Seriously though, I lately I can really catch up on my day dreaming 3 times a week (yes unfortunately I still go to all of them for the sake of family)

by that, i mean, some witnesses will not just now "out" themselves because of various fears and concerns.
some of us are still "in the closet".
so to speak, because we're not ready to expose ourselves to the "loving brothers", just yet---at least not 100 %.
Actually I would consider myself in a figurative crawl-space or attic instead of a closet. I hoping to move to a closet soon though....
take a look at this wt excerpt from another thread that i copied and pasted:.

jehovah?s witnesses, in their eagerness for jesus?
Take a look at this WT excerpt from another thread that I copied and pasted:
*** g93 3/22 Why So Many False Alarms? ***
Jehovah?s Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus? second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this, some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions ?in the name of Jehovah.? Never did they say, ?These are the words of Jehovah.? The Watchtower, the official journal of Jehovah?s Witnesses, has said: "We have not the gift of prophecy." (January 1883, page 425).....They are voicing expectations based on their own interpretation of some scripture text or physical event. They do not claim that their predictions are direct revelations from Jehovah and that in this sense they are prophesying in Jehovah?s name. Hence, in such cases, when their words do not come true, they should not be viewed as false prophets such as those warned against at Deuteronomy 18:20-22. In their human fallibility, they misinterpreted matters.
If we fully apply what was said in that article then all JW's have good reason to view what the WT says as skeptical and possibly not true dont you think? They basically admit that in some cases "words do not come true" in the WT.
I wonder if the guy in the writing dept. who wrote that was demoted to the book bindery for admiting this one.
its my experience after actually being an elder for a number of years that there are in fact...two types of elder.. type 1....genuine, actually cares about the people in the congregation and wasn't actually bothered too much if he became an elder or not.. type 2....very legalistic, cares more about organizational laws rather than people and lacks compassion and empathy.
this type is more of a spiritual policeman.
he wanted desperately to be an elder and now that he is, he loves the sense of power and prestige.. this has been my experience and if there are more type 2 elders on a body, the results can be disastrous.. what has been your experience???
Good assesment of the elder situation in most congregations.
Blondie "BTW, the elders are mean and abusive with each other too but you are supposed to take it for the same of unity on the body"
Too painfully true Blondie..many in the congregation dont even realize this is the case. In many congs. one elder controls the tone of the body. Its a throwback to the "company servant" days. They instituted bodys of elders back in the 70's but the old mentality is still alive and thriving in many areas. These type 2's usually become PO's or give the PO's a hard time and always seek to remove elders who dont "see things their way" Very sad and un-christlike.
i was just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this or perhaps a link to a previous thread.
jesus said the following according to the bible:.
mark 12:18-25 (nwt).
I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this or perhaps a link to a previous thread. Jesus said the following according to the bible:
Mark 12:18-25 (NWT)
18 Now Sadducees came to him, who say there is no resurrection, and they put the question to him: 19 "Teacher, Moses wrote us that if someone?s brother dies and leaves a wife behind but does not leave a child, his brother should take the wife and raise up offspring from her for his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, but when he died he left no offspring. 21 And the second took her, but died without leaving offspring; and the third the same way. 22 And the seven did not leave any offspring. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection to which of them will she be wife? For the seven got her as wife." 24 Jesus said to them: "Is not this why YOU are mistaken, YOUR not knowing either the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but are as angels in the heavens.
My question is: Didnt the angels still have sexual desires? In the Pre-flood account the angels forsook their proper dwelling place to have relations with the "daughters of men" correct? So it you were resurrected to be as an angel wouldn't the possibility of sexual urges surface.... particularly if you meet someone whom you had been previously married to?
What exactly did Jesus mean when he spoke to the sadducees? Any thoughts?
someone on this site mentioned they got a km off ebay that praised those that sold all their belongings and preached.. does anyone know which km that was?.
interesting, when going through the society's cd-rom i noticed that the drama for the district convention in 1975 was about noah's ark and was something along the lines of "there's still time left!
" (i'm paraphrasing).. -dm
Jeanniebeanz: "I knew families who went out in 1975 and charged their credit limits to the maximum because they thought they'd never have to pay it off. Never saw so many sports cars, expensive jewelry, and dinners out in my life.
Sure enough, by 1977 many of these families were facing bankruptcy."
I am in no way condoning what the WT did re. 1975 but it is not their fault that people were stupid as mentioned in the above quote. To do that was entirely ridiculous and it is their fault, no one elses. My parents thought 1975 would be the end as well but I dont recall them doing this.
with the latest insider news regarding the awake magazine going to a monthly publication, now would be a good time to examine a brief history of how jehovah has blessed the organization by simplifying it.
1993 paid for literature went to donation-based literature.
mid 1990s no food at assemblies and conventions.
If I remember correctly the "simplification" to donation arrangement took place before 1993... I would say more like 1990-1991.
Excellent summarization Truthseeker.
for going to my kid's wedding.
he was told he was not "serious", had no "self-control" and "did not work well with the body".
Appointed by holy spirit my arse right Minimus??? The whole Elder system is a sham.
i remember back 8 years ago when i left the organization the elders were being called "jehovah's special appointed ones".
i thought to myself that this was starting to become a clergy class.
i mean if that doesn't set you about the rest of the flock, i don't know what does.
Proplog:
The responsibilities of shepherding the flock are too burdensome to be peformed properly by part-time servants. The best teachers are side lined because they have to earn a living and take care of their families.
There is nothing unscriptural or inherently evil about having paid church workers. And I don't mean $100 per month . How about a living wage. The idea of - you receive free-give free doesn't mean truth is cheap. Think about that last "free ware" you tried to run on your computer.
So true..... it is burdensome. As I have said in other posts, many people complain that there was lack of love and concern from the elders. While I do not deny nor justify that, I can honestly say that most elders need help themselves and that is the honest truth. Take comfort if you must, that while you were suffering and ignored they were also suffering while undergoing similiar sorts of things, to fully understand that you'd have to sit in a long, boring elders meeting with 5 or 6 others some of whom actually believe the crap they are dishing out. So you actually should be happy that someone as messed up as you didnt try to pretend he knew how to help.
To answer yes they do have a clergy class but not in the classical sense. If elders were paid I actually believe they would perform better. They would be better at dishing out the propoganda that is.
well, i came across a couple of interesting pieces of news yesterday, that i thought you would all find encouraging.
while i was standing in line at macdonald?s yesterday morning, i ran into a couple of jws from the other side of town.
they were up in my area because (not surprisingly) they were laying tiles at a local bar and the work had to be done on sunday morning.
In our area the the trend in meeting attendance is becoming somewhat more "mainstream" Sundays are good TMS/Service Meetings and Bookstudies are in decline. As an example in one cong. I know of the Sunday attendance is 90-100 regularly. The evening meetings, around 65-75. Where are the other 30 people? They are realizing that there is a lot to do on Tuesday or Thursday nights instead of the meeting.
Becoming more mainstream like other religions that they bash as "Sunday church-goers"
