several years ago, whenever i got a talk slip i would get really nervous but accept it and work on it almost immediately.
of course that was way back when i still believed it all.. now they gave me a #3 talk out of the blue about a month ago and i had forgotten all about it till the meeting night.
i really thought about not showing up at all but at the last minute, i decided to go.. so when i got there the meeting had already started and so i just stayed in the back looked at the info, found 2 scriptures and then without any notes i went up and gave the stupid talk!.
I've always been a decent public speaker - certainly better than the average JW - so I rarely practiced for short talks. I would spend about 45 minutes, usually on the night before or the afternoon of the talk, preparing the information. Then I'd just stand up and give it. Because I was actually a little creative, adding a story as an illustration or something like that, I received a lot of praise from the congregation members.
One technique I used as a JW that set me apart (though some COs and DOs used it too) was to address the audience in the second person. The usual technique in the JWs is to speak in the first person (e.g., "Are we spending enough time in Bible study?"). I have found that doing so actually makes the statement less forceful. The speaker is presumably speaking because he knows something that the audience does not, or because he seeks to offer advice to the audience that they need. There's nothing wrong with addressing the audience as "you," and doing so makes the impact on the hearer more direct and personal. I don't think anyone actually noticed that I was doing that, but they certainly liked my talks.

In the past, when publications have gone out of print (pre-internet) at this time of year, it often meant that a replacement was going to be released at the summer conventions. That would be interesting; perhaps they would attempt to address some of the many refutations that have been aimed at that brochure. Or, maybe they will just try to use quotations in a less obviously dishonest way.
ok ,so this is my story , this jw girl came on vacation in my country as a friend of my girl-cousin who is not a jw but were classmates at uni .
my cousin introduced her to me but she didnt tell me that she was a jw from the very first moment we flirt each other.we went on beach ,on bars ,cafes etc and she acted so wordly ,in fact i thought she could be a good one night stand with her behaviour .never saw anything weird about her that could lead me to question something, with the peak in the club where we danced together while hugging very passionatly .
i tried to kiss her that night but she kept her distance , i didnt notice any bad on that.anyway, next day we flirt again at the the beach and at night too .

This is a girl who started out not being honest and up front with you. She didn't tell you she was a JW, and made up phony reasons why you couldn't be together instead of simply telling you the truth. She waffles back and forth, now she wants you, now she doesn't. She has told you flat out that you have no future with her.
You asked us to give you something besides, "run," but I'm sorry - that is the correct answer. Even if the JW issue could be overcome (and trust me, it can't, unless she is having doubts about the organization), it doesn't sound like you would have a good relationship. The situation you have described is one of lies and duplicity - no way to start a relationship. There are tons of eligible women out there. Find one who will be honest with you.
I've been looking for a job for several months now, and I'm becoming more and more convinced that employers have gone off the deep end. Some of them seem to think they are Freud and they're going to ask you questions to psychoanalyze you ("What would your friends tell me about you if I talked to them?"). Some of the questions are just plain idiotic: "Tell me something that you wouldn't normally tell an interviewer on the first interview." Right, because I'm going to tell you something on the first interview that I actually wouldn't tell someone on the first interview! (I responded that I used to belong to a cult, which was a bad experience but I gained a lot of sales ability from it)
Whatever happened to just asking questions about your education and work history? Do all these fools actually have degrees in psychology, or have they just read some pop self-help books? It's insane...

i have been putting all my cds onto my new ipod.. i am only half way through this, and my hard disk is almost full, as itunes keeps the audio files on the computer.. every time i plug in my ipod, any tracks i have removed from my hard drive to make room for new music is deleted from the ipod.. i want to keep all the music on the ipod, and get rid of all the cds stored on my hard disk without them being removed form the ipod.. the instructions are so rudimentary i dont know what to do.
i am not prepared to buy yet another computer because of this.. help appreciated.. hb.
You don't need to buy another computer. For under $100 or so, you should be able to buy an external hard drive. I have two, one is 500 GB and the other is 2 terabytes (2000 GB). I use the 500 GB one to store my itunes library and the other one for backup purposes. If you implement this solution, you will have to designate the external drive in iTunes as your storage location, and then reload all your CDs.
there seems to be a double standard among ex-jw's who believe and practice christianity.. i have lost 3 subscribers from my youtube channel all because of speaking my mind, it was not invasive or rude, but my last two videos appeared to have offended them.. so what happened?
as an atheist i raised some issues regarding the mind set of christianity that it borrows from jw's, in other words i was showing christian ex-jw's that they are behaving just like jw's.
the double standard is simple to grasp:.
The door swings the other way too. As a Christian, I've had some ex-JW atheists defriend me on Facebook because they didn't like something that I posted that differed from their beliefs. The key is being willing to dialogue or remain friends with others even though you disagree in your beliefs. Unfortuantely, that is utterly contrary to what we were taught as JWs, and far too many ex-JWs of every persuasion simply haven't gotten it yet.
