"Maybe I am disgruntled. Maybe I have a bad attitude. Maybe I'm also old, fat and ugly. None of that has anything to do with whether what I am telling you about your organization is true or not. It's just a form of well-poisoning, in which you believe that you can dismiss anything that I say based on my personal characteristics rather than on the merits of my argument. The question is whether you are a lover of truth. If what I say is true, it doesn't matter what sort of person I am - you should believe the truth that I am telling you. Do you want to know what the truth really is or would you rather simply swallow whole whatever the organization tells you?"

Do Ex-JWs have reason to be disgruntled?
by sabastious ineverytime i have ever told an active jw about this forum and described it's designation they all, in essence, say the same thing.. they say that we are nitpickers, that we are all just rubbed the wrong way and can't get out of the state of disgruntlement that we have allowed ourselves to enter.
some throw in supernatural elements some just stick to human imperfection and call it murmurings.. these kind of assertions highly imply that our anger is exaggerated or misguided; that we don't have all facts and are drawing highly speculative conclusions.. as participants on this forum how do you refute such a claim?.
my first thought would be to point out that "murmurings" is what created the watchtower to start with.

Simplified Watchtower in English?
by munchausen inlast wed night they read an announcement that there would be an english edition of the watchtower in simplified english.
has there been a discussion on this, or has this letter been read elsewhere than the us?
i would never have guessed that the wt could be 'dumbed down' any more than it is already.

I thought the publications had always been in simplified English.

by brotherdan indoes anyone have any articles from outside media sources about the 1975 wt scandal that were written before or just after 1975?
i wanted to put that type of article side by side with the article regarding the may 2011 rapture prediction and see how they were similar.. does anyone have any of these outside news items about 1975?.

JWs are in constant trouble with the law. The reason given was the refusal of military service not on the grounds of conscientious objection, but because they said they are exempt because they are all ministers. I wonder why they wouldn't use conscientious objection?
Under the draft laws as they existed in the USA in the late 60's and early 70's, conscientious objectors were required to do alternative civilian service, usually at jobs where they could replace workers who would be able to enter combat service. JW's were, of course, forbidden to do such alternative service at the time. Ministers, on the other hand, received a complete deferment. Typically, regular pioneers and "congregation servants" (equivalent of today's CoBoE) could receive ministerial deferments. Other JW's could get CO status at best.

Luk 21:8 And he said, "See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is at hand!' Do not go after them.

End of the world is May 21, 2011
by observador inhi guys,.
have you heard of this group?
take a look at the article.. it's amazing that journalists don't even mention the jw organization in this type of article, despite a rich history of this type of prediction and the number of followers in the us... just shows how irrelevant this organization has become.. article here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110103/ap_on_re/us_rel_apocalypse_soon.

Harold Camping also predicted the return of Christ for 1994, so we are already dealing with a "revised" chronology. Oops.

Does WikiLeaks have any Scoop on the WTBTS to be released?
by cameo-d insince wl deals with documented facts, not merely rumors and speculations.....what would you most like to see documented and revealed about the watchtower, the gb members, or the wt true agenda?.
if you could ask wl to dig up information about any curiosity you have concerning this cult....what would you have them investigate?.
do you think there is any information that will be released concerning religions and cults?.

I'd like to see a comparitive psykological analysis between people living in the JW Org., and people living in mariage with an abusive psychopath.
How about those who had to do both at the same time?

Scriptural proof on elders
by Joey Jo-Jo inhi,.
is there any scriptural proof that the word elder in the ot and nt can refer to people of any age that have a duty of responsibility.
i believe it only refers to people of old age with wisdom but the insight book is trying to say otherwise, their scriptures quoted do not really point out to any real evidence.. .

Timothy was both a young man and an elder, was he not? Sorry, I'd quote some passages, but I'm staying in a hotel over the holiday weekend, and my laptop doesn't have my Bible software on it.

Christmas visit from the elders
by MrFreeze inyes the elders made another stop to continue to try to get me back to the meetings.
my main argument with them has been the incorrect dates.
607, 1914. they said i need to stop focusing on dates.

He probably had his own secret sin which he was trying to conceal, and couldn't imagine that someone else wouldn't be the same.
LOL good point. That actually never occurred to me.

During the discussion they were trying to dig into the reasons for me leaving. It couldn't possibly be the teachings! They asked, "Is it a girl? Is it drugs? Is it alcohol?" No on all three, except the third. In that case however, Jehovah's Witnesses have driven me to alcohol. They also used the opportunity to bash on Christmas. Another fun discussion with these "shepherds".
I had a similar experience with a trainee CO. He came by with the regular CO to "help" me with my "doubts" and instead tried to grill me about what sort of secret sin I was trying to conceal/justify by pretending I had doubts about Jehovah's organization. He just couldn't comprehend the idea that someone might have ACTUAL DOUBTS about the organization.
