In this last DC (2013) it was said by a GB helper that 40% of all the new Jehovah's Witnesses nowadays came to the "truth" by means of informal witnessing.
How could they know this?

portugal is one of 33 countries with more than 40,000 active jehovah's witnesses - demonstrating the gulf in size between the two faiths.. the following list shows all countries with more than 40,000 jws according to their reported peak publishers for 2013.. .

Though Scientology is undoubtedly a more quirky cult with its teachings of Lord Xenu and the Galactic Federation, it affects far less lives than Watchtower does.
Even so, the celeb factor gifted by the likes of Tom Cruise and John Travolta will likely allow it to hog the headlines over Watchtower for more years to come.

i stress that this is unsubtantiated and requires confirmation or quashing.. can anyone confirm or definately deny it?.

Nothing they do would surprise me anymore.
The only thing that would surprise me would be if they introduced reforms for the better. Everything else is just self-preservation, maintaining longevity, and increasing control.

by jwleaks injw leaks has published the written submission, and annexures, made by watchtower bible and tract society of australia to the "inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religious and other organisations" and dated april 9, 2013.. included is a copy of the october 1, 2012 body of elders letter on the handling of child abuse.
this places the letter into public domain and now means it can be shared internationally.. .

Very true. Far too few Witnesses know about Beth Sarim.
Also, on your point about how people look on old videos, if you check the video at 11:00 you see some smart people visiting the property who look perfectly fine. The old man on the right in particular appears far more "presidential" than Rutherford.

I saw that too, but I've watched silent films and people just look wierd in those films when there is no sound, also people do in fact do silly things when they are not drunk. Everyone is obviously entitled to their opinion but this video seems like it will help the WT play the bullied victim card.
I know exactly where you're coming from, but I think we both know he was drunk in this film. Jehovah's Witnesses have a seige mentality and regard everything as persecution, but if I were an indoctrinated JW watching this my thoughts would be (1) this guy's drunk, and (2) wow, the maker of the video isn't saying he's drunk but is letting me decide for myself. That's impressive.
