Your favorite bits of JW folklore

we all hear stories an experiences that happened to a "friend of a friend," and the witnesses are no exception.

they even have their own urban legends.

here are my favorites, and please post yours as well.. 1. watchtower theologists according to one of the old guys i used to pioneer with, there is a super-scary-secret organization of apostates called "watchtower theology.

I remember this one. (be prepared, it is a tear jerker)

A group of brothers from (pick the country) refused to (pick the item). The guards said that if they did not do (the thing) they would all be shot. The guards instructed the brothers to dig a grave. The brothers, compliantly dug the graves. The guards then ordered our brothers to lay in their graves and prepare do die.

The brothers went to their graves. Just as the guards raised their guns to fire, out of nowhere a fighter plane came flying by and shot everone standing. Our brothers (of course) were saved.

Now if that does not prove that the holy spirit protects god's faithful servants, I don't know what additional proof you need.

I am reading the New York Times right now with my morning coffee.

In regards to books, I will finish "East of Eden" (John Steinbeck) sometime today or tomorrow. Prior to that I read: "To Kill a Mockingbird" (Harper Lee). I decided to read the clasics. I will extend this to include all Steinbeck's books. I recently read Cannery Row. Great writing.

I picked up "The last Templar" (Ray Khoury) and should finish that within the next few days. I enjoyed the "Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons" from Dan Brown.

The NYT had two articles this past week on the Jack Kerouac's book: "On the Road Again." I may go to Amazon.com and get a copy.

Anyone from Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood?

this is the 10th anniversary month for my departure from the misery of being a witness.

just wondering if anyone on this board is from the fort lauderdale or hollywood area in south florida.

i was associated with the las olas cong.

While I did not go to any congregations in ft laud. I recently moved to south florida near Fort Lauderdale. Have not found any active ex-jws to hang with, but have plenty of stories. Are you still in Ft Laud?

If you were the GB, what would you do to prevent to coming demise of JWs?

the current growth of jws no longer exceed the population growth, and in many educated countries it is now stagnant.

http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/statistics.htm in 50 years the whole 1914 thing will simply be an embarrasing irrelevance, so for the religion to even exist in 2057 will take some major doctrinal changes.. decrease is quite common for christian religions, except pentecostals, who are experiencing tremendous growth.

maybe they have jesus' blessing.

Change is not going to come from the governing body. While they see the tide changing, it is slow enough that they can remain comfident that they will die before they are personally affected.

The change, if it is to come, will be from the a much younger group. This explains why the gb legally and organizationally were removed from the decision making of the wt corporations.

A test of the hypnotic effect of the meetings is to go back and really listen. You will be overwhelmed with the outrageous comments. The very same comments that, when you were a follower, were not considered even slightly out of place.

Bethel Tour-long sorry

i'm new as a member but have watched the site for a while.

one of my kids, who lives in another part of the country, came for a summer visit from another state and asked to go on a bethel tour.

she lives with her jw mother and is surrounded by jws and they even baptized her recently.

There is nothing really to see at the Brooklyn offices. The 25 Columbia Hts tour is walking down the halls and looking at pictures. The factory buildings are empty for the most part and there is NOTHING to see. The other buildings are off limits. They have really restricted access over the past few years.

But, Brooklyn Heights is a wonderful place to walk around. Unfortunately, you will be walking around in your meeting clothes. You don't want to make the holy spirit upset by being confortable while on your tour.

The reason the Faithful Slave is right in its efforts to lead the congregation is because the Faithful Slave always refers to the Holy Scriptures when making decisions. Holy Spirit inspires the Word of God! So by extension the Faithful Slave receives direction from God through His Word.

This is an example of circular reseaning. But by extension, he is merely an "associate" that must be squashed by the same fds that he so adamantly defends.

What generation witness are you?

i'm a 4th generation witness.

however, i have jw cousins with grown grandchildren (that makes 6 generations), and two of them are married--all in the "truth.

" if they have kids, they will be 7th generation.
