Going Back
by ozziepost inlast week we had a thread asking "did you ever feel like going back (to the borg)?
in times of doubt, there's always a tendency to wonder whether you've done the "right thing".
in such times, the past can be looked upon with "rose-coloured glasses", remembering only the good times.

Hurled to the Earth - Why?!?
by Mister 8iggs inbasically, this is my take on it.
this isn't intended to start a flame war between believer's and non-believer's of god.. god creates angels.
god creates man.

Your post reminded me of my college days at Louisiana Tech (a Southern Baptist school operating in disguise as a state university). The professor of Literature was a Jewish fellow who had tenure. Most of his students were from small towns in La..He used to begin his course on The Bible as Literature with the statement "We are now going to discuss the Bible, the largest collection of myths and fairey tales ever assembled by mankind". That was quite a shock for the students from Dubach, Delhi, and Dumas. I began to understand the purpose of tenure after I heard that.

GOOD NEWS
by UnDisfellowshipped inthe gospel of salvation -- the good news of god!
all scriptures below are from the "literal translation of the holy bible" (go here for information about this bible translation: http://www.kconline.com/paul/litv/litv.htm ).
you can see clearly below that the watchtower society is not teaching the true gospel of christ:.

If you believe everything you read in the Bible, you will continue to be confused because the Bible is contradictory in many places. The Jewish religion practiced animal sacrifice. Is it so strange that they would see Jesus's death in that light? The Jewish view of God was terribly warped and distorted. Jesus showed us a different way to look at God. You haven't sacrificed any animals lately, have you? God does not take delight in the sacrifice of animals and certainly not in the sacrifice of humans. In a sense, Jesus did die for us, but not for our sins.

I doubt very much that God has anything to do with this earth and the mess that we have created on it. This is our deal, not God's. If you believe the first few verses in the book of John, it clearly testifies that the creation was by and through the Logos (Son?). It is as if the Son said "please Dad, I'd rather do it myself". And so Dad let him. Who is the Son? We all are! If you drop a crystal containing a holographic image, each of the shattered pieces bear the entire image, albeit somewhat fuzzy. The image will not become clear again until we remember that we are all one; one with the Father and one with each other. How ridiculous of the old testament writers to attribute to God their own shortcomings. Violating the principles of Love does have consequences, but to pin that on God? I don't think so!.

There are far too many scriptures to comment on. However, I'm not comfortable with the jewish concept of the ransom sacrifice. It seems to me that the purpose of Jesus's coming was to show us what the possibilities were. He said that the "kingdom of God is within you". His challenge was for us all to rise to the level of intimacy with God that he demonstrated. He certainly did not intend to be worshipped. His response to the rich young ruler who addressed him as "Good Master" is very revealing in this regard. He demonstrated that this life on earth is not all there is and that death can be overcome. Obviously, he understood that in order to make that demonstration, he would have to go through the process. We all have to do our own spiritual work. Jesus can show us the path, but we have to "show a little willingness". Looking at Jesus through the new testament is like looking through smoked glass, clouded by doctrine and dogma. I prefer the view through the channeled material in A Course in Miracles, or the writings of contemporary mystics such as the late Joel Goldsmith which relies heavily on the Gospel of John.

Should you carry "I Want Blood" card
by MegaDude inchatting with elsewhere last week, i was surprised and not surprised that he wanted legal documents drawn up that would give medical and legal power of attorney over him not to his family, but rather to ex-jws he knows if he became incapacitated or was killed.
elsewhere is a devout atheist for one and the very thought of his parents having a jw minister (or any minister for that matter) saying a few words over his final resting place is a repugnant thought to him.
i truly understand that.

My demon posessed PC experience
by jws inbeen reading some of the demon stories posted from time to time on this forum.
i for one am skeptical of them all because many of people i knew who reported such experiences seemed to be either mentally or emotionally unstable.
i've personally never had any such experiences despite my ac/dc and led zeppelin collection - and never wanted to.

Mortality
by DakotaRed inat one time, nearly all of us held the thought that we would live forever.
the thought of our being mortal and actually dying just wasnt there.
deep inside, we all know we are going to die one day, but has the realization of the truth of that ever just hit you, right out of the blue?

Why should anyone be surprised? Keeping the membership tired, drained, numb, and isolated, are standard techniques practiced by all cults. Why would the elders try to save a marriage where one of the parties was not open to the "truth"? Better to end it and get the Dub in harness with someone that can be controlled. I think some of the policy makers (GB) are going to have a lot to answer for on the "other side" when they have to explain to God why they worked to destroy his real organization, namely the family.

Jesus ... the greatest sacrifice?
by Simon inthis will probably sound controversial to anyone who is still religiously inclined so i apologies upfront and do not mean any offence by it.
it's just my 'pondering'.. i was thinking about all the times that i heard form the platform and read in the watchtower that jesus made the greatest sacrifice ever in history by giving his life in exchange for all minkind, to die for our sins etc.. but even if this were true, would it be such a great sacrifice?.
giving one life in exchange for thousands ... millions ... billions seems to be not too big a sacrifice for the return and one that many people would make today.

I am reminded of what Charles Fillmore (founder of the Unity movement)responded when one of his students asked if Jesus was God. "Jesus was not God. However, he so gave up his sense of personal self, so identified with his creator, that it becomes difficult to tell where Jesus leaves off and God begins."
I think Jesus came to remind us that we are all Sons of God. That we all have that same divine spark within us that Jesus had. He had to be aware of what the outcome of his mission would be and the price that he would have to pay. I don't think that he claimed to be special in any way that we are not. The only difference between him and us is that he remembered who he was and we have chosen to block that out.
