Stories like this prove something that I have always believed; That the Holy Spirit does not stop communicating with us just because some committee got together and closed the canon on the Bible a few hundred years after the death of Jesus. This is the sort of story that Jesus would have told to his followers. It is the sort of story that speaks directly to our hearts. I can't define what truth is, but I know it when I hear it. second kings, we learn that menahem, leader of the israelites, smote all the people who refused to follow him and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up (2 kings 15:16).
later, in hosea, we learn that because the land of samaria rejected god, samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her god: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up (hosea 13:16).
hosea decided to carry out gods vengeance on the people by killing the unborn babies carried by the heathen women.

I seem to recall a professor, commenting on the tension between the pharisees and the sadducees during the time of Jesus and Paul, holding that the Jews had been greatly influenced by the Babylonians and Persians during their captivity. The pharisees seemed to have borrowed some ideas from their captors. They may have borrowed the book of Job as well. He also held that the Hebrews really didn't exist as a people until Moses welded them into a definable group, during the 40 year wandering, from a polyglot group of semites(read wetbacks). Is this the time period when they "borrowed" their god from the Caananites? The bible would seem to indicate that Moses learned about Yahweh from his father-in-law. Does this story recount the event of the "borrowing"?
my children have decided to fly me back to oregon to spend christmas with them.
this will be the first time i have seen my family since february 2001 and since my heart attack ... so this is a special time for them and me - and i get to see all my grandchildren.
i promised to make three finale posts ... i have written two of them but i am holding off until i can think them through more and be sure of what i want to say ... so i may post them soon or when i get back on the 27th.

the point of this post is to make plain what was once secret.
most all of us recognize dec 25 as a date once reserved for celebrating the winter solstice by honoring various sun gods or god's associated with light.

I said the Christ in our hearts. Didn't say anything about Jesus. We all of us have the potential to become the Christ. I consider that Jesus is our brother, not our God. He certainly was a troublemaker. I think the Romans crucified him primarily to appease the Jewish leaders.

Yes, I've always had some reservations about the Xmas story. As far as I know, the slaughter of the children by Herod has never been confirmed outside of the bible. Nevertheless, the Xmas celebration is a wonderful time to become aware of the only thing that counts. That is the birth of the Christ within ourselves. I believe the Christ presence is that part of us which remembers our true heritage as children of the Most High. Unless the Christ is born again within us, the celebration is meaningless.

I'm with Roddy on this one. The claimants will not be able go beyond the resources of the diocese in order to collect. And I'm sure that Roddy is correct that the diocese can manuever the assets in such a way as to make it virtually impossible for anyone to collect anything.

The operative phrase in your post is "The God of the Bible". I would have to agree with you on that score, but I don't really believe they knew anything about God.

You have already been given some excellent advice. I don't want to sound too metaphysical, but the things we focus on do tend to manifest in our lives. Remember the line from Job:"Lo, the very thing I feared has come upon me". Look for the good and praise it. Do some serious thinking about what you want to do with your life and then begin to do it, one small step at a time.
i have seen several threads about how the elders are going to be going around asking people if they still consider themselves to be jehovah's witnesses.
this will undoubtedly result in multiple da announcements in the coming months.
i'm curious how the average jw will perceive this and respond to it.
