  Who has sayings of everlasting life?

  despite all the problems i have had with many people in the jehovah's witness's religion, i would not know the basic truths that i have learned if it were not for jehovah's witness's.. the hope that learned, i still have; though i no longer attend the meetings i miss the meetings, personal and family problems that really no one other than god him self can fully understand at that time so many years ago.. i know now that i have atemped in the past to haave the brothers and sisters to understand what i my self could not grasp about my problems that perplexed me beyond what i could deal with.. sense that time i have also learned that it really is jehovah that i should render my service to and no one else, it him i must fuloly rely on for aid compleatly not humans.. thanks, pepper

  You will find that many things that you call ‘basic truths’ from the JWs are neither scriptural nor reasonable once you examine them in detail. Things like 1914, the faithful and discreet slave [as JWs teach], who lives and who dies, who will not get resurrected, when the last days started etc.

  I would recommend you read both of Ray Franz’s books [links below], they will give you a much more encouraging point of view to think about compared to what you were allowed to know as a JW. The answers will come—just not all at once.

  Get Crisis of Conscience first if you can.

  Hi, I am new to this board

  my name is jessi, i am 24 and new to this site.

  i spent the last hour or so reading some of the posts and wow!

  i think i am in the right place.. a brief bio, i was raised as a "full" second generation witness (my grandmother converted) but always knew that i didn't want to be a witness.

  Welcome Jessi:

  Knowledge is power, and the more you learn about the Watch Tower organisation the more you will see that God isn’t using them and never was. This will help a lot with the anxiety and panicky feelings.

  Have you read any of Ray Franz’s books? He was in the Governing Body for 9 years, and gives an account of all he saw and experienced there. His books [2 of them] would help you also see that they are nothing more than a man made organisation just the same as many others, and would help heal you from your childhood indoctrination.

  crisis of conscience, or in search of christian freedom - which do you recommend if i was only to buy one of the two?

  If you can, get both. Crisis of Conscience is more exposing the Watch Tower, and In Search of Christian Freedom is more about the doctrines and how many of them are not scriptural at all. I think both need reading more than once. If money is a problem I would buy In Search of Christian Freedom, and get Crisis of Conscience from your local library. In Search of Christian Freedom is a thick book [732 pages] and really needs to be around for references. Or maybe you could get both from the library, and then decide after you have read them if you wish to buy them for your own personal reference copies. (Beware the library versions may be old editions)

  The latest version [2000] of Crisis of Conscience has quotes up to June 2000, so make sure you get that one and not an older version. (Amazon.com list it as 1999, but when mine came it was the second printing of the third edition, which was 2000)

  letter writing is just one of the many ways that we can do witnessing.

  i have known of sisters and brothers that went through the newspaper looking for obituaries (death announcements) and researched the family members then wrote them a brief letter included the brochure "when someone you love dies".

  in doing this some have started bible studies.

  That is disgusting—sounds on a similar line to Ciro Aulicino’s talk last year after Sept. 11th. How to latch onto the grieving and vulnerable.

  Funny how they always go for the weak, grieving, depressed, lonely, insecure, all the people who are open to being manipulated and sucked in with ‘love bombing’ and indoctrination. I see they [The Watch Tower] never pride themselves on making converts with the intellectuals, university professors, or scholars, it’s always the weak and vulnerable—or those experiencing trauma an distress, the very ones who have little power to reason clearly.

  Reading that quote reminded me of the film Paper Moon, where Tatum O'Neal puts her cutie face on and seeks out the grieving relatives, so she and her dad [Ryan O'Neal] can sell them a gilded and named Bible! The poor grieving widows are so messed up they just give in and pay.

  It’s so sickening to see the Watch Tower and JWs use such repugnant manipulative techniques to get converts.

  Yardirf already knew that, he was just looking for an excuse to insult me—pathetic behaviour from him, but then why would he do otherwise and break a life time habit?

Not only that, but your sickening merciless joy—yes joy—in the prospect of death, destruction, and mayhem to billions of people who haven’t a clue what you, or the JWs even stand for—let alone what Jesus represents!

  I didn’t read them all, but I suppose the Watch Tower is happy it was right on some things. Aluminium has been linked with Alzheimer’s disease, and has progressively been fazed out of cooking utensils; Aluminium it’s a known cellular toxin. There was a case a few years back where many were poisoned with an accidental spill of aluminium sulphate in the water supply in Cornwall [West England]:

  As for vaccinations, they also have a poison in them [mercury] that is coming to light, it’s called thimerosal, and has many links to autism, and brain damage—although when the Golden Age was first screaming about the ‘evils’ of vaccines it wasn’t used in them [1920s].   Queen Mother passes away.

  buckingham palace has confirmed that her majesty the queen mother passed away peacefully in her sleep this afternoon.. she was a wonderful lady.

  Creation Story Contradiction

  the two different creation stories in genesis contradict each other in the matter of the order of the creation of man and vegetation.

  in the first story, vegetation was created on the third day, and three days later man was created.

  however, in the second creation story, there was no vegetation before man.

  Well… I really don’t see how anyone would interpret Genesis 1:6–10 as anything but the differing formation of land from sea. There is no elaboration on irrigation for plants. “And God said: ‘Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear.’ And it was so. God called the dry ground ‘land’, and the gathered waters he called ‘seas’. And God saw that is was good.”—Gen. 1:9, 10

  All that is being described Joseph is the formation of land, just like when a new Hawaiian island appears in the pacific. The earth/magma level has to rise above sea level to become a separate boundary, a boundary commonly known as ‘dry land’, and the water as the sea.

  Nemesis argues that this account does not specifically say that the gathered waters irrigated the land, but how else could the vegetation have grown in Verse 11 if the land wasn't irrigated by the gathered waters in Verse 10?

  As said Joseph, the gathering is simply the separation and the distinction between dry land and sea. The irrigation would come later in the same manner as described in the second account: “But streams came up from the surface and watered the whole surface of the ground.”—Gen. 2:6

  As for Elohim/Yahweh, I don’t think that is relevant for the questions your poised, whether plants came before man, and then when/how plants grew, as the ‘dry’ period is clearly separate from the plant growth period—Genesis 1:9, 10; 2:4, 5.
