I never was too much. I did my JW 'duties' more out of a sense of obligation, as that was 'what I was supposed to do' and to stay in the 'good' graces of the congo and friends. It never failed that if your FS time suffered, you began to suffer socially as well. But as far as feeling guilty itself, I was blessed enough not to suffer from this too much I think that makes me a 'bad' person

Were you always guilt-ridden?
by MoeJoJoJo indid you ever stop feeling constantly guilty while you were in the org?
i never did, no matter how much i was doing as far as field service & meeting attendance it never felt like enough.
i never felt like i was doing enough, ever; even though we were at all of the meetings faithfully, with three young children, which was no easy task.. .

The only thing Rutherford had right was "religion is a snare and a racket!"
To answer your question - I'm a drifter. A move helped facilitate this w/out having to face the dreaded "Do you believe this is god's org" question. Before that I was VERY inactive, often joting down 1-2 hours (made up) so as to not attract attention. Made a few Sunday meetings and Thursday, but missed as many as I could. At that time my wife was riding the guilt train and made more meetings than me, but HATED every minute of them, the meaningless drivel, the gossip, the wierd/boring people , etc. This was about the time the generation change happened. That pretty much did it in for me. The instant I helped my wife realize she didn't need to feel guilty about missing meetings she was free too. Before that she missed alot of them, but felt terrible for doing so.
I showed her a few items from sites like Freeminds, etc and that was all it took. I think she too was ready to see that the 'truth' wasn't what is was cracked up to be. The biggest eye-opener I think (as was true for us) is simply the lack of love in the congos, and the double standards that are universally applied to the 'in' crowds (usually elders and family). As we were not 'in' the 'in' crowd, we often found ourselves paying for things that others did (or wrose) and got off scott-free for.
To this day, we've been left alone. The family knows we don't go to meetings, but we have a good relationship still. It helps I think that many of our extended family have never been JWs or left JWs - so they are 'used' to having family not JWs. Of course, we get the 'encouragement' to go back 'since the end is SOOOOO close now'. But not too much which is nice.
Leander, I have to agree w/ those that say don't take a stand too early. Try to dis-entangle yourself without making a scene. It MAY work, and if it does, you will at least retain sonewhat of a normal life. Just dodge the inevitable questions, asking for 'time' Eventually they may get the message and back off. Hopefully!

Reasons why we hate JW's (as an org)
by ashitaka inmy first reason is the fact that i was being controlled through the jw social structure, and having to fight to do anything....even whether to wear a tie or not.
the preoccupation with appearance was so debilitating; that was all i was ever concerned with.
and, as i'm not attractive, good in sports, or a conformist, i had very few friends.

termite: That is because they ARE desperate. With the male/female JW ratio, if a JW female hasn't landed 'her man' by age 18 she's doomed to a life of single pioneering - a fate worse than death!

Did you ever fake field service?
by LyinEyes ini know this was very wrong to do , but who out there stretched their field service time by any means possible?
example, letter writing, driving by the same house , when you knew no one was home.
let's be honest here, confess and get it off your chest.... lol

Haha! This was the universal JW practice. When pioneering, you found ways to count ever stitch of time possible. Streeeeeetching things was the rule, not the exception. Looking back, I wished I had done less actual FS and just made up time like writerpen did - although, I do have to say the last year or 2 I was 'in' I did just make up hours - usually low ones like 4 or 5 so as not to be suspisious[sp?] to the elders who had not seen my face at one FS meeting all month. They never questioned it ...

$300,000,000 - Percentage YOU Would Donate To WTS?
by Derrick inyou buy a state lottery ticket with a motherlode of a jackpot similar to one in california recently.. lo and behold you alone win the $300,000,000.. before and after the next meeting you share your joy with the brothers and sisters.
some are naturally curious to know what percentage you plan on donating to the world wide preaching work and local congregation?.
how do you respond?.

Ah yes - I truely did not know how the game was played when I was a JW. The 'green' handshakes w/ the COs, the large checks in the money boxes, etc. Taking the PO/elders out to dinner, etc.
Looking back I see clearly how certain ones seemed to have free reign to do what they wanted, rarely getting more than a slap on the wrist. It all had to do with money of course.
Yes, I think a flaunting of your money would earn you a certain 'get out of DFing free' card. If you weren't TOO deliberate about things. Depends on the hall too I would guess. The local elders would hate to wreck their money train!
