest included. They would "weasel" on the trickle-down aspect and try to cut it off somewhere.
Along with the last, re-read and check for their "annual verification visits", somehow.
There is such a thing as "agent law". Check on that.
Throw in baptised or unbaptised. That is another potential
"weaseling" portal.
You might want to push the glossary to the end, as an appendix or "exhibit".
Exclude their turning over your supplied address to mailing lists. A buck is a buck and the address is saleable. They (and you) could soon have quite a number of addresses.

as i`ve looked into the history of the wt society it has become glaringly obvious that one of the main reason for the growth of the.
org.
has been it`s fixation on the end of the world.
Dating game???
good one. But they seemed to have lost the brains behind the operation. They need to dream up a new prophet. You seem good on
tying dates together; better check the Brooklyn Help Wanted, JWD.
Could be a career move.

SKIMMER,
The one on Chief of Police was a Supreme Court reversal. Being Federal that covers all the USofA. What is curious about those matters is that DOESN'T run right out and kill the ordinances in every little nook, cranny and burg. They have to be taken out, one-by-one, based on the precedent. Frequently a nasty Lawyer's Letter will do it, sometimes more court. But this time it usually won't go the Supreme Court.
Again, w/ the proposed NDNCL Project, a Lawyer's Letter of REVOCATION OF THE RIGHT OF EASEMENT should be effective.
The Right of Easement is used by salesmen, you neighbor, JW's, newspaper boys, other churches and invited guests alike. It allows
anyone to approach your door on a reasonable pathway from the nearest
public thoroughfare. This is for such purposes as warning you that your house is on fire, delivering mail/bills/notices, complaining to you about anything and so on. (I have done all of the above.) This legal doctrine is usually considered to be broadly applied.
If you disagree w/ some (or all) of the users of this venue, you may
1) post signs to prohibit passage or 2) specifically notify individuals
that you decline their visits/further visits.
These could be filed w/ the local KH. It would be prudent to inquire which one 'possesses' your territory. Worded properly, it could have several effects.
1) Make it indefinite in term. This could keep away that annual Elders visit someone mentioned. Their most likely recourse would be a trip to the County Recorder's office to check for changes in ownership.
2) It would give the Congregation Secretary something to do. More notations than a one-liner would be required. An initial and annual trip to the County Recorder's office would be required. He would certainly earn his keep.
Note that gated communities have attacked the Right of Easement using the most direct of all approaches: WALLS.

Feel free to use this disclaimer, if you see the need. Frankly, you all need to protect and assert your religious freedom. Spread it around.

As they say, two can play this game.
Religious freedom isn't restricted to just a GIANT, ORGANIZED RELIGION. Individuals or a SMALL RELIGION can do it too.
As I mentioned above, the SWORD CUTS BOTH WAYS. If the Law recognizes XYZ, da biggie, it recognizes you, too. If the dispute is over purely religious ideas, and goes to CHURCH LAW, the Secular Law is out of it.

It sounds like the Canadians are more organized than we are here in the U.S., at least so far.
But, it's worth a try. Got to read some more on this one. Practical sounds like a good description. Definitely worth tossing a complaint about 'failure to disclose' to such a commisioner.
The more paperwork required, the more difficulty, like Skimmers No Call List(???name). Though here in the U.S. such a thing has been struck down based on the 'free exercise' clause of the 1st Amendment.
(Some city ordinance had the Chief of Police choosing what you could read!!!)
I'm just reading into the Privacy & Personhood Chapter on Constitutional Law. Need more data, of course. Just finished the chapter on Religious Autonomy. Gotta tell you, there is some frightening stuff in there. Religions can push HARD in the U.S.
for whatever they consider religious freedom. If you aren't LEGALLY
educated and aware, they can mow you down.
But, THE SWORD CUTS BOTH WAYS!!!!
