is it really sharing in their wicked ways to bid people well wishes on their holiday?

i mean, i'm not doing christmas myself, but if they want to have it, what's wrong with saying "enjoy!".

witnesses extend best wishes to newlywed pagans all of the time, even though they know that the marriage is a godless, heathen, false-worship-filled union of sex-driven materialistic people.

JWs in Florida and California. Is there really a difference?

i have heard over the years from many different people about how jws in those states are unlike elsewhere.

the parties they have, the way they dress and the permissive attitude.

i just heard from a sister that is from florida, that if you are not "spiritually strong" you will "fall out of the truth" down there.

Yes, culture does influence JW's too. Who would have thunk it? In my experience though, NYC witnesses are about the same as those from Southern California and South Florida. I lived in all three places as a kid. Southern California was definitely the most layed back, but everyone did a lot of fun parties, going out etc. etc. etc. in these three spots. In other words it seemed like you were actually allowed to have a little fun and cut loose, to a degree, without being looked down upon. This included dress. You could have a little flare and fashion. Both the males and females. It seems like there was a lot less of this in the mid west and south/central eastern states.

I definitely think the organization as a whole is idolized. From the GB to the publications they print.

Who is the faithful and discreet slave?

when i discuss things with my father regarding whether a governing body is needed for christians one theme that is constant with him is "if it's not the gb who is the faithful and discreet slave - who else is giving food in these days to god's people?".

i've been working on a response to this for the last couple of months and am just curious as to who christians who are ex-witnesses interpret the faithful and discreet slave to be, and the parable in general.. .

i guess i'm just looking to round out my argument and have a few different angles.

@DD - One more little factoid that was brought up in another thread the other day is Russell wasn't the FDS and the annointed body as a whole aren't the FDS, as was once taught, so the whole 1914 thing didn't even come ferom the FDS. Basically, their most important teaching and the biblical conon, the supposed cornerstones of their religion, were spiritual food provided outside the FDS.

i'm fed up of my still-in wife using this excuse that they can utter wrong beliefs and doctrines.. .

the fact that there are imperfect humans involved in the organisation is very much irrelevant.. .

we all accept, including jdubs, that these men are just men who may think and say wrong things like the rest of us as they go about their own lives.

i think there are many that stay in the religion simply because of family/friends considerations.

If I had actually got baptised and stayed in I'd imagine I'd be an elder by now. Probably with a closet crack habit because I couldn't stand to look at myself in the mirror.

Jws and poverty

when i say poverty, i mean not knowing where your next meal is coming from or being unable to pay your bills or afford necessary medicines poverty.

i'm talking the kinds of poor people who have to get food from charities kind of poor, or long term unemployment living in a trailer/caravan kind of poor.
