What % of each JW talk do the dubs listen to?
by highdose innot sure how long the sunday sermon is now, maybe 30 mins?
how much of that are people listening to?.
the kh is stuffy, the kids at the back of you is kicking up a fuss, the kid at the front of you is choughing all over the place, theres several hotties to your left , to your right theres that asshole jerk who really upset you last week, you just remembered on the way back home you've got to get some food in from the shops, and you must remember to speak to brother so and so about this that and the other, and also you need to remind sister example about that stuff, shit!

I probably listened to 5-10% of the talk (out of 30 minutes, that's approximately 3 minutes, at most), depending on my level of zeal. The talk went by much faster than the Watchtower study, for me. Luckily I sat with some friends whose attention spans were equally as short, so we were able to distract each other. We would write notes in our Watchtowers and "pass" them, we'd point out funny things about the speaker and whisper them to each other until our whole row was stifling giggles.
I don't know if anyone else did this, but during the really boring lulls, I thought about really naughty things pretty much the entire time. Not because the Kingdom Hall was in any way stimulating, but rather, out of sheer boredom. Getting caught up in a fantasy was the best way to pass the time.

JW directives you thought were downright stupid
by fallen_princess ini remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.
i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.
of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

I guess you guys are right. The euphemism rule probably has been around for a while. I think the strictness with which they enforce it ebbs and flows, though. Some years the congregations start to get a little more lax, and then the Society decides to whip them into shape with some more "loving reminders". So irritating...

Recently there has been a new rule instituted concerning the use of "euphemisms" to replace cuss words. Jehovah's Witnesses are no longer allowed to say words like "crap", "dang", "shoot", "darn", "gosh", "flippin'", "frickin" and other such terms that are either derived from or facsimiles of real curse words. Though the rule originally applied only within the Kingdom Hall, now Elders and Household Heads are supposed to direct their families/children to abstain from such language in their daily lives.
Excuses for this dumb rule include:
-Slippery Slope: If you start using euphemisms, you will gradually adopt a permissive spirit and eventually start cussing like a sailor.
-Spiritual Cleanliness/Sanctity: If euphemisms are not actively discouraged, they will start infiltrating the congregation meetings, which will be unclean/discouraging/ disrespectful to Jehovah's House.
-Worldliness: If you mimic worldly traits in any way, you will become worldly, lose a good standing with Jah and die at Armaggedon.
Stupid. Rule.
