Translation of "stand for truth and righteousness: selling wt magazines for a publishing company, going to five meetings a week, and being willing to die based upon the intrepretations of a bunch of old and dead farts.
i'm just going to start at the beginning.. i was anticipating the memorial all day.
i was nervous but excited, kind of like standing in line for a roller coaster.. ok. so erika gets ready at her house, and i get ready at mine.
i'm wearing a black suit with a light green shirt, and a tie that had hues of green and yellow in it.

Erika is wearing a red strapless dress that comes down barely to her knee. Her hair is up all pretty-like, and she's wearing a gorgeous necklace that some handsome fellow (cough) bought for her.
Damn, it would be worth going to the memorial to see such a beautiful sight.

has anyone ever heard of someone being dfd for celebrating their or their childrens birthday???.
(my first post- took a lot to work up the courage- i'll tell more details later).
Welcome to the board.
I have never heard of a disfellowshipping for celebrating a birthday. There are a lot of "work arounds" that the friends use. When I grew up my mother used to bake a "snowman" cake on our birthday and let us pick out what was on the dinner menu.
I think a lot of people employ various techniques to give their children the needed recognition on their birthdays without upsetting the organizational order.
i just thought of something.

this is my first memorial as a member of jwd.. the only thing i could muster up was a cup of coffee and a doughnut.. i'll be around the real stuff tonight.. warlock .
This is my third missed jw memorial. This is, however, the first that I am amung friends.
i'm posting "memorial" accolades on jwd and beliefnet for the benefit of the jw's who attended the annual reject the king celebration.. how about you?.
I am at my computer eating an Activa Dannon yogurt and posting on JWD. My soon to be exwife is at the memorial.
I will have wine this evening. But only because I opened the bottle last night. There is no religious significance.
I am so happy that I am not going to the memorial. This is the third that I missed.

i barely made it in under the wire, so to speak, but my three younger siblings had to quit (our dad made them--he said they would be better off "pioneering" but in reality he put them to work in a gardening business he started since he had quit his job and maxed his credit cards--waiting for "the end".
I graduated highschool in 1975. There were a few that I was personally aware of that quit school prior to 1975 to pioneer.
The two that come to mind, an elder's daughter and my cousin are no longer in the organization.
While there may not have been the peer pressure to quit school around then, there was a tremendous amount of pressure not to continue your education.
Thankfully I did not listen.
although, after experiencing many disappointments and failed dates, i cannot let go and i cannot dismiss the expectation that god will intervene somehow.
i still hold on, hoping that maybe i will not experience sheol and neither will some of my loved ones.

It has been a long time since I believed in the whole Armageddon - new world thing. I believed with absolute certainty. There were many things about the Armageddon concept, however, that did not make sense. But becuase I believed so deeply, I discounted these questions.
Unfortunatally, treating this life as a prelude to a "real life" some where in the future sucks you life away until there is nothing left. I lost half my life and am trying to get it back.
I a happy not to believe in Armageddon. I feel that I have more respect for life now than I ever did as a believing witness..

They really don't want educated people. Because of the reasons expressed on this thread. Education teaches you how to learn and how to think critically. These qualities are incongruent with god's plan for his true religion.
