Where in the Bible does it talk about an earthly Paradise as the JW's teach, and why only the JW's will be there?

To be fair JWs don't ever actually say that only JWs will be able to live forever on earth. That being said it is HEAVILY implied.

Reasoning:

Only righteous will inherit the earth- to be righteous you must be in close association with God's spirit directed organization. They say that they are said organization. In fact when you are baptized as a JW you are baptized in the name of Jehovah, Jesus, and God's spirit directed organization.. lol WOW!

To be elegible for everlasting life you must be involved in righteous works- they say that based on scriptures that they are "spearheading" the preaching of god's kingdom today and no other religion does that. God's spirit directed organization is organizing this work today. Guess who..

I could go on and on but whats the point. They don't teach that only JWs will survive armageddon but they do. Go figure that one out.

Elder's attitude to dating a non-believer vs acting like a Christian

i've not been on here for quite some time, due to personal reasons.. i have been dating a wonderful man for nearly 11 months now.

he's a non-practicing cofe christian.

i am a recently inactive jw (oh, how i regret getting baptized at 15).. my dad is an elder.

Your father is afraid to be deleted as an elder. If there are others on his body that have personal issues with him or don't like him they could use this as a reason. They can tell the CO that by associating with you and your man he is giving "tacit approval" to your "unchristian" course of conduct. He is not exemplary anymore and therefore must be deleted.

Elders love to throw that word around "exemplary" to qualify or disqualify someone. Yet ask them to explain to you what it means and they wont be able to. Its kind of an umbrella statement to cover non scriptural reasons. lol. so stupid.

Special Local Needs talk this week

it was announed at the sunday meeting 9/1/13 that all congregationswill be hearing the same local needs talk this week as sent by the wbts.. i would like to know if anyone has had their service meeting yet and what it was about..

They need more free labor because they can not afford to use any of the untold millions in real estate sales from the Brooklyn Heights properties to hire outside contractors. This is basically a "we need your free labor now, screw everything else" talk.

Former Elders? What did you not like about serving as an elder?

a few of my pet peeves were:.

the po/cobe knowing that he needed to have an elders meeting after the meeting but not telling any other elders.

humm, but his wife knew.

I haaated when the PO/CoBE Secretary and SO would met and make decisions and then tell the rest of the "body" they went ahead and made the decision.

I hated when people would talk about an issue before coming to the meeting and form an aliance to get there view across

This must be an issue on every single body of elders. lol

In Revelation, why is one verse to be taken literally and the other figuratively?

why is the great crowd in rev.7:9, standing before the throne mind you, to be taken figuratively and on earth if the same description (before the throne) in rev.

14:3 is used in a literal sense and in heaven?.

Because they are all standing before god's throne in heaven. All Christians are destined for that hope not the dual hope the WTS promotes.

as most of us know, the society is spending 10's of millions of dollars on a giant, state of the art, secluded bunker country club headquarters in very remote, isolated warwick ny.. the question that "some" have is, why?

if armageddon is coming "very soon", why go to all that time & effort & expense?

why have thousands of jws dedicating their time to this massive effort instead of the "lifesaving ministry"?.

What Is The "Typical" Elder In The Organization Like Now?

when i was an elder, most of the elders were pretty independent 40 to 80 year olds.

they had no issue speaking up to the circuit overseer.

i wonder what the average elder is like now.

I guess it depends on where you are. In my cong there are 10 and all but 3 are in 50+ many congs in the curcuit are like that. I would imagine most of the congs in Florida are in the 65+ elders category.

Elders today vary. Some are company (yes) men through and through and some do still mouth off to the CO.

let's pause a moment and consider the actual history of the watchtower society.. until his death, pastor c.t.russell was the driving force behind the publication of the watchtower.

russell controlled it and made provisions in his will for what would happen to the watchtower in the event of his death.

russell's writings, theology, teachings, predictions and intentions were attractive to those who joined his bible students movement.. fred franz signed on as a baptised adherent of russellism in 1913 because he was strongly attracted and persuaded by russell's message.. franz knew russell for three years until the pastor's death in 1916.. franz was ambitious to become a presbyterian minister.

Interesting post. You seem to be correct and since 1992 (when Franz died) the remaining GB have been scrambling to deal with all his theological b/s. The new GB aka F&D Slave have been making so many drastic changes lately. Something has to crack eventually. I really wish there would be a mass exodus of JWs. I'd join them

A question for elders and former elders who have served on JCs

based on your experience of judicial committees, how would you advise someone who is due to meet with the elders and has asked for the best way to avoid being disfellowshipped?

is denying everything ever a successful strategy?

does addressing a letter to the elders threatening legal action if they disfellowship ever work?

exactly what everyone said, repentance. and don't ever say that you feel bad you got caught, or for yourself. Always say that you let Jehovah down and you feel so guilty about it.

Why do all the COs have food intolerances/allergies/special dietary requirments?

it's a well known phenomenon i've observed from jwn, my own cos. a new co we had once who was fresh from being a normal elder and after a couple of visits he said, "well i've finally become a true co...i now have food intolerances.".

i mean, only once did my husband and i ever have a co around for dinner and they couldn't eat this, he couldn't eat that, she couldn't eat this...it was so hard to cook something with none of the zillions of things they were 'allergic' to.. and then after all that the wife couldn't come anyway because she had a naturopath appointment or something.. why do all co's seem to have weird dietary problems?.

Its all bullshit, they act like diva's because they can because the brothers want to be servants or elders and if you're already an elder then they want assembly or convention parts. The CO's know that they can ask for this, not eat that, etc. because they know that these brothers want to rim their asses
