"..knee deep in this sh*t ..."
So true, and for some, chest deep and its very difficult to pull yourself out too.
jesus says in matthew 11:28-30 "come to me, all you who are toiling and loaded down, and i will refresh you.
29 take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for i am mild-tempered and lowly in heart, and you will find refreshment for your souls.
30 for my yoke is kindly and my load is light.?

why am i surprised on reading the latest watchtower, the april 15 2005?
i had thought that the wtbts would at least be cautious in making its prophecies now.
surely after over 100 years of failed prophecy you might be a bit more careful, or would you?.
Carrot dangling... absolutely... LOL
As long as you work hard for the org. you can get everlasting life!

Is the JW lifestyle refreshing, kind, and light? Afterall they do claim to be christians and follow christ correct?
Lets break it down: 5 meetings a week (generally 3 times a week), Field Service Saturday morning (Sundays too if you want to be an Elder or not looked down upon), 2 assemblies per year, 1 district convention. If you are an elder or MS add to this various additional meetings, shepherding calls, quick builds or other KH construction projects. If you are married, especially with kids, you have to find the time to spend with them, study with your kids (this is also a JW requirement for family heads), mow your lawn, clean your house.... basically normal things that your "worldy" neighbor does while you are out knocking on empty doors on Saturday morning. So he is waving at you sitting on his deck with a beer while you mow your lawn at 1PM in the hot sun after service. Finally the constant pressure from CO's, elders, the magazines to actually do more!
Ok... sorry for venting. So refreshing? Kind? Light? Comments anyone?
gina and i were talking about this last night.
do any of you that are currently serving as elders ever serve on jc's?
is it something you can opt out of and still be an elder?.
you can opt out of a JC, although you can't do it repeatedly without raising some suspicions, or at least some questions.
Excatcly... you can only say no so many times. I have served on 3 since doubting. It isnt fun let me tell you, I almost wanted to cry in one of them. Fortunately the other brothers were not cruel either so it was bearable and I didn't have to speak up and say anything suspicious to defend the accused.
i know there's a lot of elder bashing here.
most of it is quite justified.
i'm curious as to whether all your dealings with the elders were horrible.
The good ones are not treated well by the bad ones. I have seen 10 good elders in this circuit have the rug pulled out from under them. The ones that remain are hatchet men and cowards. I have heard several good ones just throw in the towel, staying elders but doing as little as possible staying out of the way of the steamrolling ones.
Blondie how do you have so much insight? You are 100% absolutely dead on with this comment. Especially calling the remaining ones hatchet men and cowards. These are the ones who suck the CO's behind and call them for every little detail about every little issue that arises in the congregation for fear that they are found out for who they are. It truly is disgusting to say the least.
an elder told me the other day that the reason the society is making the awake!
magazine monthly, is to cut costs.
didn't tell me that the society were simplifying, or trying to make the awake more kingdom friendly.. nope, just cost cutting.
"but after leaving Bethel and talking with a few Circuit Overseers, I was surprised at how much they do not know about what goes on at Headquarters."
I think that many of them do but do not say anything. Some elders are masters at making others believe what they themselves do not, trust me, I know. Its a classic case of "not biting the hand that feeds you" especially with CO's and DO's and many Bethelites. I have a feeling that there are higher ups who are doubting but would have nowhere to go if they went public. The WT is an insidious trap... some stay for family and thats the only reason, some because if they left at age 50+ what would they do?
ever notice how the "happiest people on earth" are also the most class-oriented?
to say that jesus said his followers should all be on equal footing, it's incredible how much the r&f witness is not on equal footing.
the social structure in the congregation is more complex than the blueprints of a nuclear warhead, but just so that you "remember your place", see if you can find where your niche was/is:
I was #2 on the list with a high "intimidation factor" toward ahole elders and a "protect the flock" complex. Ditto, and I still am. I once slammed the current PO so bad that he walked out of our meeting without even praying...LOL. What an a**hole! He is tight with the CO though so its only a matter of time for me... at least I hope.
typically, what life does a jw lead?
witnesses relish the thought that they are "different" from the rest of the "world"......how so???
?
Looking at themselves in a mirror and seeing a person that they are as opposed to a person they really want to be. A sad life... ...
i mean, is it just me or is there a noticable increase in such over the last few months?.
it would appear too, that it isn't going to let up anytime soon.
odds are there will be even more.. but why?
I think the new blood directives and so many programs on television regarding sexual abuse in the org. are some big factors. This and also the internet. They can no longer hide information.
what happens to a person that has given a major portion of the thier life in decades of full time service at bethel or as a circut or district overseer and they get caught not beleiveing the teachings of the wt?.
will the governing body live up to its moral obligation to take care of them in their old age?
after all these people have claimed a vow of poverty, and have put very little money aside for retirement because they served the organization full time and had no money to put aside.
I can't speak for all of the CO's or DO's of course but we would be fooling ourselves if we didn't realize that these guys actually make a lot of cash "under the table". Sometimes I used to give $50-100 to the CO's when they came buy, imagine if say 20 people/families did that, thats $500-1000 per congregation and they have approx. 20-30 per circuit. Remember this is non-taxable cash and they have all of their expenses paid by the congregations that they visit and the branch pays their medical, dental and they get a new car every 3 yrs or so and a free place to stay. Not too bad if you ask me. If they save or invest well they can actually have a decent retirement.
To actually respond to your thread though (sorry for sort of going off subject) yes it is cruel that they have done that. Its really the opposite of what christ said to do for elderly and infirmed, widows, etc. isn't it?
