What's the deal with this? Could it be related to the rumored reduction of the ammount of DC's for next year here in thr U.S.? Elders in the northeast (i assume other area's as well) received a letter inviting them to a "special" meeting 2-3 weeks ago to discuss hospitality at Int'l DC's to be held next summer. Anyone know the scoop?

WT's 2 BOE Letters Flip-Flop!
by JW GoneBad ineveryone knows about the recent across-the-board okay to use electronic devices in jw worship.
few, though, know about how not long ago it was considered a taboo.. first, there was that dc talk a couple of years back where they nearly demonized simply the ownership of a smart phone, ipads (i phones, blackberries, etc) let alone the use of them at meetings.
they brought out that they were a waste of time, expensive and that they exposed a christian to satan's world on the internet.

Its not a flip flop but more of what jw07 stated, the GB didnt realize how prevalant tablet useage has become and prices (for Android tabs anyway) are at rock bottom so it isnt unreasonable to have at least 1 tablet if not more in a family. Speaking from a use prespective I love love using my tablet at the meetings, it makes it more bearable.

The Signs of the Declines
by Londo111 inabout the circuit i grew up in:.
last decade, a congregation was dissolved.. last year, about a half a dozen or so congregations meeting in a double-hall got re-orged and it works out to one less congregation.
they received all new territories, bodies of elders, publishers.

To be fair, foreign language congregations (e.g., Thai speaking) are flourishing.
This might be due in part to the cultures of these congregations. They may be treating the truth like a social club where they can maintain their country of origin's language and association. Which works until it dawns on them that they have, in fact, joined a cult.

The murmuring phase is the beginning of an ex-JWs progression towards fading.
by Stand for Pure Worship ini suppose part of the fascination i have with this board is, the exotic nature of those making up the member population.
i say exotic because, as you yourselves will agree with, folks such as yourselves don't hang around the christian congregation for long upon making the decision that truth is not for you.
(rom 1:25) this "fading" thing spoken of here likely plays a role into why christians such as me find the average ex-jw to be a bit fascinating.

SFPW people like you fascinate me. You would be vilified for even viewing this board let alone actually signing up and posting on it. Yet you come here and post how great "pure worship" is. Why do you do it? Bored? Looking for answers? Just curious

Why does it matter?
by tenyearsafter ini have been on this forum for a number of years now, and one thing that seems to be a persisting theme is the "battle" between atheists and believers.. what i have not understood is the extent to which the supporters of either side engage in showing their position to be the correct one...and in turn debunking and demeaning the opposing position, or in many cases, insulting the intelligence of the holder of opposing belief.
i guess the simple question is, why?
does it really matter, or cause harm to be a supporter of either side of the coin?

The organization is worried about the future finances. Making the literature cost as a voluntary donation back in he early 90's here in the U.S. wasnt a great move but they also realized that they had all that prime real estate( not kidding like 100's of millions of dollars) in Brooklyn to fall back on so they survived.
Now that they are selling this "financial cushion" to fund their Warwick project they must realize that they need to rely more on donations. Lets be honest now, where has most of the $$$ come from historically in times past for the org? So called industrialzed countries i.e. United States, United Kingdom, Japan, etc. all of whom memberships are either stagnating or on decline slowly, I am certain that generally speaking people are donating less and less in these places hence all the "loving reminders" we have been recieving lately to give give give and volunteer volunteer volunteer .
Other poorer publishers from other countries can not afford to donate as much, sad fact but true. I am sure that they are very worried about their financial future long term.

I think it is probably intended to be a routine reminder. "We never ask for donations like the world does. But Jehovah loves you when you contribute to his organization."
Routine reminders are given in the WT and a service meeting part not an official Letter

There is usually a call out for donations at this time of the year because of the tax season. I would expect that there is a WT article also for the same reason
True but I have never seen a letter to the elders such as this regarding money. This really has to do with the Warwick , NY project and the fact that they probably aren't taking in as much from the WWW from the congregations. Back in the later 80's early 90's Patterson was VERY well funded but this probably isn't the case with Warwick. They need money, and your free labor (there was a letter regarding volunteering several weeks ago).

Re: Donations to worldwide work and Kingdom Hall construction worldwide
Dear Brothers:
We would like to express our deep appreciation for your ongoing generous support of Kingdom interests around the world. The contributions received for the worldwide work and for Kingdom Hall construction worldwide help to provide much needed spiritual comfort during the "critical times" in which we live.—2 Tim. 3:1.
Many of you are experiencing the effects of these critical times in your personal and family life. In Satan’s unjust, wicked world, it has become a struggle for some to obtain life’s basic needs. Despite these circumstances, your love for Jehovah and his organization moves you to contribute "with a complete heart." (1 Chron. 29:9) Just as Jesus took note of the widow’s donation of two small coins, Jehovah appreciates your gifts, knowing that you are motivated by love.—Luke 21:1-4.
This giving spirit is in sharp contrast to the selfish attitude of those in the world around us. While many spend their resources on personal pleasures and on enriching their own lives, you faithful ones have put the needs of others ahead of your own. One way this is accomplished is by your monetary contributions that support the printing, translation, and distribution of publications that draw attention to the ‘life-giving water’ found in God’s Word, the Bible. (Rev. 22:17) Following the example of the first-century Christians, you also consider it a joy to contribute for the purpose of assisting your brothers in need, such as those affected by recent disasters. (Acts 2:45, 46) All of these efforts are largely supported by your donations to the worldwide work and to Kingdom Hall construction worldwide.
May Jehovah continue to richly bless your hard work and loyal service as you generously support Kingdom interests.
