I remember this issue. It was my understanding that the society used this arguement to prove that the end is very near. The annointed have to be on earth when the big A hits, and the annointed are getting old, and... well you get the picture. Don't buy any green bananas.

i finally figured out that there is one thing i can thank them for.
you see, because they are so rigid, dogmatic and unmerciful in their teachings, doctrines and practices, when i finally realized they are wrong, it made me begin to examine the alleged holy scriptures authored by religious leaders from the past and to finally see that it's all man-made.
when i believed strongly in bible writings, my view of reality was skewed effectively as a consequence.

the society has put up for sale the buildings at 89 hicks and 67 livingston (aka sliver building).
the market rate value has been estimated at $1.32-1.37 million for hicks and $3.45-3.65 for 67 livingston.
it has also been noted that the society owns 20 residential buildings.
I am not sure where they got those prices from. A two bedroom one bath apartment iin Brooklyn Heights will tyipcally go for $700-750K.
as mentioned in another thread, the watchtower bible & tract society of australia is refusing to give me my personal records, though i believe they are supposed to under the aust privacy act.
they claim to not be under the legislation, which exempts businesses with less than 3 million turnover.
anyway, i purchased their financial report that is lodged with asic to find out what the turnover is ($16million).
I am a CPA and would love to get a copy of the financial statements. If I can get a copy I will provide an analysis of the statements and report on this site..

When I actually cared what went on at the meetings it would drive me crazy that the WT conducter did not understand the "real" reason why the articles are written. They would get bogged down on the first two or three intro paragraphs and because of running short on time skim through the paragraphs that were important (or seemed important for me at the time).

NewYork44M....I am impressed. Thirty-five years ago I needed to use different colour pens to underline different key points. I could've saved hundreds of hours. Wasted time.
What I described is not a new stragegy. I read the mag using the same technique for years even as an active witnessMS/Elder. I still "underlined" the mags, but only for the benefit of those who sat near me. Had to keep up pretenses.

I skim through the mags even to this day. The strategy that I use for the WT is to look at the two study articles. The first study article is usually the set-up article. The second article contains the WT counsel for th R&F. I get a general ideal of the articles and then look at the paragraph about two-thirds into the second article. That paragraph contains the "zinger," or the reason why the articles were written. I then know what the R&F can and can't do.
If I want to get a better understanding of the articles I wait for Blondie's weekly review.
I don't consider the mags spiritual food or poison, just boring and a wasted effort.
