Who is the faithful and discreet slave?
by wearewatchingyouman inwhen i discuss things with my father regarding whether a governing body is needed for christians one theme that is constant with him is "if it's not the gb who is the faithful and discreet slave - who else is giving food in these days to god's people?".
i've been working on a response to this for the last couple of months and am just curious as to who christians who are ex-witnesses interpret the faithful and discreet slave to be, and the parable in general.. .
i guess i'm just looking to round out my argument and have a few different angles.

Jude 22-25 JW apologists and anybody else.
by wearewatchingyouman in22 also, continue showing mercy+ to some who have doubts;+23 save them+ by snatching them out of the fire.
but continue showing mercy to others, doing so with fear, while you hate even the garment that has been stained by the flesh.+24 now to the one who is able to guard you from stumbling and to make you stand unblemished+ in the sight of his glory* with great joy,25 to the only god our savior through jesus christ our lord, be glory, majesty, might, and authority for all past eternity and now and into all eternity.
so, then - why does the gb separate those who become doubtful out of fear they will stumble some?

Faith.
by wearewatchingyouman inso, i usually describe myself as an agnostic theist with fideist tendencies.
what this boils down to is that, for me, faith and reason are independent of eachother.
i believe in god even though it makes no rational sense to me.

Satan thrown to earth "about" 1914?
by wearewatchingyouman inso i'm thumbing through the new "silver sword" and i notice that in the appendix under "message of the bible" that it says, "about 1914 jesus hurls the serpent satan to the earth...." i can't remeber ever hearing the word "about" and 1914 placed together before in regards to this event.
are there any jwapologists, or anyone else for that matter, who have an explanation for this?.

Hebrew scholars are actively correcting "mistakes" in the Bible!
by wearewatchingyouman injerusalem a dull-looking chart projected on the wall of a university office in jerusalem displayed a revelation that would startle many readers of the old testament: the sacred text that people revered in the past was not the same one we study today.. an ancient version of one book has an extra phrase.
another appears to have been revised to retroactively insert a prophecy after the events happened.. scholars in this out-of-the-way corner of the hebrew university campus have been quietly at work for 53 years on one of the most ambitious projects attempted in biblical studies publishing the authoritative edition of the old testament, also known as the hebrew bible, and tracking every single evolution of the text over centuries and millennia.. and it has evolved, despite deeply held beliefs to the contrary.. for many jews and christians, religion dictates that the words of the bible in the original hebrew are divine, unaltered and unalterable.. for orthodox jews, the accuracy is considered so inviolable that if a synagogue's torah scroll is found to have a minute error in a single letter, the entire scroll is unusable.. but the ongoing work of the academic detectives of the bible project, as their undertaking is known, shows that this text at the root of judaism, christianity and islam was somewhat fluid for long periods of its history, and that its transmission through the ages was messier and more human than most of us imagine.

Jack Johnson's intelligent SLAM of the JW's? "Never Know"...
by wearewatchingyouman inthe first time i heard this song it just sang to my soul... i immediately made the connection to jehovah's witnesses... i heard he studied @ one time... it would make sense, since he's a seeker, that he would want to know what they had to say... i don't know for sure if it's true or not... but when you look at the words of this song it's pretty friekin' obvious to me that this is an epic slam on the dogma of the twooth and how the experience affected him... then again it could just be my interpretation... the funny thing is he's one of the few mainsteam artists that i hear witnesses talk about in a positive light... what do you think?.

i heard this old story before.

A Critical Examination Of Jehovah's Witnesses Beliefs
by wearewatchingyouman ini ran across this document while searching for info on 607/587 a month or so ago..... i have to say it's the most in depth critical examination of what i like to call "the big 3"(144,000, arianism vs trinitarianism, destruction of jerusalem) i've ever seen.... it's basically from the catholic perspective, but i find that's good for research since that's basically who the borg pits themselves against.... i have to say that for the first time in my life the trinity as a philosophical concept actually makes sense to me... though i don't think i could call it a belief of mine.... .
just a warning it took me a long time to get all the way through... anyways, if you enjoy this type of stuff check it out and let me know what you think!.

by wearewatchingyouman ini've been a lurker on this forum and others like it for a while... it's been a great resource for research... i finally decided to join one and found this one to be the best.... born and raised fourth gen. jw... dad's an elder and missionary... we did special needs work when i was a kid... mom was dfed when i was a young teen... usual story for a born in... half family jw half not on both mom and dad's side... we have some high rankers and some annointed in the family tree... brother is @ bethel... i left when i was 18 never baptised never a publisher... just played the role of respectful son until i could fade away as to not jepardize dad's position... a skeptic privately from a young age...blah blah blah.... .
anyways i'm here mostly just to socialize, debate dogma, learn from others and and give loving support.... 30 yr old dude...as far as my current beliefs i'm what you might call an agnostic theist.... anyways that's enough blabbing for now... just wanted to say hey and give a little intro....
