Has anyone noticed the JW movies are trying to normalise their lifestyle?
by truthseeker inhaving watched the prodigal son returns movie produced by the organization and a recent mini-clip of a brother in london who is shown jogging and doing normal everyday things while wanting to "reach out" it occurred to me that the organization is trying to normalize their bizarre lifestyle and beliefs for the benefit of non-witnesses.. what do i mean by normalization?
they try to make the witnesses look like just another christian denomination who are reasonable while their members live and enjoy normal lives that appear to be within the mainstream.. they do this by not mentioning anything to do with higher education, armageddon or the urgency of the end of the world nor is their discussion or mention of the blood issue.
these are things mentioned often at kingdom halls and in study articles.. watching the prodigal son returns, the family appears to live a normal life, going to meetings and studying.

when we watch those movies, we always make fun of really how unreal the settings are.
in regards to the prodigal son movie, i think they made it look like, the son had everything at home and was financially well off so it wouldnt make sense for him better yet, it was dumb of him, to leave. obviously in the mind of the WT the better option would had been to set spiritual goals and just live of their parents money, since they offered it to him anyway. but what they dont explain is, that probably his parents didnt have spiritual goals, thats how they obtained the house and the money in the first place.
also, just because you have a secular work, in town, doesnt mean that you will start to fornicate. of course the dangers from the WT perspective are there, but so are the dangers of fornication inside the congregation. i know tons of examples where baptised jws did it.
in our congregation we have the pioneers / MS / young elders who work part time and struggle to survive every month. we also have one elder, who just recently became an elder, after he sold his company and finally set aside some time to aux pioneer, until he worked his way up to first become an MS and then an elder. conviently he only aux pioneered until the CO came and he got the appointment.
what i mean is only the minority of the JWs can live a luxurious life and still pioneer! if they depeict the average joe jw who pioneers and struggles every month to meet ends meet in a movie, nobody would want to pioneer anymore!

March Broadcast - Remove the Rafter - Adjust Your attitude
by helpmeout inif you have watched the march broadcast you will understand the topic title.
another propaganda piece intended to subtly blame the victim.
i would like to see them present a clip showing an arrogant self righteous elder interfering in the personal affairs of a family.

okay so i am not sure what happaned but for the past few months, we get invites to other ppls home just to watch the broadcasting. the ones who invite us, are all heavily indoctrinated and I always have to hide my inner feelings and criticism in front of them. which is eating me up haha. so this saturday we are invited to an elders home to watch the march broadcasting. -

I know TTATT for a few years now (first thread was over 14 years ago) but I am still in. Right now I have this hunger for peoples experiences who left the truth. Especially those higher ups have a lot of good stories to tell. I read Crisis of Concience in one day. Also both books Brock Talon were wonderful especially his first book Journey to God's House I can only recommend. Right now I am reading through John Bechtels Blog: http://www.johnbechtelblog.com/john-bechtel/chapter-1-becoming-a-foot-soldier-for-god/
So what I wanted to ask is, what other books can you recommend which are similar to the mentioned above? I really would like to know how bethel life is now, or just ten years ago. Because the above books mentioned bethel life 30 years ago.

How did you feel when they eliminated the Con. Book Study?
by Freeandclear inyears ago when i was "in" i loved the book study.
it was my favorite meeting by far.
mainly because it was a small group.

I had a bitter sweet relationship with the book study.
When I was young, we had the book study on sunday morning. While I didnt care about the book study, I never stayed long to socialize because my dad wanted to go to service asap after it ended. Also good thing was, that it was at our home. So while I didnt mind the book study and some times even enjoyed it, I hated to leave for service.
Later when the bookstudy was during the week and not in our home anymore, I started to miss it. I would make excuses, sometimes even arriving late home. Then I would tell my parents, that they should finally get rid of that, but never really believing that they would and to my surprise they did! But its not that I had something against the book study, but it was one more day that I had to get ready for a "meeting". It would have been even better to get rid of the mid week meeting.

So I am awoken for several years now (never really bought the cool aid) but for family reasons I am still enduring everything. But my wife knows ...
Anyway so yesterday we had this boring meeting and as I was sitting there trying to make time pass faster I looked around me and I thought who else feels the same as me and is completely bored? And then I thought, who else from this congregation is also fully awoken and might be a lurker or even an active member of this message board?
Judging from the talks and their comments, none of our higher ranks are awoken. They are trying to accomplish something - that is more hours in service and try to reach all the ppl in several languages. So when I talk to them, they make me feel like something is wrong with me, for not putting the same hours as they are doing. For not showing the same zeal as they are doing.
There was a brother a couple of years ago, his wife was ill, she would not come to the meetings and he would come alone with this little son. He almost never gave comments, even though from the way he talked after the meeting, he seemed quite knowledgeable. When he came to the meetings, he would sit on the last row, playing games on his smartphone. Then he stopped coming to the meetings altogether and I heard from others that he some "crazy" ideas.
Too bad I never really talked to him, I guess I never wanted to expose myself.
We recently got a former special pioneer couple. They look tired and a little be unhappy. Even though they were special pioneers, I dont get the same vibe from them as the other pioneers in our congregation, so lets see if they might be up to something.
So right now, that is how I am spending my meeting, trying to spot "closeted" apostates and faders ;-)

When Did Higher Education Become Taboo?
by Wild_Thing ini have been reading about the early history of russelites/jws and in the beginning, it seems the organization was formed and headed by quite a few educated people.
lawyers, doctors, businessman.
you could buy voting rights within the organization for $1000, which by today's standard would be somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000, something most of us do not have on hand, unless you are highly educated and/or wealthy.

Uneducated people make for good converts and those are the people that most of the time stay in the religion. Also educated people are unhappy being JWs. So in a way, if you are a JW ignorance is bliss. -

So Long Palmyra NY Hall
by mrquik inah just more evidence of the work "speeding up during the time of the end".
i helped build this hall.
was appointed as an ms & elder there.

just to add to what @sir82 said. there were a couple of congregations which build a hall with their own money and are basicly housing only one congregation. those halls are often in such a proximity, that really, they only suit the one congregation. seeing as it was build by their own funds, it is not big deal, right? Now I heard, that to support the 3 congregations per kingdom hall plan, they might sell off those congregations and make them move to other halls. Unfair right? What if its elderly who scapped their last dime to have a hall nearby so they dont have to travel far?
