In my last (and final) visit from the elders one of the visitors stated emphatically: "You have to admit they got 1914 right!"

Witnesses cannot refute the real "TRUTH"
by integ inno matter what any pompass ass witness says about the religion being the "truth", they cannot refute the simple fact that nothing they have ever predicted has come true.
that's a pretty poor record for gods' chosen people.
oh sure they can point to lame obvious things such as " critical times getting harder to deal with" (even that is debatable), but no hard facts to point to that show they are right, or have ever been.

Society goes nuts--yet another "special" campaign for September!
by sir82 inin an earlier post here http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/114651/1.ashx i noted the society's "special campaign" for september, an "awake" magazine dedicated to the topic of evolution vs. creation.
there is a "special campaign" to highlight that magazine all month.. got a call from our po last night.
there is going to be yet another "special campaign" in september -- a new "kingdom news" tract.

The Watchtower bible and tract society isn't really about spreading their messege.
Terry, you have made this excellent point before. The message is so wacky that if people understood the message they would run, not walk away.So if the goal is not the message, what is it. Just follow the money. The trail leads to their publishing and real estate empire.
The goal of the campaigns is not to get the message out but to keep the troops busy.

Revelation-Its Grand Climax at Hand!
by XBEHERE injuly km confirms that this is the next book for consideration at bookstudies starting next year.

I think it has been 10 years since this was last studied, April 1996. Think of how many JWs go to the KH that weren't JWs then.
Think of how many people need to get a new copy. All this activity will reduce their excess inventory.
It is inventory control issue, not a spirituality issue.

That will be a difficult study. There is a heck of a lot of stuff that is considered old-light in that book.
But it serves the purpose of getting rid of old inventory before they rewrite the book with all the new light.

I thought false religion (aka Babylon the Great) was destroyed in 1919. I am so confused.

I am so excited. I learned a new word today - cheek; cheeky
Adj. 1. cheeky - offensively bold; "a brash newcomer disputed the age-old rules for admission to the club"; "a nervy thing to say"
brash, nervy

Someone stole my bookbag once.
Did you count placements for all the literature in the bag? Based upon these stories they are all legitimate placements

Talk Prayer
by under_believer insomeone posted something in another thread about how prayer is often used to summarize the content of the meeting.
this is absolutely true and is something that always has really bothered me about witness meetings.
jws often use the opening or closing prayer to "teach" the congregation.

There's one old brother who gives a long pre-amble to the prayer, but he does it in such a way that you're not really sure whether he's actually started the prayer yet or not.
We had this one old brother that would start rambling on in his prayer. A few times he would forget to say "amem." He would go back and sit down while the whole congregation was standing with our heads semi-bowed. We would all then try to figure out of the prayer ended and why he wasn't still on the platform.

In England, one of our blind brothers had a seeing-eye dog
I wonder if we can trace this to a specific time period and location? That is the trouble with urban legends, we never get enough facts to verify. -

Governing Body goes out in service?
by under_believer injust curious--is anybody here knowledgable in how much time the various governing body members spend "sharing in the field ministry" after they are appointed?
specifically, going door to door?
i'm just curious, after happening on the following quote from randy's website: .

I have gone out with Barber. But this was before he became a GB.
Also, over the past year or so I have, on several occasions, seen Schroeder in a wheelchair with his wife and several "handlers" in front of the Towers building in Brooklyn Heights. He had Wt's pinned to his chest. I am sure they counted his 15 minutes of time even though he appeared to be totally incoherent and had no idea what was going on.
Note: These observations occurred prior to his death. I have not seen him since.
