  Pope says Big bang and Evolution are correct !

  " the theories of evolution and the big bang are real and god is not a magician with a magic wand, pope francis has declared.. speaking at the pontifical academy of sciences, the pope made comments which experts said put an end to the pseudo theories of creationism and intelligent design that some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, benedict xvi.. francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator arguing instead that they require it.. when we read about creation in genesis, we run the risk of imagining god was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything.

  but that is not so, francis said.. he added: he created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment.. the big bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.. evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.. the catholic church has long had a reputation for being anti-science most famously when galileo faced the inquisition and was forced to retract his heretic theory that the earth revolved around the sun.. but pope franciss comments were more in keeping with the progressive work of pope pius xii, who opened the door to the idea of evolution and actively welcomed the big bang theory.

  I'm with Kare Wild on this one; creationism and evolution are not mutually exclusive.

  I have always thought that it's rather like saying a builder built a house without mixing up concrete and laying bricks, in short, getting his hands dirty.

  We all have our way of understanding life and the universe and I guess that's mine.

  Nevertheless, I would never insist that others should believe as I do or ever brow-beat them for disagreeing with me.

  I'll leave that to Cofty...

  Evolution and spirits

  as of now iam making an unbiased examination of evolution.

  however one thing keeps me hanging on to the belief of a supreme spirit being; the existence of spirits.

  i have heard countless accounts of people who have experienced frightening encounters with evil forces.

  that was the crackpot theory of so-called pyramidologists.. among the men who promoted this silly idea was the founder of the watchtower publishing corporation, pastor c.t.russell.. he did not originate pyramidology, but he copied the work of the astronomer royal of scotland, professor charles piazzi smyth.

  as well as another fellow named john taylor (the great pyramid (1859) and built a grand bit of humbug theology.

  I have a friend who's an ex Freemason who was kind enough to show me his exclusive members books.

  As you would expect, the name 'Jehovah' is very prominent among Freemasonry, hence the reason it is so precious to the Witness cult because of C.T. Russel's connections with it and his obsession with pyramids.

  If only the greater number of JW's would open their minds and do their homework...

  check out the new jan 2015 study wt, article, they offer themselves willingly.

  they give examples of young and middle age brothers and sisters who are selling their dream homes, uprooting their lives, etc, to move to help w/ building branches, etc, and how they know it's only temporary but not worried about what happens when they send them home.

  they then say will you put jah to the test and see if he won't open the flood gates of blessings for you.

  Life is Too Short:

  Thanks for sharing your experience. It is a real education for someone like me who never really got too involved with the inner workings of it all.

  However, I did know young couples here in the UK who gave their life over to 'serve' wherever they were needed.

  I only hope that they are okay now.

  You are right, I reckon tv will ultimately work against them and on a positive note for all of us, they really are beginning to show their true colours.

  They are quite happy to deny people of a higher education while they set themselves up as tv stars.

  Well, here's to the years ahead then...and on in to them we will go...

  I wouldn't say science is blowing up the bible but it is certainly blowing up the naïve understanding that certain people seem to have of it.

  The bible does not say how old the Earth is or how long humans have been around.

  It leaves that to the cults...

  The whole Cedars thing pretty much did it for me. In the past he has hurled words at me and I him but the whole thread dedicated to him that appeared to go on forever really did make me stop and think about why many of us are so angry (me included). After seeing Cedars video that was kindly posted on this forum I realized that he, despite any quirks, is pretty much the same as the rest of us and did appear to me to be quite genuine and sincere.

  Since then I have taken a long look at myself and tried to make changes. In fact I believe I am making progress. The truth is, since I left the WT I had not become a better person but had become very angry and bitter to the extreme. Even friends on the outside have told me of the change in me since way back then. I still have contact with many Witnesses and there is no doubt that they are much better people than me. At least they are trying to do what they believe in which is more than I could say. I think that we very often feel that we have to disagree with JW's just for the sake of it, as if we are terrified of them being even partially right.

  You know, even Stand For Pure Worship has a voice and I am sure he/she has something of interest to say to all of us. But he/she cannot say one word without being shouted down by everyone. This isn't really open discussion is it?

  We are all people first.

  I know that many of us have a lot to vent and that has become increasingly apparent to me and I guess it is easier to be nasty to a computer screen than to an already hurting face.

  Nevertheless, of late I have been forced to stop and take stock of myself.

  This post is not an invitation to another argument. Rather, it is an expression of my view on things so don't feel that you have to agree with it or disagree with it. I am fully aware that my way of thinking is way out of sync with many people but I'll live with it.

  Many things posted on this forum have been of enormous help to me over the past few years and I am grateful for that.
