Welcome to the forum Ging. You'll find we are a hugely diverse group and yes, while some of us are very angry due to personal experiences, if you invest a little time and see WHY they're angry, you might understand. For the most part, this forum is full of love and TONS of support, and I personally have made many friends here - UNCONDITIONAL friends. The kind that don't abandon you. They accept me for who i am....not "play by my rules or i won't PLAY with you!"
By the way, you don't have to SHOUT. (remember the fruits of the spirit).

Bad things in JWs eyes
by rebel injoy2bfree's post on cults got me thinking.. was anyone else told that certain harmless things (harmless in my eyes) were satanic.. i know you have all mentioned smurfs, but i was also told that the 'my little pony' toys were demonic because they were designed by a wizard?????
did i really believe this rubbish - my daughter always wanted one but i wouldn't buy one for her cos i thought i would be inviting demons into my house - i feel really rotten now!.
also wind chimes (which i always wanted cos i love the sound), anything written by sir arthur conan doyle (and i love sherlock holmes and felt so deprived), the beatles, john denver - can't think of any more at the moment but there were quite a few.

I can't remember what year (sometime around the 80's) there was a huge deal about using Proctor and Gamble stuff. It turned out to be just a rumor that spread REALLY REALLY FAST. It was about the company being demonic because there was a moon, stars and a funky face in the logo. In any case, there was TONS of P&C stuff in everyone's household; i remember having to throw away a brand new bottle of shampoo! mom insisted.
Eventually, they had to make an announcement in the congregation about it just being a rumor, and about how we should beware of spreading falsities.

Visited by JWs today
by Soledad inmy mom had an accident about two weeks ago, fortunately she is ok. im living in my parents house now after my husband (yet again) threatened to "beat the crap out of me"---that story in another post some other time.
needless to say, ever since she got out of the hospital the phone rings about 50 times a day, mostly calls from the "hermanos.
" today a couple that i have known for about 15 years comes to visit, and their "discomfort" with my presence (i am da) is quite noticeable.

Good for you Soledad!!!! wish i coulda been a fly on the wall. Yes, it is your mom's house....but to ask you to "isolate" yourself shows more loyalty to the "hermanitos" than to her own child. OMG? DID I JUST SAY THAT? IS THAT NOT THE JW WAY? ugh. Anyway, you behaved admirably...kill'em w/kindness. It's not like you were going to hold a seance in their presence or anything !!! hahahaha!!! but my question remains, let's say Judas changed his mind, did the good thing and DIDN'T betray him. then the whole sacrifice thing would have been unravelled and EVERYTHING would have been screwed up, no?
I have issues with the sacrifice thing too. why the hell didn't god just wipe the slate clean and be done with it.

God is "ALL -POWERFUL"... He can do whatever he wants, right? Why not just wipe the slate clean? Why the need for "sacrifice" of ANYONE. hell, he doesn't need to prove to us peons down here on earth that he loves us! we're nobody! He doesn't HAVE to do jack!

i have always had the desire to give to charties and people in need since i was young.

Was Judas really a bad guy? Should he be condemned for doing something that HAD to be done? I mean, after all, had he not "betrayed his master".....then Jesus wouldn't have died, right? Judas had to do it otherwise prophesy would not have been fulfilled. So in this case, Judas was the scapegoat. Imagine if you were born JUDAS...does that mean you wouldn't have had a chance since you were "destined" to be the bad guy? Doesn't seem fair, does it. I mean, yeah, he betrayed him, but he HAD TO....otherwise, the prophesy wouldn't have been fulfilled.....
uhg. makes my brain hurt. but i've always wondered about this.
what do you guys think? interested in your thoughts.

Ouija Boards

and eventually we got around to discussing the ouija board.
since i was raised a jw and have only been out a year, the ouija board was of course forbidden and even a little scary.
