Now we know where part of that 931 million dollars is sitting! Amazing that a 'non-profit' org would have so much free capital sitting around huh? Shouldn't it be tied up in building KHs and charities? Oh, right I forgot WT doesn't 'do' chairty.

TR, one of me best rides recently was an 80 mile enduro loop. I ride a KTM 400SX which is a pure motorcross bike (1.8 gal tank and all). Needless to say I was fretting the gas situation before long. We made it to a town and filled up. Chatted w/ the local sherrif at the petrol stop for ahwile (I was very nervous at first due to the fact that my bike has ZERO on-road ability, lights, tags, etc!) but he was just as freindly as could be, chatted about bikes, riding, etc. I too was following an ex-road racer who knew all the trails, and rock and rolled through the woods. There is nothing quite like pitching a bike sideways at 20-30mph and letting 'er two wheel drift of several feet before hooking up into a turn!!!! Fun stuff!
That ride kicked my ass. I was cramping so bad at the end I literally could not let go of the clutch side handlebar. If I had fallen I would have been locked on But it was worth it, and I can't wait to do it again. I mostly ride trail, enduro type stuff, and a tad bit of motorcross at a local track, just to keep in shape, but I'm too old to do the giant jumps of doom I roll the 'scary' ones!

Of course , the number of those associated with Jehovahs Witnesses is not a criterion for determining if they enjoy divine favor, nor do statistics impress God.
LOL! I bet they regret ever saying this It flys in the face of their proud little annual statistic-fests they love so much!

Gopher, I think that a 1% death rate per annum is generally thought to be standard. So take 1% off each year. To be accurate, you would have to, for each year ...
Last year's pub count + current year's baptisms - 1% = new year's pubs.
The difference between your result from the above calc and the 'reported' pubs would = the # of people who left the JW org.

From what I gather, and this is all hearsay, is that he and 'da Judge's wife wanted NOTHING to do with the JW cult. And would not talk to anyone about it, wether they were pro-JW or anti-JW. I can understand why they would want to try and forget all about Joe 'Booze' Rutherford!

Special Talk in April
by RubaDub inevery year there is a "special talk" given around the end of march or april.
having heard dozens of them over the years, i never quite figured out what was "special" about them.
certainly no "new light" or anything ... just ... well .... the same stuff.. am i correct or not in my observation ???.

I agree. My reaction has always been, "What is so special about this talk?" They were never worth the hype.
Ditto. I can't remember how many times I though "Uh, so where's the 'special' in this 'special' talk?" I don't recall ever hearing anything 'new' or earth shattering at one of these.

Deprogramming your "Last Days" phobia...
by logansrun inraised in a religion that preached a massive, theocratic holocaust for the majority of mankind can leave you with more than a few mental and emotional scars.
i remember being terrified on new years eve in 1986 (i was 9 yrs old) because of all the talk that that year was the "international year of peace.
" i was conditioned to look at world events as being a sign that the end is near, sound familiar?

Elder Rumor How Widesprd: IraqWar=WWIII=Armageddon
by romansfourteen1to6 inan inactive friend just spoke to some elders who, not from the platform but one-on-one, said they believe the coming war with iraq will cause world war iii and armageddon.
has anyone else heard this?
it may be that some are using this as a tactic to scare inactives back into the watchtower society along with their needed donations, especially since the pedophile and wts-u.n. scandals.

Ah yes, the never ending ups and downs of 'hope' within the JWs. Every major news event forshadowed the big A. I recall the many 'discussions' w/ my mother leading up to Desert Storm, her telling me that they would bring back the draft, I would be in prison (cause I would refuse the draft right?), the war would ignite WWIII and the big A would come. Yep, isn't that exactly how it went down?
I also recall how 'big' it was in 1986 when the UN declared it the year of peace and security. Big Whup.
No difference here. Even IF, and this is a big if, this war were 'worse' for the US than the last one, it has nothing to do with the big A or god or anything. It is simply one more of human's many wars that have occured. Even in a worst case WWIII type deal, it's still a human endevour. If we nuke ourselves off this planet it's our ownv damn fault.
