Maybe Paulo is just trying to illustrate what the dead know, according to the JW application of Ecclesiastes 9:5.

Does anyone recognize this ex-JW testimony from WNFJ convention?
by peace_lily ini'm trying to find the testimony of a lady who spoke years ago at the witness now for jesus convention (i believe in pennsylvania).
she mentioned that her husband (i assume not a witness) came out as a homosexual during the years the org did not consider such to be grounds for divorce.
the elders advised her she didn't have grounds for divorce.

This will be my twelfth year attending, but I don't remember that particular testimony. Grace (Mouthy) was attending long before me, so maybe she will recall it. They do still have the conventions, but the word on the street is that this year may be the last. Joan Cetnar has been hosting the conventions for the past 33 years (with her husband Bill until his death), but she is saying that she does not think she will host another after this year. I haven't spoken with her directly, but my understanding is that she feels that with the Internet, there are plenty of sources for JW information out there now as well as other ways for ex-JWs to make contact, and conventions like this one are not as necessary as they once were. Because of this, attendance has been declining over the past several years. While I understand her point, I've found the personal contact and intimacy of these conventions to be far more meaningful than anything the Internet can offer. I have made some wonderful friends there, and I look forward to seeing them every year. The WNFJ convention has become as much a regular part of my life since leaving the JWs as is Christmas and other annual, family oriented events. I am hoping that someone is able to step in and continue the tradition; it will be a big disappointment to have this annual event disappear from my life.
If anyone is interested in attending this year, the convention will be held from Octiber 7-9 at Blue Mountain Christian Retreat (www.bmcr.org) in New Ringgold, PA.

Since You've Left The Organization Have You Turned Into A "Bad" Boy or Girl?
by minimus inthe witnesses say that if you leave the religion you will become a very vile person.
you will probably get vd.
you will get into drugs and booze, your life will go to hell.. personally, i've been pretty much the same guy although i would now be viewed as a "fornicator".

All you people who were talking about VD earlier...don't you mean "loathsome venereal diseases?"

We did the movie theater and Chinese food thing with friends. In fact, we still do that now (in addition to other means of Christmas celebration that we now enjoy). Somehow it just feels right.

Did you ever get stumped in the ministry?
by NewChapter ini got into a tiny discussion with a return visit about the cross.
i confidently informed her that the cross was a pagan symbol not used by christians.
the romans were pagans, so they used a pagan symbol.

A Trinitarian showed me John 20:28, where Thomas calls Jesus, "My Lord and My God." I had been a JW for the better part of 10 years and didn't even know that was in the Bible.

Saturdays piss me off...
by pubtruth inthanks to the watchtower... i have to deal with mother preparing herself for hall each and every saturday.
she makes it so blatantly obvious, and tends to put me down, on a sort of guilt trip.
even though she disagrees with certain doctrine she still holds on tight.... during the week she hums kingdom melodies.. only when i'm around... i need a damn job so i can move... just a small rant..

How do you know she doesn't hum them when you're not around?

Happifying? Real WT quote, or are we joking -
by james_woods inmaybe i just missed it, (the story of the word) - but i am seeing this word "happifying" in a lot of threads.. can it possibly be that the wt actually printed this??
?.

I note on the Urban Dictionary site that lists "happify" as a word, the #3 definition is "to pleasure oneself." That should shed some light on all the "happifying" being done at Bethel...

Did you fake underlining the WT?
by shepherd ini read on another topic " i remember when i used to carry microphones years ago in the jw cult- only about 30 % had their wt's pre-studied, the rest just wing it i truly believe" and it reminded me that people will assume you are not familiar with the material if you have not underlined, and that there will always be those who observe the lack of ink and consider you must be unprepared (and so 'weaker' than them).. many times i used to fake prestudy just for that reason.
its easy to do, underline a random sentence or 2 in each paragraph or the sited scripture.
you can wizz through an entire article in 3 minutes....did anyone else do that?.

Why fake it? You could underline the actual answers in not much more than 5 minutes.

So How Much Does the New World Translation Cost?
by AllTimeJeff inyou can't make this up.
i just got back from half price books around where i live...... .

I suspect it will be sitting there for quite a while at that price. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, that 4-volume large print edition is still in print from the WTS which means it can be obtained at no charge.
