Cofty: Even if the deadline is missed, the court will reinstate the appeal if it receives an affidavit from WT lawyers, alleging that the deadline was missed beccause of mistake, inadvertence, or excusable neglect. If the attorney prepares a proper declaration that makes such a claim, the appeal will be reinstated. This is called a "473 motion" (CA Code of Civil Procedure Section 473), and it is routinely granted and very difficult to oppose.
I doubt it will come to that. Attorneys routinely file papers on the last day of a deadline for several reasons, including wanting to provide as little time for their opponents to respond to the papers. I suspect that the delays in filing the brief are due to attorney workload, and have nothing to do with the WTBTS. I also expect that the WTBTS brief will either be filed tomorrow or a stipulated extension of time to file will be filed tomorrow. We'll see . . .

The "mansion" is not that big, by California standards. Today, Beth Sarim is a nice, upper-middle class home. But in the years that Rutherford lived there, it was a "mansion" by the standards of that time period.

How do you help them move on?
Start with arm farts, and then, when you have their attention, lift your left ass cheek and discharge all of the intestinal gas you've stored up. That ought to help them "move on," right out of your office.
You can charge extra for the fart gas.

A double life
by raindrops ini am usually a lurker here.
i was disfellowshipped about 3 years ago.
my relationship with my family has never been the same.

You don't have to live a "double life." You should reject the conditional love of family members as it is devoid of any real value. If family can't love you for who you are, instead of who they expect/demand you to be, their so-called "love" isn't worth having.
I was a born-in in a very devout family. I rebelled in my teenage years and never came back. While the relationship was difficult at first, my parents did not want to miss the opportunity to be with their grandkids, and they fully accepted me as a person who does not share their beliefs.
Standing up for what is right will be tough in the short run, but the problems will eventually go away, and babies/infants are hard to say "no" to. Good luck!

<<<< I would love to hear what the CO and his wife were doing during lunch that made you finally say this to them. >>>>
At that point in my life, I was fully engulfed in a rebellion that was very extreme. I was drinking, doing drugs, and dating "worldly" girls. I had zero interest in a JW future. In fact, I had zero interest in the future at all. Every day was just one big party.
My Dad was a well-respected elder in our area. I was doing things that just aren't ok for an elder's son, and Dad mistakenly believed that a visit from the CO would turn me around. He invited the CO and his wife to visit our home for lunch on a Saturday. That day, I had plans to leave right after the lunch, with some friends to go to the beach. We were going to party at the beach on Saturday evening, and camp there overnight, returning the next day.
During the lunch, the CO made several comments expressing his disapproval of my behavior, including my refusal to attend meetings or go out in service. He was lecturing me and at that time in my life, I had little respect for my parents, and zero respect for him. He eventually turned to my plans to camp with my "worldly" friends on Saturday night, and advised that "worldy" parties of the type I was heading to are known for the pervasiveness of immorality and drug and alcohol usage. I told him that this was exactly what I was seeking, "I sure hope that I'm going to get laid and stoned while I'm there!" This comment was the one that pushed his buttons, and he raised his voice to tell me that if my "immoral" conduct continued, I was going to be disfellowshipped (since I was never baptized, I'm not sure how he intended to carry out the threat). At that point, my patience for him and his wife was exhausted, and I stood up and yelled, "you and your wife, get the fuck out of our house." And that's exactly what they did, they immediately left. After they left, I paid the price with Dad, but I never regretted what I did.

LaidOff Bethelites: Weeping And Gnashing of Teeth
by metatron indon't let any of the watchtower's propaganda deceive you.
i encountered some private conversations among witnesses about the subject and it's ugly.
yes, there is suffering as many of these victims try to live on charity and can't find jobs in the worst economy since the depression.. some of their private observations include shock that you need a college degree for nearly any job and that the watchtower society couldn't have picked a worse time to do this to them .. all the while these complaints are discussed, i try not to show that i am astounded by their bizarre "logic".

It's karma. For years, these bethelites helped preach the "word" of the WTBTS, including the idea that education is to be avoided. Now they will get to experience the life they have encouraged others to live.

When I was 15 years of age, after enduring a very negative lunch with the CO and his wife at my parents' house, I made the following statement to the CO:
"You and your wife, get the f&ck out of our house."
They did what they were told. I got a beating for it but it's one of those moments I'll never forget, or regret.
