What is the purpose of life?
by slimboyfat inwhile reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

Maybe this was the answer
But we all know that words can mean absolutely anything to you SBF. It must be nice living in la-la land.

2. God is both almighty and loving but the human mind is not equipped to understand how this is possible in a world with suffering.
Can anyone tell me any logical reason why the first must be true and the second cannot be true?
I think it may have been answered on cofty's thread
The Pastor of my Old Church Tried to Re-Convert Me Yesterday
I will reread it later

dealing with religion after leaving the witnesses
by joker ini’ve noticed many people posting on this site seem to have completely given up on religion/spirituality.. but some have attended services at another religion, or just follow their own heart regarding what to believe.. my question is how does anyone deal after leaving with all of the witness crap that we believed about babylon the great, the great harlot, spiritual prostitute, etc., etc.
i’m finding out that i seem to have built myself a pretty solid wall regarding religion.. some people can just chuck all beliefs into one basket saying that they are all basically garbage,,, and that is ok, no problem i respect that.. but for myself there is a certain part of my personality that needs a spiritual belief not like the witnesses in any way, but something to meditate on, and contemplate.. being a witness taught me how bad it is to actually think of god in any other way besides what the jw’s believe.
and now when i attend any other service, the dark jw side seems to pop out and seriously makes me believe that everything i see/do/say is wrong.

Nic I believe JW believe that Jesus was resurrected as a spirit so why could that not be historically true

When you were fully in, would you lie about how loving your congregation was?
by TTWSYF innot long ago my elder brother got very sick.
he was hospitalized for a few weeks and his jw wife and children were at his side often.
also, his non jw family was also bedside with him, siblings and parents.. his recollection involves asking us "don't you remember all the jws that came visiting me when i was sick?".

Do you remember 1975? I remember 1984.
by The Rebel inif i mention "1984" you will probably think of george orwell and his book " 1984".however i think of "1984" as a year in my life when watford football club reached the f.a cup final.
( the f.a cup is the biggest footballing occasion in english sport, and my club " little watford" were in it) but instead of going to watch the game, i was forced by my dad to miss attending the match and prioritize on theocratic w.t study.. so for me the year 1984 was the year i should have woken up to " the truth about the truth" sadly it took another 30 years of generation and doctrinal change before this boy became " awake" and understood his defining moment and realized he was fooled by the w.t.. anyway 1984 was a long time ago, but today in 2016, i realized 1984 had a " modern day 2016 application" that happened last saturday, when i took my boy to watch my " little " watford play "mighty "manchester united" and we won 3.1. now it's wednesday and my boy and i are still on cloud 9, even orlandos school teacher started monday lessons by saying " well done watford ".
yes little watford outplayed and beat the mighty united.

My defining moment was 1984, and I believe the trick to helping people out a cult is not 1975, or 1914 generation changes but finding in a cult member their individual reason to move on ...mine was 1984 and a football match a cult made me miss.
What was yours?
yes i remember 1975 and 1984. two years that important things happened in my life. I have no interest in football now and little in sport generally.
the year for me was 1967 and witnessing to the boy who sat in front of me in the classroom. I went home at lunchtime as usual and was going to return with my bible to show him some scriptures. When I went home I read the scriptures and was puzzled and looked it up in the Watchtower. I accepted what it said but didn't want to share it with him.
Over 25 years later I read in the Watchtower what I knew in 67 and that was the beginning of leaving.

my dog seemed to just enjoy life. I learnt a lot from her. In the end she had me throwing the ball and chasing after it while she barked.

Why start preaching work in 1876? Something to ask JW's who are still in
by fedup inwe learn from the bible that the characters that preached doomsday messages, such as lot, noah, etc all got to see the result of the message they preached, we studied that the final judgement from god was seen by the preacher as well as the people that heard and ignored the message.
my point is this, it would have been ridiculous for noah to start preaching to people, put the fear of god in all the listeners that the flood is coming, build the ark and then as a result, nothing happens to them.
even if the flood would have happened later, let's say 50 years after noah and all the people that heard him have died from natural causes.

Blondie I was referring to this from the Jehovah's Witnesses In The Divine Purpose (1959) page 37 where it quotes what Russell wrote,
Since 1878 (and never before that ) we have felt at liberty to call God's children out of the nominal churches to a position of freedom and liberty, where they would be free to serve Him fully...
