Will The Noah Movie Wake Some Up to TTATT?
by jw07 inthe trailer for the noah blockbuster has been released (even superman and thor are more believable myths).. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frtlt3deydu.
many jws on my facebook page are clamoring to go see it believe it or not.
others are pointing out the 'inconsistencies' with watchtower doctrine.. having something visualized and plainly layed out before you is useful when dealing with unthinking persons.. do you think that seeing it will help some jws to crtitically think about things they have read and glossed over?

Looks interesting. Is it just me, or does it seem that "the world's media" is paying a lot more attention to the stories of the bible lately? With little twists and turns for dramatic effect of course. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/filmchat/2013/05/scripture-on-the-silver-screen-new-productions-bring-bible-based-stories-to-life.html
why do you think this is?

Survival and Preparedness--What Are You Doing, Or Going To Do?
by CrimsonBleu init's been a long time since i posted here, but i lurk often, checking in on things in the jw world.
i have been out for 25 years, but have family still in.
none of them speak to me anymore, even though they used to quite often and quite regular, breaking all the shunning rules.

In my experience many of the Witnesses I know are "preppers". I think it just comes with the paranoid delusion that "this system of things" is going to end any day now. Though they're not very talkative about it as it could be construed as a lack of faith that Jehovah will provide when that time comes. I prep, but I don't get too crazy about it. Just the basics. Basic medical supplies. A couple hundred rounds for every gun I own. Enough food and water to last my family for 3 months. A couple caches buried. BOBs etc. etc.

Faith.
by wearewatchingyouman inso, i usually describe myself as an agnostic theist with fideist tendencies.
what this boils down to is that, for me, faith and reason are independent of eachother.
i believe in god even though it makes no rational sense to me.

I completely understand that, biblically, God has used men to carry out his will. My issue is that vowing yourself to a man made organization at the time of your baptism seems like a form of idolatry. It seems that even their own publications agree, beyond the recent one I posted above:
"We do not dedicate ourselves to a religion, nor to a man, nor to an organization. No, we dedicate ourselves to the Supreme Sovereign of the Universe, our Creator, Jehovah God himself. This makes dedication a very personal relationship between us and Jehovah." Watchtower 1966 Oct 1 pp.603-604

"since baptism has you dedicate yourself to the organization, right?"
That's a very good point. This is another one of those schizo teachings which make no sense to me. Let's look at this for a minute as it's the main point I make to my family as to how my concience can't allow me to have a JW baptism.
In the "What The Bible Really Teaches" book it states:
However, baptism is not a mere bath. It is a symbol of something very important. Going beneath the water symbolizes that you have died to your former life course. Being raised up out of the water indicates that you are now alive to do the will of God. Remember, too, that you have made a dedication to Jehovah God himself, not to a work, a cause, other humans, or an organization. Your dedication and baptism are the beginning of a very close friendship with God—an intimate relationship with him.—Psalm 25:14.
Now this I could agree with. However, the baptism vows are a direct affront to this:
(1) On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
(2) Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?
How can this be reconciled rationally? They're basically saying that what the bible really teaches is in direct contradiction to what they practice.

A new start? Watchtower renaming at HQ Columbia Heights
by Gorbatchov infriends,.
who was in any doubt that our jw believe is a marketing model, see this pictures of the still existing hq of jw at columbia heights.. earlier comments on jwn that something is going to change in the organisation, these comments are true.. in a few years we will not talk about the watchtower society, we wil talk about jw.org.
i think the current leadership will make a transfer to a new start.

Is JW Baptism the Only Valid Baptism?

"JWs believe baptism is essential for the anointed. Not necessarily for the great crowd,....."
Interesting... Why is that? Biblically speaking, what is the point of being baptised but not annointed in the Spirit of God?
