Very insightful post Mark. Most people assume that the words "heal " and "cure" are synonemous. They are not! I've known people who were healed, but not cured. That is, the disease was still present and in some cases was terminal. I happen to believe that all disease is a result of mistaken beliefs about who and what we really are. We have become so attached to these mounds of flesh we call the body that we believe that that is what we are. Sub-consciously we seek to punish ourselves for dreaming the dream of separation from our creator. People in the medical profession will quickly tell you that not everyone wants to be cured. We fail to realize that we are the authors of our own movie scripts. We don't realize that we are dreaming because we have forgotten what being awake is really like.

disease and suffering
by Markfromcali inwe view our desire to get rid of disease as a desire to live.
but instead it is often just the opposite: it is an attempt to avoid life.
although we seemingly want to be alive, in fact we simply want to avoid intensity.

They hired a JW at my job
by dura-luxe ina new girl was hired at my job, and within 4 days it came out that she was a jehovah's witness.
amazing how you could go years without knowing another coworker's religion, but we all had to know about this girl within 4 days.
they had an assembly this weekend, and of course, we all knew exactly why she was taking the day off.

I once got this advice from a Disciple of Christ minister who had been raised by a JW aunt. "You just have to outlove them; besides it confounds the hell out of them".

What book are you reading now?
by ozziepost infrom time to time we like to share some good reads with each other on jwd, and now might be a good time to share with you what i'm reading this week.
it's "the gate" by francois bizot which tells of his experiences as the only western prisoner to survive the khmer rouge in cambodia.
in 1971, on a routine outing through the cambodian countryside, the young french ethnologist francois bizot is captured by the khmer rouge.

The Disappearence of the Universe by Gary Renard. It deals with some 17 visits to Gary by two Ascended Masters who were the diciples Thomas, and Thaddeus in a former life.

If its good, God did it... if its bad Satan did it....
by Elsewhere in.
.
i've read the bible and i don't recall satan himself actually ever doing anything evil or harmful... however i read many accounts where god killed or tormented countless thousands of people for arbitrary reasons.. aside from prophecies where jehover says that satan will hurt people in the future (hasn't happened yet, and no sign that it will happen), can anyone cite an example in the bible where satan actually harmed anyone?.

This thread indicates erroneous thinking on several levels:
Error #`1-That God created this world.
Error #2-That the bible is a reliable document.
Error #3-That a power other than God even exists.
Error #4-That our experience in this world is anything other than a bad dream.
Actually #3 is the key. Everything else stems from the belief in duality.

REMOVE ONE AND ADD ONE : BIBLE BOOK
by Terry insubtract one book from the bible and add one of your own.
what is the name of your book and what is it about?
which do you get rid of and which do you replace it with?

I would remove Revalation and replace it with the Gospel of Thomas. There are several more that should be removed, however.

Which Bible?
by Hoofie inhello friendly folk,.
i'm afraid i don't have time to scroll through everything on this site, so i thought i'd ask the question instead - does anybody recommend a "neutral" translation of the bible that i can use as the basis for my studies..?
i just want to start doing my own research and i'd be grateful for any advice from fellow ex-jws as to where to start.

I'm with Leolia on this one and prefer the Jerusalem Bible. Where Old Testatment material is cited in the New Testament it is clearly referenced so you can refer to it. A useful tool would be The Interpreter's one-volume Commentary on the Bible. It contains all of the material referred to in Terry's #3. It tells you where stuff has been added, modified, edited, copied, etc..It discusses languages, history, culture, authorship, money, how the various books were selected, etc. You can't really understand the bible unless you know the background in which it was written and collected.

Little Toe is correct. You have planted a seed of truth. You can't expect it to grow overnight, but it will grow. Keep on planting!

You are supposed to click on the words and read the article. I think the writers on the original series were the best. Very metaphysical! The old episodes look pretty crude by today's standards, but they were way ahead of their time.
