Fascinating. They sound just like Ex-JWs!

these two organizations are "cult" cousins!
(though perhaps scientology is a bit worse - but they're both horrific).

star trek claimed to be fantasy and in fact, was fantasy.. wts claims to be the sole truth on earth and in fact, is fantasy.. star trek had spock who solved problems with logic.. wts has a gb who solves problems with bullshit.. star trek had a pompous ass charismatic leader whom everyone loved to watch rant and emote.
wts had three pompous ass charismatic leaders whom everyone hated to watch rant and emote.. captain kirk was always saving his people from new disasters.. wt leaders are always leading its people into new disasters.. star trek made money by always giving its fans the stuff they wanted.. wts makes money by always charging its fans for stuff neither they nor anyone else else wants.. people had fun when star trek came on.. people would rather have a root canal when meetings come on.. star trek was all about making the cosmos a better place for all.. wts is all about making the cosmos a better place for a few and killing everyone else.. people love to go to star trek conventions.. people would rather be in an earthquake than go to wts conventions.. star trek had a transporter room.. people in meetings wish they also had a transporter room.. star trek had lots of insane villains.. wts had judge rutherford and fred franz.
same thing.. star trek also had lots of good guys.. good guys are banished from the wts.. star trek had the klingons who spoke a bizarre language.. wts had fred franz who spoke an even more bizarre language.. star trek had all sorts of devices which could cure most any medical problems, but of course, they were science fiction.. wts had the electronic radio biola which it sold and said could cure most any medical problem, but of course, that was science fiction.. star trek had floppy disks, computers you could talk to and flat screen monitors all of which were about 50 years ahead-of-their time.. wts had vaccines which were called "filthy animal pus", humans hearts which were the seat of all emotions, organ transplants which were cannibalistic, human personalities which were also transferred with blood transfusions and black people turning white by reading their literature, all of which were 100 years behihd-their-time.. if you missed a few star trek episodes in a row, no one came by to harrass you.. if you miss a few meetings in a row, you are in deep shit.. star trek tv shows and movies are still played all the time, even after 47 years.. wts dramas never even play a second time.
Borg cubes have windows.
1. mark 7:15 "there is nothing from outside a man that passes into him that can defile him; but the things that issue forth out of a man are the things that defile a man.. so how can eating black pudding or having a blood transfusion be a sin?.
2. roman 14:5 one [man] judges one day as above another; another [man] judges one day as others; let each one be convinced in his own mind.
so how come they say birthdays and festivals are a sin?.
Col. 1:15 (NWT) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; because by means of him all [X] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth,
Is.44:24 (NWT) This is what Jehovah has said, your Repurchaser and the Former of you from the belly: “I, Jehovah, am doing everything, stretching out the heavens by myself, laying out the earth. Who was with me? ”
Apparently, Jesus was with him, and he also did it by himself. There’s only one way that is possible.

Hebrews 1:5 For example, to which one of the angels did he (Jehovah) ever say: “You are my son; I, today, I have become your father”? And again: “I myself shall become his father, and he himself will become my son”?
Basically, the entire 1st chapter of Hebrews in a REAL bible completely blows MOST of the WT balony out of the water.
if witnesses believe that we truly are in the end of the end of the last days, and they believe the work they do will really save lives, and most can just make a few adjustments and get 30 hours, why dont they do this more often??
without the title?.
to me if you really care about people you would not wait until you have a special title or badge to wear of look at me im pioneering, you would do the most you can every month and not care about recognition from men.
Because...
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works,
so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Since JWs are not allowed to be saved by grace, they have no choice but to boast in their own works.
hi there, as was suggested to me, i'm starting this thread to say hi to everyone.. my awakening began recently, after the new light on the 'slave'.
i felt it didn't add up and went to check and found out ttatt.
for a while i tried to find evidence of whether the wt might still be god's organization, i needn't say i couldn't.. i had already resigned as a ministerial servant and a pioneer, had already had several issues with the elders and did not put up with their nonsense for a long.
Pardon me, but I have to re-post this bit of poetry...
Any wonder why these forums are lighting up with people awakening from this steaming pile of bovine excrement being passed off as a "spiritual banquet"?

Ha!
Oh, and welcome Alec.
so, a good friend of mine, a pentecostal christian, invited me to go to a retreat with her church.
we're the same age-19 years.
we were friends before i became a witness and she was always patient and caring with me especially throughout my arrogant spell as a witness.
MsGrowingGirl20,
As a Christian and a church-goer, I would highly recommend against going for a number of reasons. 3 days is WAY too much for your first experience. And at an away retreat? What do you do if you find yourself very uncomfortable and need to leave? I highly doubt you are prepared for their style of worship. Unfortunately, Outlaw's funny pictures are probably not to far off the mark. There are probably many mainstream churches in your area you could try for one Sunday morning first. Look in the yellow pages for a church called "community" or "non-denominational"; probably a much safer bet. Maybe ask your friend to go with you to one of those.
Ex
my wife belongs to a small nondenominational church here in town.
i have my reservations.
i am creating a list of questions to ask him.
If it's like most churches, they won't push you into anything. You can just relax.
- What happens when he and I have theological differences?
He will most likely be happy to discuss them with you and hear your thoughts. I bounce things back and forth with my pastor. They will let you take it in and learn at your own pace.
- Membership requirements.
I've been going to MANY different churches for over 25 years and have NEVER been asked to join any in membership.
- What path must I exercise to reach God?
Best question of all. You'll hear a lot about Jesus being that path.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you go. Yes, there will probably be a cross up front, but no, nobody will be worshipping it! LOL
here are some questions that i thought would be interesting to ask a jw if they were open to a free and open discussion.
this assumes a christian worldview that the bible is the word of god.
if you have any others, please post them!
"With reference to the Son":
Hebrews 1:10 “You at [the] beginning, O Lord, laid the foundations of the earth itself, and the heavens are [the] works of your hands. They themselves will perish, but you yourself are to remain continually; and just like an outer garment they will all grow old, and you will wrap them up just as a cloak, as an outer garment; and they will be changed, but you are the same, and your years will never run out.”
With reference to God:
Psalms 102:25 Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth itself, And the heavens are the work of your hands. They themselves will perish, but you yourself will keep standing; And just like a garment they will all of them wear out.
Just like clothing you will replace them, and they will finish their turn. But you are the same, and your own years will not be completed.
Go a verse or 2 before each of the above to establish who the verses are talking about.
part of "fun with science" series.....basically interesting stuff using math and science!
this is from xkcd's "what if" series where hypothetical questions are answered.
laser pointerif every person on earth aimed a laser pointer at the moon at the same time, would it change color?.
I think it could be entirely possible but it would cause the moon to melt because it's made of cheese. This would create a kind of intergalatic "fondu pot" if you will, thus drawing aliens from around the universe to partake because, hey, who doesn't love some great fondu?
Well, maybe not the Klingons... they love gak.
