I would disagree with your assessment, Vanderhoven7. Actually, Deuteronomy 18 does not say anything about someone claiming to speak under inspiration, at least not in those terms. The conditions are two: 1) the prophet speaks in the name of YHWH and 2) the thing prophesied does not come to pass. The WTS certainly fits this description, and therefore does qualify as a false prophet in the biblical sense. They have repeatedly stated that they 'act as a prophet' in the last days. That being the case, the only question left to evaluate is whether they act as a true prophet or a false prophet. their histiry clearly points to the latter.

Predictions and Prophecies
by snowbird inif i state that the 2012 presidential election race is going to be a tight one, is that a prediction or a prophecy?.
when you utter a prophecy, don't you prophesy that something will happen, not that something may happen?.
also, doesn't this have to be based on no prior knowledge or insider information?.

Important News About the Witnesses Now for Jesus Convention
June 28,2011 This will be the 33rd year of the Witnesses Now for Jesus convention held every October in PA - and Joan Cetnar says she will probably not be hosting one after this year - so we would like to see EVERYONE there who has ever attended and have a big reunion! Call the retreat center for reservations - Blue Mountain Christian Retreat in New Ringgold, PA (570-386-2154). Joan already has her program together and it's sure to be great as always! The old meeting building has burned down but things are going well in another building they're using!!!! May the Lord bless this convention in a Mighty Way as He always does.
It has been reported to me that Joan is willing to see the convention continue if someone is willing to step up to the plate and take it over. She said one of the reasons for stopping is that, with the Internet, the attendance numbers have been down since people are able to find information on line (and confidentially). She hopes to go on facebook and take part in forums, do ministry etc., online.
My feeling is that, as great a source of information as the Internet is, it doesn't provide the intimacy and fellowship of the sort of personal interaction that is experienced at gatherings such as WNFJ. We certainly hope someone will be in a position to take over and maintain the tradition. -

Grace, word has come to me that this will probably be Joan's last year of hosting the PA convention (I'll be posting separately on that shortly), so if there's anything we can do to get you there, it would be nice to have a big reunion just in case nobody picks up the torch.

JW teenagers party's
by bigmac ini fondly remember my teenage days as a jw--back in the 1960's.. circuit assemblies-in birmingham, england uk.
after the sunday afternoon god-fest there was usually a party--somewhere--in the evening.. one of the lads--his parents were care-takers (janitors?
) of an office block in the city centre.

Between 1950 and 1959 the word ELDER appeared 37 times.
Between 1960 and 1969 the word ELDER appeared 24 times.
Between 1970 and 1979 the word ELDER appeared 446 times.
Remember that during the 1950s and 1960s they didn't use the term "elder" and considered it a clergy title like "Reverend" or "Father." It only makes sense that they started using it a lot more when they decided it was OK to apply the term to their own people.

When I was 16, I got a job pumping gas at the gas station across the street from my house. It was the least stressful, most fun I've ever had in a job. I have a ton of great memories of that place.
I still have a bit of the JW mentality in that I consider my job to be something I do to support the things I really want to do in life. My job isn't my life, and I've never had a job that I loved so much that the money became irrelevant. I wish it could be like that, but I've never been able to achieve it. My goal in getting a job now is to make enough money to keep afloat while enduring the least possible aggravation. That's why I gave up management years ago in favor of sales. I could surely make more money as a manager, but I refuse to work the 60 hour weeks, on call weekends, etc.

What musical groups or songs were bad according to JWs?

were any specifically mentioned from the platform or were you counseled not to listen to a certain song?
for me it was the entire def leopard hysteria album - bad heavy metal told it was demonic, i listened to it in secret, silk's "freak me" - a virgin listening to a song about hot sex?

In 1970, my regular pioneer application was turned down because I listened to the Beatles' music (and read comic books).
A year or two after that, an elder informed me and my friend that we shouldn't listen to Santana albums because "Santana" is a feminine form of "Satan." He didn't seem too fazed when we told him that Santana was actually the guy's name.

Society's claim of "Peace and Security" fulfilled by George Bush Sr.
by RubaDub ini recall about 25 years ago that at the district assembly, it was mentioned that the fulfillment of the declaration of "peace and security" was made by president george bush (sr.).
was this just a verbal thing or was there anything written in any of the publications about it at that time?.
rub a dub.

Let's not forget 1974, when President Nixon resigned and, in his inaugural speech, the incoming President Gerry Ford promised, "truth, peace and security." Those words formed the headlines in a major newspaper, which I believe I still have a copy of somewhere. The Witnesses, of course, went nuts.

Kingdom Hall Librarys : Can you still Veiw Older Publications ?eg:Russells,Rutherfords books ?? or even books from the ~50s
by smiddy ini`m just curious if such books as "life everlasting in freedom of the sons of god " " let your will be done on earth" etc.
are still available in the kingdom hall libraries and if they are then that should be a wake up call to all jehovah`s witnesses.. if they are not then that should be an even bigger wake up call to all jehovah`s witnesses.
the bible has never been altered in 2000 years under the direction of holy spirit.

Of course, if you aren't a member of the congregation and want to walk into the KH library and start researching older pubs, they will probably want to know why.

There was one CO - I think his name was DaCinti or something like that - who would end every talk with a threat of death at Armageddon if you didn't follow whatever he was ranting about. He would somehow bring the topic around to the first hours in the New System, then put his hand above his brow as if looking into the distance, and he'd say "On that day, we don't want anybody saying of US, 'Say, has anybody here seen brother or sister so-and-so?'" In other words, 'do what I say or you won't be there.' He was also a pretty nasty guy apart from that, as I recall. A real so-and-so...
