Thirdson: ha ha, don't give them any ideas! But their real problem would be how to make bio-degradable CD-ROMS

Why are JWs scared of death?
by NikL ini have been thinking a lot lately about death.
this is not surprising considering the turn of events on the 11th.. i have been re-awakened to the transient nature of human life and how it can go in the blink of an eye.
as the bible says life is vanity and a striving for the wind.. with all of the talk about world war 3 and how dangerous this world has become, i have been on a bit of an emotional roller coaster this past week.. the fear of dying is a normal and basic emotion.

Ah yes AL. The good old 'no marriage' deal. Used to tourque me up pretty bad. I mean, how can they say that to horny teenagers? Or worse yet, horney adults . Now THAT's a good reason to fear death - no more sex!!!!!
Proplog, whatever. I don't read hatred of JWs here. Just trying to understand what makes 'em tick There are some JWs who are terrified of death, and there are some that give it no thought.

Why the disaster will hurt the WTS in the long run
by Seeker injws have been excited about events last week.
their sensibilities have been fine-tuned to expect armageddon at any moment, and last week's events seem extreme enough to lead to one thing after another.. i think these events will hurt the wts in the long run.
consider the typical long-term jw.

Ha ha, trust good old brother 'some' to start causing trouble again. Wasn't he DF'ed? How did he get back in there?
And is 'may' his middle or last name? I always read about 'some may'. Is brother some oriental?
NY: I submit that it is NOT natural for people to be jumping all over every major news event hopeing/praying that this signifies the beginning of god's killing 6 billion people. Doesn't sound to 'natural' to me ...
I've heard it after every major event - how things are SO BAD, this has to be the end. Oklahoma = end Gulf War = end Ressesion = end. I'm sure before that Veitnam = end, Korea = end, Cuban Missle = end, and so on and so on.

Welcome, and don't be scared of us - most of us don't bite
If you've been lurking here awhile you've already learned soem disturbing things I'm sure. If you want more info on the WTBTS being a U.N. NGO, go to this page ...
It's a lot to read, but it sure is an eye-opener.
As far as the WTBTS saying anything to the normal JW that has not happened. They certainly have not 'announced' this in any WT, KMs, etc. However, there does appear to be an overall weaking in their outright condemnation of the U.N. there have been some blurbs in the Awake that have a somewhat favorable tone to them. I think this is to appease the U.N. NGO requirements, so they have printed material to show to the U.N. to prove they meet their end of the NGO bargain.
Who knows where this will lead, but it sure proves the two-faced hypocracy of the org, out of one mouth condeming 'false' religion for 'sleeping' with the worlds governments, all the while they're doing the EXACT same thing - using the goverments to their own advantage. All to 'further kingdom work' you know ...

I think most JWs don't give it much thought. I think the younger ones really think that they will a) never get old, and b) never die in this 'system' (which means they think they'll never die at all). I think that when their minds do cross the thought of death they are afraid of missing out on the new system. I don't know about everyone, but I never thought I was 'good enough' to make it. We were raised/taught to dwell on our sins, how miserable humans are, etc. "Probably you may be concealed" as a way to guilt us into more service, more meetings, more study. So many JWs are deathly afraid of screwing up, cause they think if the big A shows up w/out them having confessed to the elders lately they'll get zapped.
All in all a very warped way of life, having your spirit tromped into the ground daily by guilt.

And here I thought the Vikings were the first ones here ...
Farkel, so they're onto the old '6 billion gotta die' question now. Think it'll be in the next 'reasoning' book? I still don't understand how his answer was an answer though. You showed more restrant than I think I would have. Thanks for the story!

I understand where you are coming from. But don't let the anger that many of us feel (and I feel much of that anger is justified) color your opinions about 'all' ex-JWs.
Just like most JWs are trying to get other 'in' because that what the JW thinks is the best thing for a person, many ex-JWs are trying to get others 'out' because they think that is the best thing for that person. The difference? a) ex-JWs are not forced/coerced/guilted into doing this. They do it because they want to. b) ex-JWs are not serving a man/men's goals/ambitions, we don't turn in time, etc. and c) we don't require/ask that JWs 'join' anything, give money/time/whatever. We just try and present a different side of the religious story that the JW has been force feed for years.
As far as are ex-JWs happy, I think you will find that some are some are not, just like in the JWs, there are happy ones and depressed ones. I know for myself I have never felt better about myself, my family life, my wife and I are closer and stronger people now. But most people don't get onto boards and talk about how happy we are, we tend to focus on whatever problems we are facing. So that's one reason the overall 'tone' might make it seem many are just angry/bitter/etc - they may be angry about the things they suffered in the WTBTC, but that doesn't mean their entire lives are soured and ruined. It's a typical WTBTC teaching to make JWs feel like 'there is nothing outside the org' and 'all those who leave are sad, depressed, etc'. That's simply not true. I associate w/ more well-adjusted people now 'outside' the org than I EVER did inside. Yes, they all have their individual problems to face in life, but that's all part of what makes up being a human being.
Hope this helps, good luck in your journey of self-discovery. It's an interesting ride!

A little more inside info from Bethel....
by LDH inper my father this morning, they have found and identified the body of one sister, but 14 other jw are still missing.. i said, "dad, there's a lot more than 14 still missing.
silence.. also told me the brothers and sisters on top of the factory saw the second plane hit the south tower, and <<<<gasp>>>>>>> some of the sisters fainted dead away!.
we know how weak these women are anyway, this was no shock to me.

A little more humor on the 'weak' women at Bethel .. on the JW PR video you could hear one of the women moaning 'Oh my word - o my word' ... I mean, everyone else in the world was screaming "Holy SHIT!" or "Fuck" or similar, but we know that shocking language would never be heard at god house ...

LET'S MAKE A LITTLE WAGER
by You Know inperhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.
as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

Hmmm. So we had a 7% drop yesterday, and this AM is slightly up. No massive panic sellouts happening. Market where it was 3 years ago. Not to mention 4 1/5 BILLION shares were traded yesterday, an all time high, and there were those who said the market couldn't handle even normal traffic. Seems like 'war and panic' to me! </sarcasm>
Of course 'ol YK could get lucky and still be right about Oct. But I forget YK has now determined that the market has nothing to do with the economy. My bad ...
