it seems like lots of people have big dreams of 'destroying the watchtower'.
it's usually linked to a story of how they were wronged and want some revenge.
do these 'in your face' attempts to convince people that the truth isn't the truth really have an effect?.
<<<< I believe that people can only free themselves and usually only wake up in response to things happening in their own lives or those of their friends and family. -- Simon >>>>
I agree, with a caveat. In the early days of the computer information age, when "on-line"meant using a dial-up modem to contact a bulletin board (BBS) like compuserve, etc., and the internet was not generally available, I found it easier to communicate and instill doubts in others about the Watchtower cult. Information was not easily accessible and any news about the org was big news. I had a couple of "book studies" back then who ultimately achieved freedom from the JWs, and I felt very pleased that I had been able to provide some assistance to them in their quest to learn TTATT.
We have reached a point now where we have the opposite situation: information overload. Folks have become desensitized to information because there is just too much of it out there. Additionally, some well-meaning folks have published anti-Watchtower information that is fraught with false claims and other problems that the Watchtower and its apologists use to discredit those who have left the org. There is nothing novel about the internet any more, and information discovered there does not garner the same enthusiasm it did when the technology was new.
I agree with Simon. nothing I, or anyone else, posts, here, or anywhere else, is going to change anyone's minds about religion. You either need it in your life, or you don't.
A childhood of forced servitude to the WTBTS organization proved to me, without any doubt whatsoever, that I don't need or want religion in my life. But everyone must choose their own path . . .
do you give thanks for every meal or do you thank god once for the whole day of meals???
is thanking god for every meal scriptural or something that came along in early christianity ?
?.
I give thanks at every meal, to the person who prepared it. If I prepared it, I thank myself by opening a good bottle of wine and treating myself to a few glasses.
after some reflections i have come to the decision to disfellowship myself from here, permanently.
many interesting argumentations sometimes, thank you adamah for many clever reflections.
criticizing in a bad manner of members and arrogant "i know better than you"-attitudes is a part of it.
Mr. Fool:
The presence of poop in the ocean is no reason to become a landlubber. This is the real world, not a microcosm of phoniness like that found in a kingdom hall. You're not going to like everyone you run into. Why do you care?
Get what you need out of this site and contribute whatever you can. But if you must go, I wish you the best of luck and happiness in your life. Peace!

when i kick the bucket i am sure "mary" who ssometimes post will let you know.. mouthy grace gough.
Stick around, Grace! Besides, to steal an argument from the JWS, "where else would you go?"
i ask this respectfully, and do so after watching a favorite show of mine's season opener which had a new years storyline.
hollywood tends to make movies and television show episodes centered around holiday themes appear warm and blissful.
while i'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, i can't deny my curiosity about ex-jws that do celebrate.
Bruja,
I agree. SFPW did nothing to deserve the negative responses that were posted.

<<<< Doing calls yesterday, a sister who is a pioneer raised the question about what do worldly people get out of holidays, especially Christmas. None of us in the car group were able to answer as it's all foreign to us. - -SFPW>>>>
It's "foreign" to you and the other dubs because the WTBTS has successfully programmed you to believe that the bogus arguments they make against all holidays are valid and that you're not missing out on anything. They like to focus on any aspect of the holidays that they can characterize in a negative manner; xmas is bad because it's all about spending and greed. Halloween is bad because some kids got razor blades in their candy. Valentines' Day is bad because . . . oh yeah, it's named after "Saint Valentine," and we all know that "saints" are synonymous with "Satanic."
When the day comes when you are finally free from the clever programming of the Watchtower, you will finally comprehend just how much of the good part of life you missed because you were enslaved by a cult. For most people, the holidays are not about any religious meaning. What they are is a great opportunity to get the extended family together for a dinner, etc., to enable relatives who have difficulty finding the time to get together to do so. Because they are holidays, most people get time off work which allows them to travel to relatives houses for the holiday events.
I'm an agnostic, but if there is a "Satan" out there, I'm confident that he is the force behind the WTBTS. Nothing could be more evil than the efforts by the WTBTS to alienate its followers from their non-believing family members.
Good luck to you in your quest to discover the truth about the WTBTS cult. Get out while you can; each minute you remain a witness is another minute of your life spent in support of an evil cult.

Stand for Pure Worship,
The question you should ask yourself is why does the WTBTS ban events that bring families together, like holidays and birthday celebrations, while encourging shunning of disfellowshipped family members? You might also ask why the WTBTS demands so much of your time that the time you have available to spend with your family is severely limited?

"While I'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, I can't deny my curiosity about ex-JWs that do celebrate."
Why would you be "thankful" about never participating in holidays? And who would you thank for your failure to ever participate in holiday celebrations?
hi friends.
i would like to know your opinion on the following:.
situation:.
Option 3: Quit being a JW, and advise wife that you will not permit child to attend meetings or have anything to do with the Jehovah's Witnesses.
As a person who was raised in this cult, I strongly recommend that you immediately terminate your child's exposure to the WTBTS. Every day he's there, is another day of emotional damage being inflicted on him.
As for option 1, if my father had done that, I would hate him for it today. My Dad was a zealous elder who never doubted the "Truth." If he did have doubts, but forced this on his kids anyway, I could never respect him, ever.
