Sheila
You & Bill are both good and courageous people. I hope at least a few of your family will realize that to claim you as "kin" is an honor.
I would think that you did affect those men just a little (even if they pretended otherwise in the group setting)

ANGER!!!
by Rado Vleugel inwhen i surf on this discussion board i feel a lot of anger.
this is totally understandable because a lot of us suffered or still are suffering from their association with the watchtower society.
some of us are victims of child abuse.

We can continue our struggle for more freedom within the Organization -a healthy policy regarding blood and sexual abuse and a humane associationwith Disfellowshipped ones- without venting our rage on the Society. If we approach all these issues on a balanced manner, doubting Witnesses will see that our intentions are good and that we arent stereotype apostates
Rado,
You've been fighting this battle a long time and we would be wise to follow your advice.
I think those above points are the best we can hope to achieve. Being viewed as balanced is one reason I urged people not to march on Sept 27 as Radical Looking Apostates. We won't be credible if we are seen as Watchtower Hater's we must be seen as opposed to certain policies. My idea's was not too popular

Silentlambs March: Controversal Idea?
by Nanoprobe inthis is a controversial post because it relates to your personal grooming & dress.
problem: jr brown & watchtower have managed to create an image problem for bill bowen & silentlambs.
in jw land he isn't a victims advocate, he is simply a deceitful apostate.

.How Reliable Are the Views of Dissidents
Dr Rodney Stark
The most unreliable evidence available is from people who have quit a group and for some reason or another are harboring a grudge
JW-Media paid Dr. Stark to label us as dissidents. They must think it is an effective tactic.
I will march as Sister Faithful & Concerned about Child Abuse.
I will Not march as Sister Df'd "I hate this Freakin' Cult"
Sister Faithful is credible; Sister Hate Cult would march to protest the GB breathing NY air. Sorry but she is not too credible. JR will use every opportunity to paint us disgruntled EX Witnesses.
Watchtower paid Dr Stark big bucks to label us Dissidents; I am not labeling myself for them for FREE
I want to thank Prisca, Laurie, deddaisy and everyone else for discussing this idea.

What the society fears most is an "ORDINARY" Apostate
That is a paraphase of a quote by a society lawyer, Hayden Covington, I believe. He says the society fears most a "normal" opposer, not a radical, not a fanatic, not a flaming apostate. Just a normal witness. (if someone has the actual quote please post it I couldn't find it)
Do you understand why this is true?
What happens if we give them "a boat load of ordinary apostates"?

Your words of course are logical and they make perfect sense and your advice would be the best IF not for one thing:
Watchtower thinking does not make sense and is not logical.
The world would think: Look how nice that is that all those different types of people can come together.
Not JWs. You can fill in their comments here_______________________________________________
Would you at least consider erring on the side of conservatism in dress? Being a flaming Apostate will even upset Bill O'Reilly.
I very well know this is NOT the end all, be all solution to anything and # 1 is the number of marchers. But WTBS is big, powerful, rich and we have so little to use against them and at this time for this march it's the only ploy I can come up with that can impact them in any way. Of course your presence is NUMBER 1 however you dress.

Valis:
Your reaction is exactly the response I thought I would encounter when I posted this thread.
In fact its exactly the reaction the Watchtower Society is counting on most marchers having.
They indoctrinated us and they indoctrinate all current members with beware of THE APOSTATE ATTITUDE & along with that goes the APOSTATE LOOK.
JR et al has attempted to smear even Barbara, Joe, and Bill with accusations of acts unbecoming a Christian.
The world can't believe any group would disfellowship Child ABuse Advocates (It's too ridiculousto believe) so MAYBE there is more to the story.
But what happens if we don't give WTBS what they expect? What happens if the words coming out of their serpent tongued mouths don't match what the press and other people SEE?
So for all the witnesses out there and for all many other conservative Christians: Let's NOT look like WTS image of an Apostate.
And yes, I understand that this is PERSONAL to you and to many others, and I understand you want to snub your nose at them. I don't blame you one bit.
But we'll beat them by strategy not on emotions. Remember for them it is just Business As Usual it's not personal
Just consider it a little more.

Is Goal Setting Good Or Bad?
by larc inis goal setting good or bad?
sounds like the title of an awake!
goal setting can be very good in that it gives direction, purpose and accomplishment in a person's life.

There are so many great thoughts here. I especially like jgnats
What goals does God set for us? Love not hours
And dsgal
They study about love but it takes a backseat to getting in your time, preparing meeting parts(regarding a funeral). It seems to me it's only human nature to show kindness at a time like that, but they lose all humanness after a while.
I have a funeral story:
My friend's son was killed in a car wreck. My friend, Louise, had been raised in the truth, married to an elder, pioneered for many years and raised her four kids as great little witnesses. But evidently her husband left the truth and her. The kids all left the organization but this sister stayed faith never missing a meeting, auxiliary pioneering, etc.
And then her youngest son was killed. Our congregation acted like he was a stranger they had read about in the morning paper. No one was interested in bring food or helping out. I went to the elders and talked to them about the problem. They told me if I was concerned I should organize it myself. So I did, a few kindly other sisters came over and brought food and stayed to serve the family after the funeral. Not one elder(from this hall) went to the funeral even though it was at the child's grandfather's kingdom hall. It was sad, it seemed if you did not have a good husband in the org than your contributions didn't count.
Putting in field service hours don't help much when compassion is needed. A legalistic approach to God doesn't contribute much to love, does it?

Occasionally I encourage a few people to come to JWD, especially people with whom I have discussed child abuse issues.
I would think that strangers who are leery of coming here might still risk looking at the CHILD ABUSE BOARD and especially at a topic involving Bill Bowen.
That being said: In the future w ould it be possible if some people notice that a feud is developing that it be moved to another board?
Would such a suggestion in the thread be met with disdain?
