While some churches call the bans of marriage "vows", marriages are mostly civil/social contracts both now and in Jesus' time.

This is still kind of my point. Yes, modern marriages are mostly civil/social contracts. A legal document under the power of the State binding two people together. Otherwise known as a written vow, or a written promise to do what you say you're going to do. The State, according to JW's and many Xtians, is under the power of who? The wicked one of course. So yet again we're at a point where modern marriage is an institution "from the wicked one". Just because it offers protections within Satan's civilization doesn't make it any more in line with Jesus' teachings. Correct?

Just so we're clear - I'm not saying marriage is unscriptual, because obviously it is rooted in both the OT and NT. I'm saying that according to the bible the way marriage is performed today, including by Jehovah's Witness', seems to me to be in direct conflict with Jesus' instruction in Matthew 5.

So as far as we know Jesus was never married. I've often wondered why this was. Was it because of a personal belief? Was he just not interested in sex? Was fornication defined differently back then than it is today? Was he indeed married and this fact covered up? I've been meditating on Matthew 5:33-38 the last week:

33 “Again you heard that it was said to those of ancient times: ‘You must not swear without performing,+ but you must pay your vows to Jehovah.’*+ 34 However, I say to you: Do not swear at all,+ neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 nor by earth, for it is the footstool of his feet;+ nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.+ 36 Do not swear by your head, since you cannot turn one hair white or black. 37 Just let your word ‘Yes’ mean yes, your ‘No,’ no,+ for what goes beyond these is from the wicked one.+

A vow is defined as: To solemnly promise to do a thing.

As far as I can tell from this scripture Jesus is telling his followers not to take any vow. That of course would include marriage vows, and even means that the modern marriage ceremony is "from the wicked one".

What say you?

I doubt that. You get all the tax money you pay back on everything you pay taxes on? Gasoline? Milk? Pack of gum? Diapers? Socks? Pants? If so, you are taking some illegal deductions. If not, then you must have meant somthing else other than "100%".

No shit. I obviously wasn't referring to sales or state taxes. I was referring to federal income tax, which is what is affected by ACA deductions and credits.

Yeah, no. I already get 100% of taxes paid in back every year. In fact, I have write-offs I never use already, but will be now to pay the fine. A tax credit/deduction isn't going to do anything for me. My kids have medicaid. My wife has insurance through work(almost 500 dollars a month to cover me through her). I'm a small business owner who works from home and raises an 8 year old, 4 year old and a newborn.

Need advice, really wanna play COD

well my ps3 is downstairs because i had no idea how good games looked on tvs that weren't older than you are and i've run into a problem.

my mum doesn't know that i have "bad" games like cod, gta 5, legend of zelda and final fantasy (yeah ik last two aren't that bad but loads of religious stuff and magic) and it's getting harder to keep it a secret.. i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how i should go about this.

should i just wait a while and slowly introduce the idea to my mum that i play these games or should i just come out and play them and act like it'a nothing?.

Put down the controller and get outside man. Video games are rubbish. Nothing but energy suckers designed to make you a lazy POS. I've seen them ruin many a life and marriages later in life. You'd be better off with a crack addiction IMHO.

the thought came to me after reading replies to datadogs post on stopping singing at the meetings.. i can suggest a few secret signs for faders to use and to look for at the khall, but it would be better that current meeting attenders make suggestions here.

if readers on this site can agree to a secret sign to use at the meetings, just imagine the power that would have at your kingdom hall.

I think you should just stick to the old NWT as a sign and then there should be a question regarding a piece of clothing. Something totally off the wall.

"I love your blue shoes" when their shoes are obviously brown.

"Nice bow tie." When they are wearing a standard neck tie.

Something that is not really standard, but would be obvious to someone in the know. It could be laughed off if it's a mistaken identification, but answered with another similar remark if the person is a fader.
